Why Kentucky Football Is TRENDING UP Entering Week 7...

Every SEC team except Texas has one loss, which re-shapes expectations for all teams (and somewhat helps erase the WIldcats' early loss to South Carolina).
So if the Wildcats go 9-3 (with a win over Ole Miss in the bank), could Kentucky have a shot at the Playoff?
But first, Kentucky has a tricky matchup with a Vanderbilt offense that’s tough to defend--though the Commodores haven’t faced a defensive line like Kentucky’s.
Florida’s played better and has a multi-dimensional offense. But Florida’s motivation for the Wildcats could depend on what happens this week with Tennessee.
Auburn is a wild card--there are signs the Tigers are better than the record but the losses are mounting, as is the heat on coach Hugh Freeze.
Tennessee had trouble with Arkansas’s defense. The ‘Cats could present a similar look and even though the game is in Knoxville, Kentucky’s defense is more talented that Arkansas’s with the presence of Deone Walker, Octavious Oxendine, J.J. Weaver, De’Eryk Jackson and Maxwell Hairston.
Texas seems like a game the 'Cats will be hard-pressed to win, but the Longhorns have played an easy schedule so who knows?
Finally, Kentucky has owned the recent series with Louisville and also is outstanding against the run.
Getting to 8-4 or better will be tough, but it’s certainly not unrealistic given how much Kentucky has improved in recent weeks.

8-4 is a good season, and I can see it happening. If we could pull off a Tennessee or Texas win, it’ll be a great season. Would love love love to have that SC game back, but that’s okay. Opportunity to get another big win.

Call me crazy but Kentucky has a decent chance at ending up with 10 regular season wins. The 2 games that are toughest, are actually pretty decent matchups for KY as we just saw the Vols struggle with the mighty Razorbacks. Texas is the one that’s probably the most unwinnable, but it’s at least in a good spot on the schedule, KY gets a bye then Murray St, then @Texas. The best thing about the timing of the scheduling of the Texas game is it comes a week before the Longhorns play A&M for the first time in 13 years. I’m just dreaming obviously… either way. Go Cats

It's not crazy to think that it could happen. But I don't think that it is needed. Different era now. You don't have to win every game and wait for the results of polls to see if you are the mythical national champion. It is like the NFL now: everybody controls their own destiny; it is a marathon, not a sprint; the goal is to simply win enough games to get into the post-season; the post-season is a new season--everybody is 0-0--and anything can happen. People are already complaining that the regular season is meaningless now, kind of like NCAA basketball. They leave out the fact that more teams are in the hunt now than before. In other words, it is about what mathematically keeps you alive, not some nice-sounding number such as 10 wins. 9-3 is probably the minimum for getting into the playoff. Plenty of teams, including Kentucky, are capable of it, so it could all depend on who stays healthy and is the most consistent. A rematch between UK and Ole Miss in the SEC Championship Game is what I would like to see. Nothing would say that this is a new era like having two first-timers in the conference championship game when the elimination of divisions supposedly makes it more difficult. I think Kentucky was too overconfident against SC. They saw the Old Dominion game and bought into it. They still may have lost, but not by 25 points.

People are still talking like Kentucky vs. S. Carolina in Week 2 of a 14-week regular season was something significant. It wasn't. 4th different OC/QB combo in 4 years. The only preparation was 2 quarters of competition against Southern Miss. If you are going to get your one bad game out of the way, that was a good time. A win over S. Carolina followed by a lopsided loss to Georgia would have been much worse. The only matchup I question is Texas. Every other matchup probably favors UK's strengths and style of play. It will be fun to see how it all unfolds.

Please explain the logic behind saying Florida is trending up. Since losing to A&M 33-20 (2 garbage time TDS), they’ve beat Miss St (by far worst SEC team, one of worst P4, and UCF. HA, trending down here pretty soon. No need to give those poor Gator fans false hope

They got a good win over a quality opponent in UCF last week and a resounding road win (granted, at MSU) the week before. They may not be outstanding accomplishments but they do count for something. - Chris
