In WW1, Germany needed an ally, as it was surrounded on all sides, and made enemies with France. Kaiser Wilhelm and Czar Nicholas were actually very close, and wrote each other often (they were cousins). Germany joined Austria-Hungary because it needed them as an ally. Russia didn’t necessarily join because of Serbia, but rather because France, who wanted revenge against Germany, funded Russia’s rail system that was used to transport troops to the German border, and urged Russia to declare war on Germany. Basically, WW1 was France’s doing, a petty revenge scheme.

@@drunkenhighlord3198 Northern France was a major battlefield, such that farmers are still killed by leftover munitions from that war. The war broke the legitimacy of European colonial empires, and WWII finished most of them off. Portugal, a neutral in both wars lost their empire mostly in 1975. A thin shell of the British Empire survives fitfully.

That's a bit oversimplified. WWI was the result of deep mistrust among all European countries. Even allies hated each others, they just hoped to secure a few flanks in the next war. A war that everybody knew was coming and everybody wanted, even if nobody expected a conflict of huge proportion. France is not to blame more or less than anybody else: fear of being weaker than your neighbour poured gasoline on the entire continent, a spark was bound to happen. P.s. English is not my first language and i can't be bothered to spell check.

It would be more impressive if information had been given about the scale of things based on population percentages. For example a 10 million now is nothing compared to 10 million in the 1600s when there simply were so many times fewer people. This goes especially for the 30 Years' War, where those 8 million deaths in early 1600s is massive, especially given these all happened in a small area even (HRE/Germany). With many provinces losing 40-60% of its population. It is like China seeing 700 million death these days in comparison.

@Johnny 8 feet Taiwan is defiant to China, they are not their own nations, but rather two competing factions competing over dominance of the Chinese territories(which the Taiwanese government claims to be the land of the former qing dynasty). However, on whether Taiwan is part of China at some point, that would be yes, it was since the Ming dynasty. Another fact for you is the fact that ZhengChenggong(called koxinga by western historians) used Taiwan as a base to resist the Qing. Hence they are not two different countries but rather two differing factions fighting over the same land, similarly to how Israel and Palestine aren’t exactly two differing countries.

Germany definelty felt like they could win easy like their last 2 wars over France before Ww1 that is. Germany had better technology that helped them win and Germany kept innovating their military weapons like their artillery was the longest reaching for awhile and they made the most at first I believe...Technology definitely I think did so a little. The 2 wars before ww1 against France.. Germany had superior rifles and artillery i believe

However, it is good to review all these conflicts, and the mindnumbing amount of human deaths resulting from direct actions taken during them.

I had a dream about going into war. I was with my friends and random ppl sleeping. It was freezing. In the morning we went to battle. Ppl were getting shot left and right. Then I looked over at my best friend and I saw him look at me and he got his head blown off. It looked too real. I don’t know what it looks like but I had a feeling it looked really real. It was so sad I started crying but there was no time since I was getting shot at and I would die if I didn’t pay attention. I was firing at so many people and missed like half of the shots that I fired. I was so mad I wanted to make sure whoever killed him died. Then we went back to base and got rest. There was an attack on the base and they were blowing things up. We all had to grabs out stuff, defend each other, and go. They were too strong. They killed everyone. All the random ppl and all my friends. I was the only one standing. Then I realized I got shot. Right in my stomach. I didn’t stop cuz it didn’t hurt at first just felt burning. Then it got more painful and I screamed with pain. Then I died. I saw the light. Then I woke back up. I came back. The soldiers left and I was lying there. After an hour or so, people came. I was so injured I felt like I could explode. They lifted me up in the big truck and they drove off with two men in the back. I was mixed with so many motions (scared, sad, angry etc.). I was in the hospital and it took me 4 weeks to get out of there. Then when I got home, everyone was there waiting for me and I thought I saw my friends next to them waving at me. Then the dream ended. The dream felt so weird it was crazy I was even crying.
