I’m starting to believe it is mostly the 30+ years fans that get this pick. 40 years for me. I wanted Alt, period. I want to beat the shit out of other teams and quit being soft. Tired of doing the same crap over and over again and getting the same result. Harbaugh is Shottenheimer that knows how to win the big games. Charger fans, trust this, you will look back on this pick and thank god we didn’t pick Nabers. I was ecstatic when I heard Alt.

Thank you sir, I agree. After 50 years (since going to corps school at Balboa Naval Hospital, SD in '73) of going to one SB as 17 pt dogs and not being able to even cover the spread I am finally happy we have an identity. Get ready for big Rock'em Sock'em Football my friend. We will finally control the clock and play defense. A lot of fans are not aware Justin Herbert's record is 25-14 when our defense holds opponents to less than 28 points.

My point exactly. We had great receivers but horrendous o line. Rivers was getting lit up on the regular. Good thing he was tough as nails but we don’t wanna see Herbert on his back like we did with rivers

Us “old” fans know how bad Rivers had it, he had a traffic cone in Clary. McNeil could have been great but his Neck issue caused him to retire. Hell we gave Gaither a huge contract lol. Last time we had a legit nasty o line was with good old Marty in 2004, Oben, Dielman, Hardwick, Goff and Olivea.

Harbaugh and Hortiz went with 'necessary' rather than getting the next flashy/hype picks. They actually won on the best pick in Round 1. He only allowed 1 sack last season so take that info and do whatever you want with it.

There's a common theme in sustained winning in the NFL, get a top 5 coach, defense, QB and Oline and the rest is interchangeable ie Pats, current Chiefs etc. Receivers are a dime a dozen now and RBs shelf lives are so small they aren't prioritized. The name of the game is pressuring your opponent's qb and protecting yours. A great QB will find someone open eventually. This is why Dak looks so much better than he actually is. He's had a great Oline his whole career. And with Herbert quickly accumulating injuries, we need to keep him healthy and not turn him into Luck 2.0. This pick was solid as hell.

@codywirth8190
@codywirth8190 4 ай бұрын
@@jdl619 Still no contest. The average shelf life is 2.57 years for RBs. Not to mention the steep drop-off even great ones have like Zeke. He went from best in the league to average in that span. Whereas lineman will last considerably longer and usually don't suffer the marked dip in quality after a couple years. That is, if they don't receive a major injury.
@peepingtomlinson
@peepingtomlinson 4 ай бұрын
100% Everyone that wanted Nabers are probably the similar types that wanted Simmons over Herbert. When you have an average or below average QB, you need elite playmakers around him. But when you have a great QB, you don't need elite WRs because a great QB can make everyone around him better by being well protected. Ask NE Brady or Mahomes last season. Sure, Jamar Chase is 100 but if Joe Burrow was protected at least 1-2 more seconds, they probably win that SB. This was a great draft and it's so refreshing to not have that Telesco head scratcher draft feel esp in the later rounds.
@jdl619
@jdl619 4 ай бұрын
@@peepingtomlinson that is just 🤭 to say. like free Palestine. You don't give a QB like Justin a couple washed up TEs and washed up RBs and one way overpriced tackle & call that smart or good. This offense is going to suck & this sorry coaching staff will probably try to blame it all Justin. We got the coach that was the king at knowing nothing when it comes to QBs Harbuargh is an idiot at that. Chargers fans especially older ones know all that.

Except for the decade of Means and Tomlinson the Chargers have always been a pass first, pass often franchise. We collect weapons and neglect the offensive line. This is a breath of fresh air. Harbaugh is a run guy, but if you go and look his offenses are usually balanced until he gets a big lead, and then he just runs people over with the run. You look at the top teams that win superbowls, especially ones that win multiple in a short span all have one thing in common, really good offensive lines. Doesn't matter if they are power runners, west coast, deep passing.

Amazing pick! My biggest complaint, of many, about Tom Telesco was that he did not pick OL early. How many times last year were "analysts" saying Justin Herbert could not lead a comeback? There were 3 or 4 game where Justin got sacked. No time to make a play. I was at the Titans game and watched that very thing happen. Also, our RBs had a paltry 1.5 yards before contact. That's despicable!! Build up the O-line first. Everything else can follow. Bolt Up!

I have seen every single Superbowl and even a couple of NFL and AFL Championship games before Superbowl I. 2:10 the Joe Alt pick ALREADY looks better. Just look at how many teams went with Tackle in Round 1. Also, idk if anyone has seen it but the Titans really wanted Joe Alt to be on the board when they picked. We can't take this for granted. We were losing games with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and Herbert was playing hurt these last two years. Hell, there were times where Rivers played hurt. This was when Keenan Allen was tearing it up, and Malcolm Floyd was still on the team. We've been hurting at O-Line ever since Nick Hardwick retired. The old way of doing things wasn't working. Seeing Patrick Mahomes, Alex Smith, and Peyton Manning winning the division every year is getting old. The results don't have to be immediate, but at the very least I HOPE that Jim Harbaugh brings us our first division title in 15 years

Director. I have not agreed with any of your WR talk at 1. If you were paying attention, you HAD to know they would not take a WR with the 5th pick. BUT, I have to say this was one of the best pod casts that you have made, if not one of the best I’ve ever seen. As a Charger fan since 1973, it was only really the Bobby Ross (our ONLY SB appearance) era that we had an O-line that could protect the QB and run the ball. Stan Humphries was no Rivers or Herbert, but look what he was able to do with a running game and time to throw. I too have been angered and frustrated over the last 2 decades at the flat out ignoring the importance of the O-line, watching our star gunslingers pounded week after week. It is disheartening. We were in the process of destroying another HOF caliber QB’s chance to win a Super Bowl (Fouts, Rivers and now Herbert). This was a great and heartfelt message and I applaud you for it!

Realistically, how can we expect to run the ball against Mahomes and expect to win..?? All it take is for one of or rbs to get injured and we’re finished. And who cares how it looks on paper, we needed a generational talent in the WR room to compliment our elite QB. We could have picked up Nabers and a RT in the 2nd round.. this team settled for the “safe” pick.

It’s crazy to me that as charger fans, we have constantly been disappointed and pissed off at the lack of protection that Philip Rivers had for 10 years of his career and the lack of protection for Justin Herbert. Why do you think he has been hurt several times. Then we take a sure to protect our quarterback and everybody’s upset about that fans. Don’t know what they want honestly, add another talented receiver is fine but it’s not a surefire thing. We should know that after drafting last year it’s a lot easier to find a wide receiver in the later rounds second third etc. a tackle Hass to come or else we’re gonna have to develop them

Having solid protection upfront is invaluable you have to build from the trenches, which is something that Tom Telesco did not often do we need to replace our wide receivers, but we were playing a lot of our games without those wide receivers anyway because they were constantly hurt. every position on our offensive line is a B+ or above with the exception of our center that remains to be seen

Man, coach better know wtf hes doing. I know what hes saying about QJ, and he very well might have a better year if we're running the ball more. But yeah man, yikes. Poor malik has to be a giant

As I keep saying, everyone being mad about passing on WR. Iknow we allllllll want Herb to be healthy and play the whole season or would you rather have a top WR that Easton is throwing to in week 12 till end of season like last season cuz by then the WR and the team is nothing so think about it people. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

As content creators and fans, people were so down on picking Joe Alt. Now, 24 hours later it seems opinions have changed. Huh...Don't listen to social media people! Take the time to learn football before rendering an opinion please. Thank you
