Dirt oval racing (just called dirt racing in the US) is pretty interesting. I’ve only been to one night of dirt racing but it was fun. If you’ve watched any NASCAR and seen guys make huge saves there’s a good chance those guys grew up on dirt tracks.

That style of dirt Modified(known as an "E-Mod" but only regularly referred to as such at tracks that are on the borders of Big Block Modified Territory - AKA, the Northeastern US) is one of the best, and possibly even THE best, balance of cost to performance in ALL of motorsports. Depending on the specifics rules in your area, you can get a competitive car for 20K all-in(and they top out in the 40K range) and good maintenance will keep the same engine and chassis racing competitively without a rebuild a for SEVERAL years. There are HUNDREDS of these things racing on chassis originally built in the 80's that are still winning races today. The only class of cars that might be more numerous on American dirt tracks are sprint cars, and that's only due to a rise in prevalence of restricted-engine variations(Late Models have had the same issue and been saved by the same thing, but they're definitely NOT as numerous as Modifieds). I just wish they still used the 1990s narrow-body designs. The modern widebodies make them too Late Model-like. But they're still a bargain by comparison(late models prices START where Modifieds top out), and put on great shows - there's plenty of videos here on KZbin to take a look at, people! Get on it!

As much as I love racing, I detest films about it. I'm in it for the racing itself, not for the stories around it and eccentric characters. They try to depict 24h of Le Mans for instance, but the magic of the event is that the race lasts 24 hours. You can't convey this sensation through a 2-hour movie no matter what you do.

overall I liked this movie. The part that bugs me is last race with the dad on an in car radio as a spotter. That isn't a thing. Dirt track racing doesn't have spotters.
