I'm 22 and I feel like I've wasted so much time not knowing what career I want to pursue. I've had interest in fields like cyber security but deep down I feel more ambitious to learn to code. Same here. Learning coding as I know my field Content work (writing, marketing) is going to be disrupted by ChatGPT. I think it's good to learn coding at any age if some work will be remote. There won't be in-office age-discrimination situations to deal with. My programmer-father works remotely.

@@denniszenanywhere ChatGTP absolutely will. I've been using it to help me with MongoDB aggregate queries (cuz I'm really bad at those) and it has cut my time down in half, and I will, on a fly, have it also write articles for me as well, and I used to write some of those for awhile. I think writers of simple "How To" or "Here's what X does" article content, and even digital image artists, are going to be the first to get replaced. Personally, if I were doing those things for a living, I'd start searching for a new career.

Are you OK with starting at a screen/code for 10+ hours a day? Are you comfortable with the fact that you'll have to endlessly learn/try new things while doing this career (new languages, frameworks, methodologies, paradigms, etc..)? These are the questions I ask people when they tell me they're thinking about coding. If you can't say "yes" to those questions then this may not be the career for you.

I wonder how did you reach the End of "Javascript Algorithms" on freecodecamp ? because, first, it is a very long course. and second, you are learning web development, the javascript course there is not about web development but about data-structures and algorithms. unless you already know javascript from somewhere else that is pretty impossible to finish.

@@zohaib0335 Never say never bro, I agree that they're very hard, 35% of the questions I had to check the hints or at worst the solutions. It's all good, it has made me a better developer in my opinion as even at work if you're finding things difficult you're to reach out to coworkers or stackoverflow. I'll be starting the frontend section today and I'm glad I took the JavaScript algorithms to strengthen logical thinking. It's not overly important yeah but I wanted to test myself and I'm glad I finally got the certificate. The last cash register project I had to check for solutions elsewhere as I was stuck.

I felt like I was struggling to really learn programming and was scared to build by myself, but once I started everything truly started to click. I can now build fullstack apps on/off the blockchain and will start freelancing/applying for jobs next month. Good luck!

I've been at it for four months with just HTML and CSS. I know that sounds a bit long for just those two languages, but that's because I haven't been entirely consistent. It's hard to be consistent when I'm losing sleep and exercise, which may or may not have to do with sitting at the computer for 6 or 7 hours at a time. To make decent progress, I feel I have to go at it at least that long in one sitting.

@@sl5946 well, you could try a less trodden path like cybersecurity. Not sure how feasible that is without college, but it just seems most people are pursuing web development. I wonder why UG students mostly go for Web Dev. I think it is because of immediate result. I am surprised how much Web Devs are from my University and they do get internships very easily. Companies prioritize customizers over those who use drag and drop. I know a person who just understood few basic things and copy pasted code to replicate Spotify to show as a project and got an internship! By just copying!! He did it even with JavaScript. Just skimmed through. It is like a DIY stuff. I have done this before. Made good handsome cool html web pages with css, JS but web dev did never sparked an interest in me because everyone is doing it. So I assumed that Web Dev is the lowest in demand which is obviously wrong. Copying code is morally wrong but helps in DIY and hence project completion. I wonder how they get internships and what stupid or intelligent questions are asked in interview? Currently I am almost mastering Java. 2 months shall be enough to reach at a good point. Spring, etc. is a long way to go. Alongside I am learning Android Dev. Should I drop learning Android Dev and go with Web Dev? Well Web Dev is easy. I have seen my friends doing it and climbing heights. One even got into startup( definitely coding is not the only way to go 🤨). One wrong thing that I have been doing is jumping over different languages and being bored with one language was very often. DAMN it pains. Some sleepless nights man. I wasted those precious time.

Ah, finally a critical point of view that is sane! 7 years ago, something like 30% of my first-year peers in college did drop out to take full-stack courses. These courses and promises of lucrative positions were everywhere, just like crypto investment today. That hype led me to believe that I was insane, because I continued my degree even when it got to the point where I couldn't afford gym membership. Meanwhile, people who completed 6 months full-stack course were indeed getting their sofware development positions fast, especially at newly founded startups. 7 years later they are still working on junior-level projects, have shallow technological understanding and their salary is mediocre compared to an average salary of a software engineer at a big tech company. The only people who are outperforming this (without degree) are those that never completed a single course, believe it or not. They simply started to code at age 12 or 15 and read everything that is available on the Internet (basically acquiring the knowledge worth of a couple of university degrees). P.S. I hope I don't come as critizing Mr. Stefan's content. I believe that knowledge he shares combined with a couple of years of practice and grinding do substitute most of the stuff that degree has to offer in terms of coding skill. My reply was intended towards the hype that existed around full-stack courses, just like a hype that exists today around crypto. People who built their dreams on a hype, ended up with less than average return-on-investment.

Not sure what you mean? Success paths and lives are formed within a few years. So you have plenty of time at 40, 50 and perhaps the early part of 60.

I'm waiting you say "all my course gonna be for free because I don't need the money" haha sometimes you talk really interesting things even for me with 20 years programming, but sometimes I also know that you need to sale the courses and mentoring 😅 we called it vende humo 🤣

LOL! I discovered that if I don't mention it, many people are not aware. Look at my back catalogue of about 2000 videos ... I may have mentioned my courses/mentoring program 5% of the time. I should mention them 100% of the time ... as long as I don't make my entire videos commercials with no content.

@@StefanMischook and I agree you sell your courses, that's legit, but sell to rockies the promise land of becoming rich through programming. I mean, not everyone get there, live a comfortable life, of course, early retirement really few. I got lucky but I also see people that studied and worked with me in the past 20 years and not all of them got the opportunities and some of then till today have to work really hard for that good salary, that is not enough to retire or being consider rich 🤷🏽

@@frankom2862 I don't think I've ever said you will likely get rich programming - although clearly some do. I say you can become financially independent. That means you are not desperate for a pay check, and you are on a fast track to retirement. I map it out in a video I did a year ago about being 50 and broke. It isn't a pie in the sky strategy ... it is very doable. In a nutshell: 1. Most people improve their incomes 50%-100% becoming programmers. 2. If you save most of the extra income, rather than increase your lifestyle, you can save considerable money every year. 3. You invest that money religiously into index funds. Within a relative short period of time (2-3 years,) you can have much more saved than most. With the trajectory in place, you will build momentum, and see your personal wealth accelerate. With just $100k saved up, where on average you can expect about 8-10% returns per year, that $100k begins to accelerate. If you are disciplined, and keep saving and investing like you're on a mission, it will quickly get to $200k and so on ...

@@StefanMischook Wasn't meaning to be negative specifically about your content, just something I've noticed in the coding YT community. I understand the things you're talking about are certainly going to overlap, then lead into alternate explanations and different answers. Keep up the good work :)

I wouldn't be. Ai will only replace coders AFTER just about every other thinking profession is replaced by Ai. By that time, society will make the required adjustments.
