Killteam has fast become one of my favourite systems to paint projects for. The small model count, the customisation and the variety all add up to make it the most appealing system to work on within Games Workshops different games systems. Today I'm working on a new Necron killteam and getting my groove back.

Kill Team was what brought me back into the hobby, and as a parent with young kids it's amazing to be able to see a mate during the week without needing to cart about a full 2k point army and all the gubbins that goes with it. I have a Really Useful Box that's a one stop shop for two people and includes everything bar the mat to play on.

Kill Team kind of made me paint way more models than I ever could have expected. Having bought the Octarius box set and having never even painted an Ork before, I thought I'd better buy some regular Ork Boyz and get practicing before starting on the Kommandos. After painting up ten Boyz and a Nob, I then tried my hand at some Gretchin, and then some more, and more after that. By the time I came to paint my Kommandos, I'd already painted over forty green-skins, a single Space Marine Seargeant and the ten Veterans from the Octarius set! Since then I've painted yet more Gretchin and could very well end up with a small Ork army at this rate.

Love the look of these. I'm 100% behind focusing on skirmish games. They allow for variety and experimentation and you don't get bored doing the same thing over and over again. I will eventually do an army project but it will happen over time between doing skirmish game teams.

That's what I tend to do, I work on the odd model or squad for my army but I do it in between stuff like kill team and Underworld, so I'm getting that feeling of completing stuff

Eventhough I don’t play/haven’t played Kill Team, the idea of Kill Teams has always sparked my imagination. Painting my neverending green tide of Orks sometimes calls for a different approach. It might just take your advice for 2023 and start the year off with a Kill Team.

totally agree on just picking 1 or 2 elements to focus on when speed painting. I came to that realization a few weeks ago when painting an ork kill team. I spent a lot of time on the skin and it looked great, and I realized I didn't notice a lot of the other elements, so I just painted them up very basic. Great video, keep it up man 👍

Kill team is great, especially if you like experimenting with different factions. I've got six different teams pained up at the moment and am going to do a Corsairs Voidscarred team in the not too distant future. The games are pretty accessible too as you don't need different rulebook for every squad.

I usually do a small section, even if I'm painting an entire platoon I can't really stick with it beyond 8-10 figures so I do that and then switch and paint up something completely different, at the best of times it's a good cycle that has me working on several projects one after another, even if I'm not finishing a project overall I get a nice chunk done without feeling like I never want to paint one of X models again :D

Mixing the pigments from gsw with some varnish and a few drops of Flow imprower will give you the best glow in the dark/flourecent paints

Depends on size of figures, my skirmish fix is with Flintloque about 32mm, my mass army fix is with 6mm... And there is no 'I dipped it my way' involved....

As someone why just got into the warhammer hobby a few months ago, I love the kill teams I've made. The first box I got was the Seraphon Saurus start collecting, which was really fun but then dread set in of "What if I spend 500ish dollars on models alone and end up not liking the game?" Then I discovered Kill Team, got the Octarius starter set(the cheap one), painted them up and played a game with myself and loved it. Now I have 5 kill teams(4 painted), and around 1500pts of a seraphon army(only around 500 painted, with another 300 that are put together). Really glad I got into this hobby, and I'm not sure if I would have continued if not for Kill Team and its low barrier for playing. PS: I love my seraphon army as well so far as well

take a cheeky look at the Elucidian Starstriders, maybe they're something you're into, and I think the box isn't too dismally exponsive. Also there's usually a fair few resellers on ebay offering single models from the Killteam boxes, if you just wanna dip your toe in here or there without committing to a full box

I've just started building expansions to my Fire Team boxed game (2021 Barnes and Noble or Game originally but probably ebay now) It's a simplified Kill team game and comes with Necron warriors and assault intercessors in the box. the good thing is that it also has printed data cards included for other factions. I've done the ork Nobz and that was loads of fun I've also got a Tau squad, a Harlequin Troupe and an astra militarum squad. Each is an easy introduction to the faction and there's no massive financial outlay or commitment to a new army. I might even get into the full kill team as a result.

I think that Kill Team might also be more doable for me, I want to do a Necron kill team. I have a lot of necron models that are collecting dust while only being primed. I am still not sure on how to tackle their colour scheme honestly.

I really like the color scheme that you chose to do on your kill team, I'm going with a gen 1 transformers Devestator look with my necrons and it's gone on pretty well so far I still have around 75 minis to finish, but most of them are warriors so should be pretty quick. Keep up the awesomeness 👏

I have a serious question for a change. I have an airbrush, but use it only for priming and very flat panels. What air pressure do you recommend for detail paiting with it? I really want to give it a try, but freaking out a bit 😂

I don't tend to alter my air pressure much at all tbh, it's more about trigger control. I tend to keep air pressure at around 35psi ish. Sometimes I use the pressure valve on the airbrush itself to nudge it down slightly, probably to around 25-30psi maybe, but that's usually for stuff like OSL. Hope this helps :)

No matter how fun a project, if it takes long enough it eventually becomes a tedious chore. Small projects are more fun, but big ones are more satisfying when completed. Mix them up, I say.
