Joey Wheeler is such a great character he's good enough to have his own spin-off. He can carry his own series. But the show is named Yu-Gi-Oh after all.

Miruya, it is unfortunate to see that you are one of those Jonouchi fans that hype him up and not tell the true story of his character. Jonouchi is not the strongest character. Jonouchi has the best character growth because he starts from nothing. He's not like Yami Yugi and Kaiba who don't develop because they were made to be the best. Yami Yugi is the Game King and Kaiba is a diversified top games player as shown in the Bruce Ryu chapter when its revealed that he's #1 worldwide in majority of the games played at Domino Arcade. Jonouchi is the strongest character in a fist fight (vs Hirutani and Keith) and has shown his genius like against Bruce Ryu. However, in regards to Magic & Wizards, Jonouchi is the most disappointing/irritating player despite his improvement. 2:38 Yami Yugi literally used the Puzzle's power to save Jonouchi by making him draw the card he needed vs Mai in his first duel at Duelist Kingdom. Yami Yugi gave him a 1 time freebie. 3:18 I already mentioned that Jonouchi got saved in his 1st duel with Mai. Jonouchi spent a week training with Yugi/Yami Yugi (it wasn't exactly shown which one, but Yami Yugi stated Jonouchi owed him one) and went 0 wins 187 Losses. That's 1 example of Jonouchi showing no improvement after training with Yami Yugi/Yugi for an entire week 187 times. If you train with the Game King himself, how are you acting like a noob in your first real duel. After this, he does win on his own, which is great, and even beats Keith. What happens after Duelist Kingdom? In the hospital chapter, he duels and loses multiple times to Yugi because he refused to improve his deck after DK. What happens after they get their Duel Disk? Yugi and Jonouchi spend the rest of the day preparing and going over everything for Battle City. That night, Jonouchi loses to the Ghoul. The Ghoul is the big enemy of the arc. Any other Duelist is weak in comparison. Jonouchi loses that important duel while Yami Yugi beats the Ghoul. That right there is why there are LEVELS in skill between characters. What happens next? Jonouchi faces Roba, a new character. After going through everything with Yugi to prepare, Jonouchi summons Giltia without sacrificing first. A noob move. After beating Roba, the rest of Jonouchi's opponents are hand me downs from Yami Yugi. He faces Haga and Ryota, 2 old characters from DK. Jonouchi beating them showed that he's above the DK skill level. That's it. What happens next? Jonouchi (controlled by Malik) is using his deck with a few LP damaging cards added by Malik so its still Jonouchi's deck. Yugi beats Jonouchi (countered his moves each time), but has to suicide in order to unlock Jonouchi chest to get his key. This shows that Jonouchi is still below Yugi. Now, remember when I said the Ghouls were the big enemy of the arc? Not only is Jonouchi now facing a Ghoul (already lost to them), he's facing Malik's right hand man Rishido. Rishido owns him. Jonouchi only had 1 chance to make a comeback and still got beat. But because of story conflict, Rishido had to lose even though he won. That proved that Jonouchi was out of his league and not on Yami Yugi and Kaiba's level. So there was no way he was beating Malik or Yami Malik. Next, Yami Malik owns him. Had a countered for everything. Jonouchi finally had a chance to comeback by summoning Jinzo then Yami Malik got rid of it with Lava Golem on the next turn. Jonouchi summoned Gilford then attacked and Yami Malik had a set card to save himself. Yami Malik got rid of Gilford on the next turn with Ra (1 of 2 options he had to win) and beat Jonouchi. Expected outcome. If Jonouchi can't beat Yugi, Rishido and Yami Malik, he's not beating Yam Yugi, the Game King, in their duel after Battle City. And we know this because of the requirements of the Battle Ceremony. Plus, the Gospel of Truth did not show a lost to Jonouchi on "Yugi Mutou"'s (Yami Yugi/Yugi) duel record that covered from chapter 10 to the end of BC. Once the Final 8 started, Jonouchi's character development ended. His duels could not finish for the rest of the story. He got saved by story conflict vs Rishido. He lost to Yami Malik via dramatic storytelling rather than Yami Malik dropping his LP to 0. He got saved by darkness covering the entire Memory World when Yami Bakura was going to beat and kill him in their duel. 3:22 Jonouchi didn't have a goal of winning his Red-Eyes back from Yami Yugi. He had the goal of earning Red-Eyes back by becoming a true duelist during Battle City. 4:17 God literally knocked him out and won the game as Yami Malik wanted.

while a lot of what you say is true, the guy is talking about his spirit and willpower, not about his dueling skills that much. And Yami malik wanted to kill him, not knock him out, you can even see Yami malik about to puke afterwards, that's a testament to Joey's resilience and willpower, not an act of mercy from Yami Malik

1:43 - 1:47 , 3:36 That is false. Jonouchi wasn't suppose to defeat Yami Malik because he got owned by Rishido as Takahashi wanted to show readers before forcing Rishido to lose due to story conflict in the Final 4 that cannot have Rishido (fake Malik) face Malik (final boss of the arc) while Yami Yugi and Kaiba face each other. Yami Malik had the game vs Jonouchi, which Takahashi showed the readers. Yami Malik owned Jonouchi and had every counter against him. The turn after Jonouchi summons Gilford, Yami Malik (2400 LP) had 2 options to win by using Resurrection of the Dead: 1. Quick win: Revive Ra, use its effect (LP: 2400 > 1400) to destroy Gilford and defeat Jonouchi by knockout. 2. Slow win: Revive Lava Golem*, destroy Gilford (Jonouchi LP: 1600 > 1400). Jonouchi's hand was dead because of Hellpoemer. He had 1 card (high level monster) in his hand and his next draw was Gearfried. Yami Malik just needed 1 monster with 1400 atk or more to summon to end the game after Jonouchi summons Gearfried in defense. Takahashi chose option 1 for dramatic storytelling. *Any Special Summon restriction you know related to Lava Golem is from the Konami card game that was after the manga chapter. Lava Golem only punishes the opponent, not its original owner. The original Japanese manga effect states: "This card is summoned to your opponent's field by 2 sacrifices on your opponent's field. Deal 700 points of damage to that player each turn."
