Very helpful; thank you. At our house, I am in charge of all of the houseplants and my husband is in charge of outdoor landscaping. We've recently put a bunch of planters on our back deck (which gets a nice amount of sun/East facing) and he is having trouble with the lavender. I am going to try your tips the next time he brings one home. I baby my plants more than he does, so sometimes his die but he doesn't find out why. Thanks for the tips!

I heard the owner of a plant nursery say that lavender plants in pots don't need to be completely dried out, and this is because while in nature the plant can send the roots out to get water , in a pot, it's different. If there is no moisture in the pot, the lavender is going to be stressed. Another said that lavender does not like humidity in the air. it's hard to know who to listen to anymore. Everyone has different answers.

Hey, thanks for your comment. Normally with lavender, you need to plant more cuttings than you want/plan to have, as not all will root. With the time, it'll get better, when you feel what exactly they need more in your specific climate. ☘️ Wish you good luck - lots of it!🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

However a very small part of one of the plants has turned from a lovely green to a grey/brown dried twiggy stalk. I am assuming the root of this part of the plant has died. This is our first year growing lavender in our raised beds. I purchased 5" tall plants called Edelweiss White Lavender and they're not doing well. I made raised rows, added base layer of gravel, mixed 2/3 cotton burr compost and 1/3 sand. The other genetic Phenomenal is growing spikes already and the White Edelweiss looks slightly grey and stunted in growth. We have received lots of rain in the last few weeks, but I have not watered the plants. My english lavender is doing well in a pot and already has purple spikes. It was been 4 weeks and no spikes emerging for the white. We are in Zone 6b in Southwest Missouri. Please help!
@AnnasViolets
@AnnasViolets 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jared, your lavender may suffer from transplant shock+overwatering due to rain. Unfortunately, in this case there is not much you can do. The best scenario will be, if the weather gets really warm, so that the soil gets dry faster. This way the plants will not get rotten. The rain is always a problem with lavenders, if they are just planted and not established yet. Another option is to take the plants out, plant them in fresh and not so wet soil (maybe even in pots) and plant them back in the raised beds, when the weather is stable warm without rains. But this is a lot of work and double stress for the plants. Hope they will recover. 🌸

Hi Anna, thank you for your video! I purchased a lavender topiary plant. It was doing well for 3 days and later started to wilt. I took it outside for a while to get some sunlight and was sure to bring it back in because it has been rainy some nights. It still looks wilted. Leaves are green though. I am trying hard to revive my plant. Do you advise cutting some of the bloomed flowers?
@AnnasViolets
@AnnasViolets 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Maria, if the flowers are done blooming, you can cut them. It seems it had a shock from changing the environment. If it's not overwatered, it should recover in a couple of days. You can also check for aphids. As soon as I bring mine outside, there are tons of aphids on it, and they can suck the juice out of your plant. I treat the plants with neem oil before bringing outside.

OK, so I got two lavender at the grocery store. They were beautiful there. I brought them home and set them outside near where I water a bit more but because they were heavily watered at the store, I did not water them. The temperatures here got very hot (105 F 40C) and they started looking very bad within a couple of days, so decided to plant them, which I did after the sun went down. When I removed them from their pots (they were double potted at the store, both plastic), the roots were super warm and wet, even though I had not watered them. I put them in the ground, I have good drainage, kind of rocky soil with some clay which I mixed in a little amendment, but not a lot and let them sit overnight before watering. I did water them early the next morning before it got hot, and since them have just wet the foliage a little in the early morning and evening once it cools down. They really look so bad, I'm wondering if they will come back, or should I just cut my losses and try again when it's not so hot? I live in CA where we have a very mild climate, usually, but we're going through a serious heat wave now.
@AnnasViolets
@AnnasViolets 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Gail. I would say wait with these ones, maybe they have shock from being transported and transplanted. Maybe they'll recover. Clay will retain water for a long time actually, which is not good for lavenders. If these die, maybe it's a good idea to wait and buy the other plants after the heat wave. And in general bringing them home, give them a couple of days to get used to your climate/area and only then transplant them. As for watering, usually I water mine, when the soil is completely dry. Hope this helps :)

