My mother told me she did not think she could get the yellow of age out of it. I came home one day and sitting in the bathtub was the wedding dress. In yellow liquid. I went downstairs and asked what she had put it in. Yep! You guessed it! She and my grandmother had been saving urine! I got married in that beautiful WHITE silk gown! I went to an exhibit on Pompeii a few years back. It had a section that talked about barrels found around town that one was 'encourage to relieve themself in' so that the urine could be used for a number of things including tanning hides and keeping those togas nice and white. Can't help but wonder if the colonial colonies had something around the same thing. Though I do know that people would sell their urine during this time too. On another note, I had a school nurse tell me that it's really not that bad that I was peed on by a student because of some weird reason (something about it being actually clean). I went home and took a shower anyway.

There's an episode of Worst Jobs in History in which fulling -- the process of turning raw wool into wool cloth -- is featured. The lanolin was removed from the raw wool by placing it in a vat with about 5 gallons of aged urine and then stomping it like wine grapes. It was stomped gently, so as not to agitate the urine too much, but it didn't take too much or too long to see how effectively aged urine removes the lanolin. Apparently, it works for oily stains as well as others!
@tonyatorres8491 Жыл бұрын

The lengths you go to bring history to life is truly commendable 😊 Milk does tend to work on red wine. If you spill red wine, dab it up, then apply a little milk. She and her siblings all had to wash their clothes similar to the same way you're washing your husband's shirt. But now in America, I have a washing machine, where I can wash all of the dirty clothes I find lying around on the bathroom floor. Mommy talks about how she and her siblings had to walk many miles just to wash their clothes. But, since we live in America now, we can just grab clothes from the bathrooms and bring it down to the basement to wash and dry the clothes.

After they let the stain soak they would then was with soap by dollying the clothes. Then they would rinse with water. They didn't wash laundry once a month but weekly like most people do today. During the Victorian age it was possible to get washing soda and ammonia which ( stale urine is ). Laundry wasn't that different from modern hand washing which I did for 5years while we were saving for a washer and dryer. And I had two babies in cloth diapers to alsowash.
