@@peachNplum RD sang Yamma Yamma with Mohd Rafi rather than have Kishore Kumar ruin it due to it's high pitch requirement. By the end of 70's Amitabh and Rajesh had also accepted MR as their voice Suraag, Dharam Kanta. Naseeb, Shaan, Dostana, Suhaag. By 1980 MR was back on top again. With movies like Sargam, Hum Kissi Se Kam Nahin, Amar Akhbar Anthony and Laila Majnu he made it quite clear to his contemporaries that there was no worthy apposition.

Rafi sahab ne year wise kitne geet gaaye . Maslan 1970, 1971... 1980 mein kitne geet gaaye. Wikipedia par Rafi sahab ke geeton ki year wise jaankari nahin hai jabki Wikipedia ne Kishore da ke geeton ko year wise bhi diya hai.

R.D. Burman just like his father S.D. Burman tried his utmost best to finish the career of Mohd Rafi and promote Kishore Kumar. All because Kishore just like himself was a Bengali making a name for himself in Bollywood. Unfortunately for him the versatility and ability of Rafi to mould his voice to the actor on screen and sing the most difficult of songs with ease ment that even new comers from Rajesh Khanna to Mithun all lip synchronised to Rafi. To the extent that Rajesh Khanna at the peak of his super stardom would regularly replace R.D. Burman with Laxmikant-Pyarelal in order to retain his stardom which was only possible by the man that gave him such hits as Raaz, Do Raaste and Mehboob Ki Mehndi (Mohd Rafi). Many due to R.D's association with Kishore are under the false illusion that Rafi was finished as a playback singer by the time of his death. Forget that it was Rafi that gave such hit songs from Amitabh's films Amar Akhbar Anthony, Kaala Pathar, Suhaag, Dostana, Ram Balram,Naseeb, Desh Premee and even Mithuns Heeron Ka Chor and Taqdeer Ka Badshah in his final years.

Pancham belonged to this ‘Bengali Camp’ where politics to de-throne Rafi Saheb existed. Unlike his father, RD was a fluke who loved untrained singers like Kishore Kumar, not that Kishore was a bad singer but RD had no musical depth to stand upto Rafi Saheb’s stature ! The Bengali Camp headed by Salil Chowdhry was the mastermind to promote others but miserably failed in front of Rafi Saheb’s calibre and growing success!
