Tara V fumbled hard!! How do you NOT start both Lauren and Cameron against a good defensive team like Ole Miss?? You use both Brink and Betts, that gives the opponent a lot to think about, do they double team Brink or Betts, all in the while this opens up more space for Haley Jones to operate freely and it also gives Hannah Jump open-looks who's the best 3-point shooter on the team... I just feel Stanford had it all, very good Post players inside and outside shooters, but they fumbled. Can't wait for Brink vs Betts, I love Cameron's game but I get the feeling Lauren will get W.

Lauren Betts's decision to transfer from Stanford was a huge surprise for me. Once that decision was made public I expected her to transfer to a school like ND not UCLA though. Stanford's offense lacks imagination and was too stagnant. This lead to their downfall in the NCAA tournament. Their offense is too dependent on scoring in the paint. Too many of their guards are not encourage to spread the floor by shooting or attempting more 3's. Poor coaching job by head coach Tara VanDerveer. I expect Cameron Brink to continue her great play and development. However, I expect Stanford to struggle big time in the Pak12 and not win the conference. I'm expect UCLA to win the Pak12.

I too was wondering whether Betts was beating Brink in practice, or whether that was conjecture. The other question that comes to mind is whether they can play on the court together. Perhaps this would be impossible because Betts lacks the quickness to cover anyone in the open court, and Brink is too foul-prone to put out there? (Switching sports/coasts, as good as Sanogo and Clingan were last year for the Huskies, they virtually never played together.)

@vikb3131 Жыл бұрын
Hell, Geno ain't coaching for free. He's sticking around for the big paycheck as well. The game is passing BOTH Geno and Tara by. Both will have issues relating to a certain type of athlete in today's culture. Both are legends but Tara is more impressive to me. It's much harder for her to recruit at Stanford than for Geno at UCONN. Finding academically gifted and great ball players is like finding a needle in a haystack. Stanford is one of the best academic institutions in the country. Kids don't go to Stanford just to play ball. So, you're wrong. It is much harder for Tara and clearly shows she's a great coach. She's done more or as much with less of a talent pool to choose from. I seriously doubt Geno would have had similar success if he were coaching at Stanford or if UCONN was one of this country's elite academic universities.
@arthur-ri4zo Жыл бұрын
@@vikb3131 It's obvious that you don't have a clue to what you're talking about. Let me repeat. You don't have a clue to what you're talking about. If you had a chance to attend a top 5 school in the country (Stanford). Or go to UCONN, a school ranked in the 60's. You'd attend Stanford. Athletes go to UCONN because Geno is a far superior coach. Geno gives you the best chance and training to make it to the WNBA. Like I said earlier. Tara has 6 lifetime wins more than Geno. But Tara has coached 6 years longer than Geno. That's equivalent to about 225 games. Geno built UCONN into a power house after his arrival at UCONN. Prior to his being there. UCONN was an unknown agricultural school. They never had a winning season. Didn't even have their own team office and shared the telephone with one of the other teams. Geno's success as a coach helped to transform UCONN from an unknown agricultural school to a world class University specializing in research and AI. UCONN doesn't get anywhere near the amount of research grants that Stanford receive. Stanford on the other hand. Was a well known University with plenty of money. Had all the resources needed to be successful. There wasn't much for Tara to do in building a program. Stanford hadthe resources and Tara did not have to worry about financial issues. The game is slowly passing by Tara. Tara didn't have the sense to play Betts with Brink. Betts lack of minutes is why she left. But the game is definitely not passing Geno. Stanford has just lost one of the top post players in the NCAAW to UCLA. Impact players don't leave UCONN. Some players have left and regretted it. One said so publicly during the beginning of the summer. The ones that have left were malcontents, bench players or unable to prove themselves at a higher level. They were never able to accomplish anything after leaving UCONN. They go to UCONN to learn basketball skills. They go to Stanford for the diploma. Knowing full well that the chances of making it to the WNBA are slim. I hope Cameron Brink has a good back surgeon. She'll be carrying Stanford on her back all year. The only thing holding UCONN back is the injuries. The one thing that has ruined the college game is NIL (Name Image Likeness) College sports are not amateur anymore. The colleges willing to pony up fake monetary payments to athletes are the one's that will win now. The best example is LSU. In one year went from a chump school to national champs. This was because of NIL. But give credit to Mulkey. I place her third behind Geno and Pat as the best coaches all time. Athletes aren't necessarily going to the top schools anymore. If you check ESPN recruiting. Many are now staying within their home state, region or going to where they'll get the best NIL deals. This has been happening in Texas for the last 20 years. Texas athletes tend to stay home versus other states. Time for you to whine about something you might have a speck of knowledge on, it's definitely not in comparing a living legend like Geno with a wannabee like Tara. ** As for that foolish statement you said about Geno sticking around for the big pay check. A couple years back there was a fiscal crisis in Connecticutt. Geno publicly said he would not take a paycheck if there was a shortage of school funds. Stanford is a private school. They can charge what they want. I doubt if Tara would work for free. Stanford will never face a situation of not being able to pay their coaches. UCONN is a state school having protocols to follow. Meanwhile, look at the Stanford University Endowment Fund. A whopping $38 BILLION as of 2021. UCONN has an endowment of $ 602 MILLION as of 2021. 🏀

It's the age of athlete entitlement, I'm sorry to say. The players get their feelings hurt easily and transfer these days for all sorts of silly reasons. As Michigan State men's coach Tom Izzo said last year, a player has one bad day now and decides to transfer. Of course, now, a lot of players transfer because of NIL money--and it's very possible that UCLA waved a hefty NIL deal in front of Betts---more than Stanford was/is willing to pay--and that's why she left. I think that's very possible. I'm speculating, but when she says she didn't get enough "support" at Stanford, maybe she's referring to financial support. I certainly think there are limits to how seriously Stanford wants to dive into the seedy waters of NIL deals--and it most certainly is seedy. As for the issue of playing time: Butts says that wasn't an issue and we should believe her. Still, it's unusual for a top prospect center to sign with a school that has the sport's best center (or one of the best) and she has two years left to play. That could certainly create a playing-time situation. Hope it works out well for everyone.
