Maureen O'Hara was key in John's repentance in his last moments. Maureen was a great friend of his throughout many years. She was a devout Catholic woman. His wives were Hispanic and probably Catholic. Maureen was interviewed and shared her guidance and support so John could see.a priest. God have mercy on his soul and upon all of us. The story I got was that he was in a hospital where a nun was taking care of him. He was very touched by her charity. he said something to the effect that all his life people were interested in him because of his money and yet she was taking care of him from the goodness of her heart, with no self interest involved. The good Sister won him over, and he was baptized Catholic. No doubt his Catholic family and friends had been praying for him a long time.

During the spring and summer of 1979, I was taking Catechism lessons in order to become Catholic. When I heard about The Duke's conversion, I wondered whether it was genuine (due to the timing days before his death); I hoped that he was experiencing the joy and peace in Christ that I was experiencing. After watching this video, I think his conversion was real and that he knew Jesus in his last earthly days.

His body was embalmed in a funeral home directly behind my aunt’s clothing store (Coleman’s of California) in Lauguna Hills. When I was a kid, he smiled and waved at us from his converted mine sweeper yacht in Newport Beach.

Due to being robbed by his business manager, John Wayne ended up in a charity hospice run by Catholic nuns. After a while he began to ask questions about God and the Catholic faith. He did not believe that God could forgive all of his many sins. He then converted after learning that God's Mercy is infinite. Thank you Jesus. I can't wait to see John Wayne in the Kingdom.

The Catholic version developed around a stay in a Catholic hospital where he was admitted, in Newport, perhaps. A nurse named Anne was Catholic and John asked her about life and afterlife in a conversation. He was concerned and deeply regretted his lifestyle. She comforted him by teaching of our Lord's forgiveness, saying she was praying for him now and would continue after his life. This must have fascinated him that she pray for him after death. There were a few more details reported. I forget. But, the report I believe, first surfaced on EWTN TV. It seems he may have called for a priest and converted in the hospital, at some point later in time, after his conversation with Anne. (If memory serves me.)

Yes!! I knew John Wayne became Catholic. He became Catholic through his final wife. She was close friends with her parish priest. She scheduled having Sunday Masses at her home and invited John to be apart of it along with his children and a couple neighbors of theirs. I know a couple of people who knew the Parish Priest. I loved all John Wayne's movies especially ones who starred Maureen O'Hara playing his wife. She was also Catholic encouraging John the Catholic faith direction. Schuller's Daughter would have encouraged John to be Protestant not Catholic. I enjoy all of Facts Verse videos and always look forward to each new one. An interesting video and comment about a truly great guy. I was working at UCLA Hospital at the end of Mr. Wayne's life and had learned some interesting facts from his extended family. Robert Schuller's daughter probably would have encouraged him towards Christ more than a specific denomination. Archbishop Fulton Sheen was a friend of Robert Schuller's and had been a guest preacher at the Chrystal Cathedral. Also one of Mr. Wayne's grandsons went on to become a Catholic priest in southern California. So there was definitely a lot of prayer happening in that family. Thanks for posting!

What my concern is, that he believed that Jesus came to earth, died on the cross for our sins, and three days later was raised from the dead! The Roman Catholic Church didn't start until approximately 300 AD, they just like to think they established it because Jesus Christ said that He would build His Church upon the Rock which was Peter. The Catholic Church has a long history of appropriating every Holy site, every ancient writings they could find, etc., and not letting the common people know what is the real truth of the scriptures. John Wayne had been seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for some time. When he was living in Tucson, Arizona, he decided he wanted to join the Masonic Order. One of my uncles was his mentor and teacher. Fighting lung cancer and having had one of his lungs removed already, do you remember the public service commercials he did to discourage people from smoking. It was fairly dramatic seeing him gasping for air as he spoke. John Wayne had been getting all his cards in a row and getting ready to cash in his cookies, awhile before his conversion to Catholicism.

Just so you know, joining any church whether it be Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist or any other name, will not make a person a Christian, born again or saved. One must genuinely understand the consequences of sin, why Jesus Christ died for our sins, and accept Him as their Savior and Lord by faith. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, The wages of sin is death, (eternal), but all who believe in their hearts that Jesus is Lord, confessing their sins before Him, will be saved. Jesus said, we must be born again. So joining any denomination will not make any person saved. No mention of that in the bible. I grew with John Wayne and truly hope He accepted Jesus in His heart by faith. Our names must be written in the lambs book of life. Thanks for the video.

Yes he did and he had a grandson that is a priest, I met him, he went to my work when he was a seminarian. He told us he helped in his conversion and he was with him at his death bed. Received sacraments and he gave him The most Holy Eucharist, our Lord.

As a convert from Calvinism to Orthodoxy myself, I'm pretty sure he had pretty good reason beyond just female influence. Bad Catholics tend to become protestant. Devout Protestants tend to wind up Catholic. Many of the Churches most prominent theologians are former Protestants.

I loved John Wayne movies and whole heartedly hope he came into faith and salvation along with his beloved children. At the time of his death he was still married to Pilar but also had a mistress. Only the Lord knows for sure at this point and John did not live long enough to speak his testimony. Research was sloppy, knowledge of subject sloppy understanding of Christianity very thin.

If one hasn't accepted Jesus as Savior and asked for forgiveness of sins, baptism means that you just got wet.Baptism is worthless without genuine repentance and asking Jesus to forgive you of your sins.Forget about religion and get Jesus.

I was alittle girl whan l watched him in movies the day we buried my father and mysister and got ready to watch T.V. and it was a John Wayne I'll neverforget the evening we enjoyed the movie and drank ice coldPepsis. and a big bag of Dereto's. Around the time before John death I had a dream In the dream I saw. JOHN WAYNE lying in a hospital bed and he was very ill I didn't kniw why but I felt I had to pray to God for him Strange bcs I Nvr bothered about John Wayne Sometime later I pi ked up a news paper and saw on the front page the very same photo and bed that I saw in the dream It said that Johnutube Wayne was very ill. In hospital I remember praying for him and aski g God t o save his soul Only whe I saw this when I saw this on utube did I hear of John's salvation After all those many many years ago It goes to show that God answers prayer I blv God showed me in that dream to pray for John soul salvation Praises to God

Jesus commissioned his believers to go into the world and preach the good news to every creature. When people read John 3:16 they need to continue to read the rest of the chapter, they'll find out that God has already judged them.

When life it all over we either do nothing and go to Hell or accept Jesus, ask for forgiveness and be with Jesus and God in eternity. It is our choice. There is no turning back. Hell does not have any Exit doors.

I was told that john Wayne broke his friendship with his best friend Ronald Regan when Regan turned Presbyterian in order to marry Nancy. In spite of the fact that john Wayne was himself a Presbyterian he couldn't stand Ronald Regan leaving Catholicism. Weird hein?

I met John Wayne right around the time that he was filming the war wagon with Kirk Douglas how is about 7:00 when I met him he was a great guy I always loved his movies and after I met him I really loved all his movies except for one but I'm not going to mention that one because I love all the rest my favorite is Angel in the bad man
