The bacon in Japan *is* bad. It's like if sandwich meat wanted to cosplay as bacon. I don't really care about whether people are ethnically Japanese or not. Eventually, long after my bones are dust, the standards of what "looks Japanese" will be radically different. I feel like if you've lived most of your life here, have absorbed the culture and think of Japan as your only home on this rock, then you're Japanese enough for me. As for myself, I'm a lifer here but I don't want to be "Japanese". I'm lucky enough to not be accosted on the train or as I walk around Nagoya I suppose. I have no desire to be noticed, and most people around me seem able to pick up on that. I do feel bad for friends who have lived here all their lives with a "non-Japanese" face however. They don't have a "home country" to return to, and this isn't their fault.

As a blond , blue eyed person of Nordic descent, I've been to Japan 3 times about 10 years ago. I can testify to Japan's white worship, I was looking at some shrine in Asakusa, and I was literally pulled away by this guy who wanted to take a picture of me, and this couple, a guy in his 40s and his girlfriend in her 20s kept following me around Enoshima insisting they'd show me around, I had to pretend I was going home, get on the train, then ride one stop, got off, went back to shake them off. Also they seemed very eager to engage with me, but when they realized I wasn't American, they quickly lost interest for some reason. Like this one guy literally went out of his way to come up and ask "where u from ? America?" . . "no, Norway" and he said Oh sorry, and walked back
