An unnecessary hate for Prabhas. He genuinely acted well in Kalki. Even in the first half of the movie, his performance was commendable. It’s just that the comedy sequences weren’t executed as effectively as they could have been, though some of the comedic moments worked quite well-like the punch scene and Rajamouli's dialogue Kalki works big time because it tackles a big theme and doesn’t have any major flaws. The only noticeable issues were that Prabhas’ entry sequence and the scenes with Disha Patani felt a bit stretched. Other than that, the world-building, story, VFX, CGI, emotional depth, action sequences, acting, characters, plot, execution, and even the multiple surprising cameos were all handled exceptionally well.

If you had watched Kalki properly, you would have understood that Prabhas portrayed his character quite well. A normal viewer can clearly see the helplessness in his eyes when he continuously loses to Ashwatthama, as well as his frustration over it. His intense performance in the climax was simply epic. Even during the comedic scenes-for example, when SS Rajamouli arrived-his body language and comic timing were spot on. Can you point to a scene where his acting felt trash?

1 major thing u missed, it's the flow structure of the prabhas entry scene. I observed it when watching it during the 2nd (last) time. Usually, in such scenes, there r high points and low points. The moment or the hype gets more and more before reaching crusendo and getting the "hype moment". But in that scene, we would get, 1 high point like prabhas entry. Then low point like him sleeping. Then high point of him deciding to fight. IMMEDIATELY after that, his boots are not charged. Song is also not helping. This flip flops takes us out of the flow and we become bored and very critical. The build up and pay off needs proper structure.

Bhairava is classic example of what happens when you tell and not show. Take the greatest fighter in the world trope, ppl around keep saying that but we are never shown that. He has a fight sequence which is goofy even for a kids cartoon show…idk who the action choreographer is, but fire him/her twice. Just imagine if bhairava’s entry is by him participating in an underground fight competition, where you could easily establish his legendary fighting skills, show some slick and cool fights..how easy and laid back he is defeating big guys or something like that…just adds a lot of character to him. You could introduce roxy here too, as a fellow fighter. Yes, it might be cliched, but cliches are good when used well…this would’ve established his character traits and also would’ve provided ample fan service….instead we get a random cartoony fight…

Instead of making Bhairava a selfish character they could have made Bahirava a cheeky but kind hearted, they could've easily established Karna's giving quality by making him fighting hard for bounty points to get to complex but gives away his earnings without a thought. For a moment, lets ignore the historical inaccuracies and western philosophical presentation of future in Kalki 2898 AD. The film was NOT good EVEN from what Nag Ashwin was envisioned it to be. Lets look how Nag Ashwin wanted to show the story - Kalki birth story connected with Mahabharata and redemption arcs of Ashwatthama and Karn. Right? Prabhas' character Bhairava is later revealed as Karn which makes no sense at all. In whole first half he was shown as unserious and wierd character jisko bekaar ke comedy scenes aur disha patani ke saath romantic angke diya hua hai. Pehli baat toh kaliyug ke end jisme paap aur adharm apne charam par hoga usme yeh sab daalne ki koi zarurat nahi nahi - and if he is Karn atleast you could have give some hints or draw parallels with Karn's character to bhairava. Only scene i remember which slightly hints you he is Karn (that too after completing the movie) is the interval shot where Prabhas holds that fire wheel like Karn holds the wheel of his chariot. If Bhairava was a more serious and passionate character who is evil and like an anti-hero throughout the first 2 hours of the movie, the last Karn-reveal would hev worked in a far better way. The climax only worked because of Shree Krishna's great elevation for Karn and that epic music.

Hi cinemaan hope you read this it's going to be long Your analysis is perfect and I like it but don't you think that movies like kalki should get their due no matter how it is, it wasn't so bad like raone or bhramhastra . The flaws you talked about are actually inevitable in our indian film industry I have seen enough interviews of prabhas and never a thought came to my mind that this guy is obsessed with his stardom or it has gone it his head I beleive even he must have said do as little as possible worship but you know our indian people and their obsession with stars it is rather their pressure than the actual lead and no matter how many flaws are their in kalki I still appreciate it for what it has done and how many doors it opened for Indian cinemas future. The start of something is necessary no matter how slow it is and I think prabhas deserves credit in that because of him the movie got made in the first place or else it would have been just a dream for nag Ashwin and I think with future installments the star worship will also fade away as the franchise will take over the star presence which I think is happening slowly A big thanks to vyajyanthi movies to give us something like this in the first place they did what they had to and faced every challenge we are lucky to witness such film being made in india and for Indian audience ❤ Extra note- Karna reveal scene was uploaded on Netflix India channel and it was the most viewed clip of kalki on Netflix India with over 4.5million views but after 5 or 6 days it was deleted and I got to know that prabhas insisted them to remove the clip, so he is really a good guy I just hope that his fans let him do whatever he wants to 😊

I’m a native Telugu speaker and didn’t feel Bhirava comedy scenes were cringe, maybe it’s lost in translation? The thing with comedy is, it’s subjective to audiences, if you think this movie comedy is cringe, then you haven’t seen real cringe. Same thing I felt for 3 idiots and some other popular Hindi films, some of the comedy scenes felt cringe, I would chalk that up to “lost in translation”. I know it’s hard work, but some of these big budget films could possibly rewrite the comedy scenes and jokes instead of “translating” that way it has broader appeal and maybe people willing to watch other language versions also, just to see what’s different 😂

I definitely was not a fan of all the fluff and Prabhas fan service but I feel like there were parallels drawn to Prabhas' character and Karna and was not just a random twist trope. Karna like Prabhas' was an orphan adopted by chariot driver and in case of Bhairava a pilot. He is a morally gray character and has been victim to unfortunate circumstances despite his best efforts. A part of him somewhere wants to do the right thing but ends up taking the more easy way out. And in the end just like Karna (him being Kunti's son), we get to know his character is pretty significant to the plot (parents not yet revealed). If they focued more on story building rather than Prabhas fans service these things would probably would have stood out more and the reveal would have felt more natural but I don't think the twist was randomly placed and it was delibrate from the beginning. Also I really liked your video essay keep up the good work!

I enjoyed the Movie on my first watch because of the Mahabharat connections, but on my second watch everything kind of fell flat. Now I feel like Mahabharat references and lore were used as a crutch for story telling. I kind of disagree with that "Chosen One" aspect being revealed at the end also, it might've been right in Wanted, but in Kalki Prabhas being chosen one was expected. More so of Meta reasons, but there were also story beats that try to establish him as the chosen one. Maybe we can say it was his power set as a chosen one that was revealed in the end.

I had some of the same views as well, I told my friend that in a few years, this film is gonna age horribly like the ones with massive budgets . Creators are just making sure they get their money back and not longevity.
