The Yankees are replenishing their farm system and even got more international money for signing players too. What happened to the Yankees in 1920 will never repeat in the present setting for the Mets. I say this because there are more wiser front offices by other teams than in 1920. Back then there's no player draft and a team with deep pockets can get the best players to sign at will. Now the Mets has to pony up or lose the race in NL against the Dodgers. All the owners in MLB are billionaires whose business acumen long predates their ownership & in theory, all are capable of doing the same thing, but if the team solvency cannot be sustained on its own earning potential, then it's not a profitable investment, the Mets franchise itself would be a drain on his portfolio & thus, he would be a fool to keep the team at all. Being rich doesn't make the team better unless owning the team makes the owner richer. That's one of, if not the stupidest remark I have seen.

Comparing Tatis is beyond laughable🤣😂 Tatis has NOT one season with an OBP of over .400 while Soto has NEVER had an .OBP under .400. Tatis strikes out ~3 times to every walk while Soto has had more walks than K's every season but his first 2. Soto is one of ONLY 6 players in MLB history to reach 200 HR at age 26. Others include the likes of Mickey Mantle. That's the company he is in. And like the greats when it counts most, the postseason, he excels unlike the likes of Judge who slumped again. Acuna is more comparable but still only has 2 seasons with an OBP over .400. Acuna also gets hurt a lot while Soto is one of the least prone to injury in all of MLB. But my dude you should contact the Red Sox & Yankees, tell them you know better than their front offices, data teams, GMs & Owners, as they also offered Soto at least $700 mil. I love what constitutes "generational" in sports, especially baseball, today. He's a lefty in a league where lefty pitching is like finding a pot of gold in your backyard and he won a batting title on a last place team during a 60 game season no one watched. Baseball is more than hitting homeruns, which he did 40 times in one season: his walk season...in Yankee Stadium. He watches his doubles, he can't run, he can't field, and he's still virtually a .280 hitter as a lefty in a right hand dominant league. Let's see how often he surpasses 150 games from next season on with this contract.

The great thing about us fans is that we get to sit back and watch what happens and see a great story unfold with none of the risks involved in this high stakes game (money wise). Yes Ohtani and Judge are arguably better than Soto, but why does it matter that Cohen paid more for Soto? He is worth 20$ Billion. He has no issue paying that much and the price of Ohtani doesnt affect him at all. He said he was going to try and get Soto at any cost I was expecting this video to have valid points but like 70% of the video barely really talked about Soto. Who cares if he overpaid, he has the money to overbid the Yankees and he succeeded in that. And yes he is a poor defense but im sure the mets can work around that. DH him maybe. That's what all athletes should do for themselves and their family. Their opportunities are rare and they should absolutely take advantage of it. It's the talking heads landing big $ contracts to jab about someone else that gets me😂

You are essentially right, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s a bad contract from a purely business standpoint. It’s just that Cohen is running the team as a fan and his pockets are so deep that he just dgaf. I'm a big fan of Juan Soto, but I have to agree that he's being waaaayyyy overpaid. Shohei Ohtani is a better overall player and should have the all-time salary record. This said, Ohtani's $700M contract is also too much money. Players' salaries are definitely getting out of hand, and we the fans have to pay the price with very expensive tickets. That's why I'm boycotting sports and prefer to watch it on TV.

Steve Cohen is worth $21 billion dollars. We are presently in a bull market. Additionally, he wants to build the area around Citi Field, which is a dump. Yes, it's an overpay for the 3rd best player in baseball who is younger than the two best. If this was a mid-market team like Texas, when ARod was their this WOULD be an issue. It's a major market team with the wealthiest owner in MLB. Lastly, like Rich Eisen said so eloquently, he's an overpay for all the teams pursuing him. It's not for the team who signed him.
@mwood10123 күн бұрын
I dispute any claim that Juan Soto was ever the BEST player in MLB. He is without a doubt, ONE of the best HITTERS, but in every other facet of the game he ranks in the middle of the pack & I see no evidence of improvement since the Nats won the WS. He didn't make San Diego a better team, it's debatable whether the Yankees will dropoff in 2025 without him. He was a primary contributor in D.C., but one of many in that lineup. I can easily see the Mets not winning the WS during the term of his contract, and even an appearance in the Fall Classic is no guarantee because as coveted a FA as he was the last 3 years, there simply is no one single player in baseball who, on his own, is good enough to change an entire team's fate. All Steven Cohen accomplished in signing the 26 y.o. outfielder was to win the bidding war for his services, but in so doing, committed to him for a period that will see him turn 41 while still guaranteed one of the highest average salaries in the game. It made sense to sign Shohei Ohtani for 10 years as a 2-way player because not only is he a unicorn with elite status & resume` as a hitter AND a pitcher, but his global appeal is a marketing revenue stream that is sustainable even after his skillset & performance output have peaked & are well in decline. Barring catastrophic injury or tragedy, he stands to attract more financial opportunities for Guggenheim in popularity than it costs to keep him on the roster, including deferred money. So Shohei Ohtani is not just a unicorn as an athlete, but as a business model as well.

Dodgers fan here, but the big brain plan might be to try to win the world series in the next 5 years. We know Soto will hit on that 5th year because he wants that $800M. Mets just allow him to opt out. 5 prime years at less than $250M wouldn't be the worst deal ever.
@joshuapatrick682Күн бұрын
765 million divided by 9-10 million per WAR for a guy who produces 6.2 bWAR a season. So he has to put up 85 bWAR for that to be an okay contract in current terms, but where is the figure going to be in 5-10 years? 12-15 mil per bWAR seems likely IMO which means he has to produce 55-60 WAR over 15 years to be a reasonable investment. I think he is easily capable of that. In terms of what it does to current markets it isn't ideal but in terms of long-term potential I don't think it's the disaster you want to believe from a purely mathematical standpoint. I personally don't believe any sports contract should be more than 200,000,000 period, considering the lessons we learned with Trout, Anthony Rendon and Stephen Strausburg. I think that MLB's players have it way too good for the amount of actual value they produce in terms of ROI. It's kind of sad how inflated things have gotten in the least popular of the "big three" professional sports organizations.

I'm a Met fan, and in my opinion Soto is 1 player that's it just 1 player and 1 player has 1 ab, 1 walk , 1 out. The Mets paid out too much and they needed to resign Pete + another bat. They signed the other bat but haven't resigned Pete. They also need to resign or find 3 top end pitchers. They haven't done that either. So, have they gotten better? I think not!

As a bleed blue and orange METS fan,I can attest that we are very happy with the Soto signing and you’d be hard pressed to find one ☝️ Mets fan that would feel otherwise. Othani is Othani and not to mention 4 years older which in sports is an eternity. Othani was never in the running for us. He wanted to be on the west coast like most Japanese players and that is his right like most Latin players prefer the east coast (with the exception of Mexican players). Not even Steve Cohen could compete with geography 😂(what were we supposed to do,give up on free agency because Othani didn’t want us???). I almost guarantee that if Othani had not been so fixated on the west coast or did not have a preference ,we’d probably have Othani as well as Soto. But that would be unfair. But we don’t need him anyway. Enjoy your Othani and we’ll enjoy our Soto. LET’S GO METS!!!💙🧡🗽.
