Watching this breaks my heart so bad. Idk if Jeremy Lin will ever see this comment, but as a little black boy growing up you were my favorite player when I was in highschool. I wanted to be like you, not like Mike or Kobe. You deserved better man. Edit : (since some of you are mentally handicapped) I’m not denying the greatness of MJ or Kobe they are the best of the best and some of my favorite players. I’m simply saying I looked up to J-Lin and respected and admired his journey from the mud to the top. He literally had to fight 10x as hard as everyone else for each shitty little opportunity he got…. Was Linsanity short lived? Yes… do we know what could have been? No… But he 100% deserved the money and partial fame he got because like Kobe Bryant said about Jeremy himself, he likely always had that great talent and potential, it was just never recognized and overlooked. 💯

Both Melo and Harden are very ball dominant. They don't facilitate ball movement or really lead. A few of the many reasons why Melo never got a ring and Harden still doesn't have one. Lin could've had the same success Jamal Murray is having if he played in a system with unselfish players and a good coach.

@@Sup_bro23 Harden takes a high percentage of shots. "Stat" wise sure he is a top 5 sg with most assists. When I actually *watch* Harden to me he'd be better if he created *more* scoring opportunities for his team aka be a better play maker. If you would've said Houston maybe. Not Brooklyn. They got swept because he gave up and KD and Kyrie couldn't adjust from playing iso. CP3 and D'Antoni set that Rockets team up to make great plays.

The answer is the skill difference, but u are so lacking in common sense that u truly believe these 7 footers get “carried by their height.” The taller u are, the bigger ur hands are, the bigger ur feet are and the longer ur arms are are all factors that make playing at 7 foot HARDER than at league average height. He's a smart guy, but maybe if he's used to doing his own thing, it can start conflicting with the system.

Thanks for putting this piece together. It's a must watch. JL's awesome 38-pt. game against the Lakers 2-10-12 occurred on my birthday so there's a fond memory there as a lifelong b-ball fan. But I was hooked the weeks before that when without Melo (who never came close to a 7-game winning streak as the centerpiece of the failing NYK) and A. Stoudemire, when the Knicks went off with Lin leading the way. The racist component in his story is nothing but tragic. Not 'looking the part' hits home for me in my field, so there's another connector. But the main thing on a deep psychological level is the fact that he had to deal as second fiddle esp. with Anthony and Harden, and maybe a bit with Kobe...and they were all at least slightly jealous of Lin for no other reason than his superior humility and intelligence + allegiance to his personal religious ethic.... which doesn't mean much to the profit-centered bling-heavy 'is he brandable?' corporate world, where pure humanity is about #47 on the list of desired traits. Lin has made bank even in his NBA exile, so he's not struggling as far as lifestyle...but I have a feeling we are not finished seeing something amazing from him...the constant personal rejection has created an internal beast that still has something to say and do, and will be released as a positive. I believe in this man and his power of overcoming all the shots to his gut with something magnificent. He deserves apologies from a lot of people.

It’s funny how you mention racism and yet you use codified racist language in this long-winded attempt to revise lin’s true historical impact on the league. “Bling-heavy”? “Superior-intelligence”? We will let that slide, because the facts will easily irradiate your distorted sentiments. Lin’s first season: 10mpg, 2.6ppg, 38%fg, 20%3pt, In more than a quarter of the seasons worth of games played. The warriors do what any sensible organization would do with a young player and send him to the D-league. That’s not racism that is an opportunity. The following season, Lin has a 25-30 game span of greatness that earns him a 3-year 25 million in Houston the following hear. The same 35 game stretch that fans like yourself cling to for dear life. The facts are this: he averaged 14ppg 6assists and almost 4 turnovers a game (3.6). Serviceable, but nothing to ride home with. Opportunity number 2. Lin plays 82 games the first season with Rockets and averages 13ppg, 6asts, and 2.9 TOS Respectively, he ranked in the 23rd percentile in both ppg and asts, but ranked in the top 70th percentile in turnovers. I am not even going to mention his lack of defense because even super fans know how abysmal of a defender Lin was. Clearly his “superior intelligence” didn’t equate to a solid assist-to-turnover ratio, but the rockets gave Lin another opportunity the following season. With injury, terrible decision making along with the rise of James Hardens playmaking ability, Lin saw another significant dip in Ppg, asts, but his turnovers remained around the same at 2.5 per game. Finishing his career in Houston in the bottom percentile for starters in points, assists, efficiency, but finishing high in turnovers, among his peers. I can continue, but the trend remains the same: his scoring output (which was what Lin was known for) just did not merit him getting the minutes that fan boys like yourself though he deserved. He was an unreliable play maker, fickle on defense, and was injury prone. These are all factors that have plagued many players regardless of race, but I understand… when you are a stan you tend to disregard the facts and pull at any straw that is within arm’s reach. Lin has “microwave- ability” so to speak; he can string together a couple of spectacular shots. It is enjoyable to watch, but the truth of the matter is this: Lin was not as good as you thought he was. Sorry buddy.

@@paulturner8550 except for the fact many current and past superstars initially had the same issues in their careers but no one gave a damn. J. Lin wasn't a scrub who just got lucky a few times with good games, he was great on many teams and had a net positive output. Many players are injury prone but they at least get multiple chances and even get to become the center of their team's offense. Klay has been having sub par performance after sub par performance this year and tbh even in the last 3 years, yet no one thinks we should get rid of Klay. While I understand he gets a lot of hate, Westbrook still gets on a team even though every team he gets on does not improve at all (miss me with the cuz he was an MVP), and he has just as bad a assist-turnover rate as Lin and similar defensive . There are countless others (and many who also never get a second chance and I am aware of that), but if you are for the NBA being a fair place where just playing well should be enough to get on the team, you are sadly mistaken. No one thinks Lin was the next Jordan or Kobe, he was a great player that was looked at as expendable. Yes for awhile people praised him more than he should have been and that is understandable; however, he was also completely forgotten when he started playing at a high level too. And now that he is playing well elsewhere and trying to get back into the league, it is fishy that no one has called him up even as a reserve to help with a team's performance - I mean the guy is an nba champion, he could help in some way (funny how he got one when both Harden and Anthony never did). To think that racism wasn't a factor when he was literally being discriminated on the court. If any white person said the n word to a black athlete on the court they would be kicked off the team immediately and a Stop Racism Campaign would start. I cannot corroborate if any player was jealous of Lin but it just seems fishy that this sort of thing where he played second/third fiddle happened on more than one team. I think just like Isaiah Thomas, Lin deserves another chance to play in the NBA again.
@JaysonHoang14 Жыл бұрын
Lin was outcasted in his last year and he deserved another year to prove himself. His last season in the league, he started the season in Atlanta, having missed the last 2 years due to rehab and only had played in 35/164 games. Playing 5 on 5 runs for the first time since his injury in September training camp, he was able to play himself onto valuable minutes and was a great veteran to Tray Young, still a bucket with a bum knee. After trade deadline, Atlanta worked him with to buy him out so he can go to a contender. Man had the Warriors, Raptors and other teams interested in him and picked TOR. Granted he looked washed after, but you can chalk that up to fatigue and a new system mid season. He finished with 74/82 games in his last season in the NBA. It’s told that a major injury’s can take an NBA year and off season in order to get back to normal , although his burst would never come back due to that patella tendon injury. It’s a shame how he never got another shot
