@@rosselliswilkinson fits so nicely into Shane Black's "trilogy" together with The Nice Guys and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Two different individuals teaming up against the world😅 It also shares quite a few setting similarities with True Romance, but that is more due to Scott than Black/Tarantino scripts. I still talk about the last boy scout. It was a great movie, maybe because I watched it in my formative years. One thing is for certain, I may not have always known Kim Coates's name... But I've always recognized this face. For the longest time anytime anyone needed a smart ass henchman, it seems like they called him. And he's never disappointed me. It got to the point in '90s action movies, that it became a disappointment if he wasn't a part of the production. And I'm certainly glad that he has moved on to bigger and better parts. That run on sons of anarchy was legend, and I really do hope to see him in more.

Kim (as Chet) only gets that one scene in The Last Boy Scout before Bruce's character kills him, but he really nailed the asshole antagonist role. Joe Hallenbeck: Can I have a cigarette? Chet: A cigarette? Yeah sure. [gives him one] Joe Hallenbeck: Got a light? Chet: Yeah, got a light. [pretends to give him a light and punches him instead] Chet: Hey baby I thought you were tough. See Pablo, he's no sweat! Joe Hallenbeck: I seem to have dropped my cigarette. May I have another? Chet: [hesitates] Sure, sure thing buddy. [gives him another cigarette] Joe Hallenbeck: I'm gonna need a light. You touch me again, I'll kill ya.
@RobinDale50
@RobinDale50 2 жыл бұрын
And it's all the little nuances that Kim does that makes that character in just 1 scene. All the pauses, glances, reactions. That look of disbelief followed by how he delivers "Sure thing buddy!" just before that last punch that just sends his performance. 2 minutes of screentime and he's one of the most memorable characters in the movie. Kim Coates has always been vastly underrated.

Reminds me, I once spotted Taylor Negron at the gas station near my house about 15 years ago - and my friends and I ended up talking with him for about 20 minutes at the gas pumps, hahaa - was such a nice, funny dude and super down-to-earth. A buddy of mine randomly said to him at one point, “you’re the bad guy?” To which he responded: “I AM THE BAD GUY!”

Kim Coates is one of those character actors who you recognize no matter what in a movie, but his portrayal of the character is what matters. You know it's Kim, but you also know he is the character as well. And from this interview you come to know he is a pretty down to earth and cool guy. Would love to be sitting at a table with him and William Finctner just listening to the conversation. I'm starting to really like these "Inside of You" interviews that Michael does. His approach is to just sit there and have a conversation, no B.S. or gotcha. Just an hour or so of conversation about work, life, and general shit. Never a dull moment.

Never forget Chet lol - one of the sleaziest henchmen ever committed to celluloid. Kim knocked it out of the park and with so little screentime yet he made the most of it. "Touch me again I kill ya."

Always thought Coates and Vincent Gallo should have done a film where they played brothers. For some reason they always remind me of one another.

Talk about a pairing... Kim Coates being an 80s/90s kid/teen was always on point. And my Poolhall Junkies fix doing the interview?! Holy crap. If you haven't seen Poolhall Junkies, give it a try, Christopher Walken's Lion Speech alone is worth it. Mr. Rosenbaum was smooth and irritating AF in it. PERFECT casting as a pesky younger brother. Good stuff. I was WAY too old for Smallville, so PJ is my reference.

Probably the guy that got fired from the lethal weapon series because I don't think Wayans had ( or has ) a reputation of being hard to work with

@@MightMouse2174 there's a podcast episode on the drinking Bros podcast i think it was a couple of years ago where Clayne Crawford told his side of the story. And actors from the set have come out in support of Clayne Crawford so at least I'm that set, it seems like Wayans was the problem
@MightMouse2174

@@CharleyCarey that's probably true because after he was fired the series went downhill quick !! I'm not saying Wayans is a saint but I'm saying I never heard he was difficult to work with other than on this show
