Well if you listened to his Ted Talk (there are two btw), he’s now doing motivational speaking to help people from depression. He said he was at a low point when everything faded away and wanted to do the best job possible anywhere he went. Also, the reason Hung stood out wasn't that he was particularly bad. Every Idol season features a ton of bad singers. It's that he wasn't a total jerk after being told he sucked. But I guess the irony is that his politeness made him the most memorable of the singers who were bad, and thus someone Asians resent being remembered. And misremembered; it's pretty cruel to say that something's mentally wrong with him based on a barely-remembered clip from over a decade ago. Especially when they're talking about how reality TV distorts. Seen though the filter of reality TV and years of memory fade, Hung is remembered as a mental case, not a polite engineer who leveraged his unexpected celebrity while he could.

American idol was pure evil They mocked those bad singers on purpose but a mediocre singer wouldn’t even be invited back to see the judges The show used local tv and radio personalities to pre judge the contestants. I only found that out because Clay Aiken (from Charlotte Nc and same season as Willian Hung) got shot down in Charlotte by a local radio host , Ramona Holloway,but tried again in Atlanta and went on to be a finalist That whole thing is just evil

This is sad. There's a sweetness to William Hung. Is it necessary to say such terrible things about him? Really? He set the Asian community back 10 years? Nonsense. I'm a white female and to this day I still find the Asian community beautiful in everything they do....hardworking....family....highly intelligent.....honorable....respectful. William Hung is the modern day Florence Foster Jenkins. Yes...initially....even I cringed and laughed at him, but his passion and complete obliviousness as to how terrible his singing actually was yet he continuted on making a record deal..... Thank God for William Hung and people like him. He's the sweetest and I just love him. Imgine if the world was full of people with his kind of passion and positivity. Instead we have negativity and people that put others down to somehow make themselves feel better.
