If someone like Naruto and Sasuke or even guy could keep Madara distracted then Itachi could come out of nowhere and Tosuka Madara. It will all come down to timing and intention and will be a team effort. Madara was the stronger of the 2 in battle power.

Itachi loses to Madara and he loses to Obito. He did it because he thought that the alliance would have a better chance of 1vAlliance (he didn't know that the real Madara was brought back and thought Obito was Madara)

First of all, Itachi didn't have that information (of course he could have put under genjutsu to Naruto to talk and have all the information about the War and the Reanimation Jutsu), he thought Madara was already alive (aka Obito) and if we see the fight against Kabuto, he completely understood how dangerous was the Reanimation Jutsu (the pain that it will cause to those who are alive) Itachi's priorities were Sasuke and the Village: he counted on Naruto to save Sasuke and probably he thought he could serve the Village one more time by releasing the Reanimation Jutsu. Also, remember Itachi commented he could sense Kabuto's chakra thanks to Nagato's help. It's more reasonable to stop the jutsu itself than going sealing by himself, he could save more lifes by stopping the jutsu. Saying Madara VS Itachi is full of crap. Fans can't affect how the story growths, and it has nothing to do with how the story goes

Itachi should in theory lose to Madara with Rinnegan, but he does have the yata mirror and the totska blade which makes things more interesting. Would’ve been a great fight, since we don’t know what prime Itachi is capable of.
