Some people gets disturbed at the time of comapring the Artists asking who is great. This is not unexpected. What fans of these Artists can do, they are helpless. Because those artists are so great for ever. As a music lover I too get mesmerized with the heart theft performance of Kishore Kumar . Again same thing happens when listen to Rafi Sahab. Only I can say if necessary, when both of them sang duet song, Kishore kumar's voice found dominating over Rafi Sahab's voice. So far versatality is concerned Kishore Kumar will be all time great. If Rafi Sahab is like ocean, Kishore Kumar is the storm as well as depth in that ocean. But they were equally respectful and loving to each other.

All the singers of that era were greats in their own right. But to place one above the others is unfair. All of them had strengths and weaknesses. On top of all it was the Music Directors who were the real creators. Since people used to listen to the singers, they became the fans of singers only. It is true that people tend to term their favourite singers as the best but that is wrong. Because they were incomparable and sometimes the market determined who would get the best compositions of an era which would place them on top.

@@Arupkant I didn't name any particular singer or composer either. So there is no question of forgetting anyone. Having said that it is a fact that Kishore Kumar is remembered more as a singer than composer. He was not a regular composer like Hemant Kumar among the singers of that era. So he cannot be compared with the regular composers like Shankar Jaikishan, S D Burman, Salil Chowdhury, R D Burman etc. And who can forget the contribution of S D Burman in shaping up his singing style and career.

Kishore kumar was a great singer but not the greatest, the greatest singer was mohammed rafi, Kishore could never sing song like of baiju bawra, just romanix sing was his forte, but mohammed rafi sahab was something extraordinary, a truly versatile singer, with voice and according to the artist on the screen, i will give an example, tum bin jahoon kahan was sung by both, if you notice, the song sung by Kishore kumar for bharat bhushan sounds good but doesn't matches the artist in the other hand song sung by mohammed rafi sahab for shashi kapoor matches the artist, if mohammed rafi had sung for bharat bhusan it would have different,as far as playback singing goes all singers of India is dwarf in front of rafi sahab, let not talk about this two sisters, they have to malign rafi sahab because they know he is better singer than these sisters but kishore kumar is not better than these two sisters, so the praise for kishore kumar, mind you my favourite singer is kishore kumar but rafi is on another can't deny.

Because, in Shashi Kapoor' s early stage , his voice was given by Rafi. Rafi was overated playback singer. See Lata' s interview, you will know which singer has better voice modulation. Biased presentation. Nodoubt, Kishore Kumar was one of the good singers but, he was not a complete singer as he had no classical, patriotic, bhajan, quwali , fast songs and high pitch songs to his credit. Furthermore, versatility and melodies in his singing was badly missing.