I'm not sure if French lavender is more sensitive to repotting. It may be that the roots were a bit damaged or maybe it acclimates to your conditions not so well. Hi, thanks a lot for watching my videos :) If the soil is damp, it's better to wait. If your lavender doesn't have enough direct sunlight, the soil may get dry slow and there can be a risk of root rot. Also, lack of direct sunlight may cause leggy growth and your lavender will not bloom. Is it possible to move it to a sunnier place? As for the soil, you don't need to cover the whole stem, just the base, like they are normally planted is enough

Idk what is happening with my plant it was doing great after I repotted it it bloomed beautiful flowers and then after weeks the flowers started dying and the leaves have been turning and it is very hot here IN USA GA but I'm not sure if its just the next cycle of life or what I've had it for about a year now or more so this is my first successful season with flowers since I bought it last year.

If the leaves are turning, and it's very hot, it seems that the air humidity is very low for it. Could you maybe spray it often or have a humidifier next to it?

Hi Jessy, underwatering is absolutely possible too. The point is to let the soil get fully dry before next watering. So, don't keep it dry for a week, but also don't keep it always slightly moist. As soon as the soil is completely dry for 1-2 days, then water it and wait again. Hope this helps 💜

@@AnnasViolets I've heard I was supposed to keep the soil moist until the plant was at least a year old and then it becomes drought tolerant so I'm confused.

Hi Anna, great video. I bought 5 pots of lavender from a seller and just as you said, one by one they started drooping 2 days after taking them home (so sad..) On the first day I guess I over watered them by accident, but have since stop watering and it's been a week now but they are still drooping. I'm not sure if they are dying or would they eventually revive again on their own? The leaves are still green (no signs of brown or yellow). Can I do anything to help them revive? Should I put them in the ground? They are still in their pots. Thank you so much!
@AnnasViolets
@AnnasViolets 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Hung, as it's almost October now, it really depends on your climate if you should out them in the ground or not. If it's already cold, they may not survive. In the pots, make sure the soil gets dry quick. Maybe some paper towels can help. You can put them at the bottom and on the surface of the soil so that they absorb moisture

Hi Anna thanks for sharing how to care for lavenders. I just bought my second lavender 2 days ago and the first one like abt a week ago. My concern is that when the sun gets too hot like at noon time where they get direct hot sun they starts to wilt I get so tempted to water them and after i water them theyre back alive again but my problem is that this happens everyday and the soil hasnt dried yet and still moist and when the hot sun comes shining thru them again they get wilted I'm afraid I might be harming them watering them everytime they get wilted.
@AnnasViolets
@AnnasViolets 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, watering seems to be too much for them. Maybe you can change their place and put them in a semi-shade. Observe how they will grow there, and if the new growth is leggy, then move to a brighter place?

When you buy lavender or any plant look closely. 3 first year cuttings twisted together look like a small Bush. As they grow they constrict each other so they die. The slightly better version is where the plant multiple one year plants in one pot to make it look better, at least then you can separate them.

I given up with lavender bought 17 different plants to date and basically the 70% of them died randomly and I dont have much hope for the rest! some died after a down pour of rain out side, some died inside next to the window, some died outside due to the heat wave, no matter if it be French or English lavender, pug plant or established plant, kept in doors or outdoors, water, pruned, cared for- in my hands the finally result will always be death for lavender 😭

Hey Mariette, I'm so sorry to read this. I believe it's not your fault. Maybe the climate in your area is not very much suitable for lavenders. If it rains a lot and they stay wet for a long time, they may rot. What can you do? Maybe grow one in a pot and move inside/outside, under the sun/out of the rain? It's a lot of work, but maybe it will help. I hope that N18 will be a lucky one! ☘️☘️☘️ fingers crossed
