Despite everything said in this video, I think this is extremely simple: The one difference is that he's actually TRYING to shoot the 3 now. He's ACTUALLY LOOKING for it instead of shying away from it, and whenever he does that, he makes them. That has been the case throughout his entire career, that when he takes the shot that he has he drains them more often than not. You could see it even in the Finals last year. That confidence makes the biggest difference from what I can see and feel watching the games.
@ballislife99248 жыл бұрын
OBLIQUE I agree on that. I am a driver myself and im really fast and relatively strong. But im a very streaky shooter. Most defenders give me the three and whem im not really confident taking them, I usually brick them. On the other hand, when im confident I shoot so much better and I think it's the same for LeBron here. Confidence is really the key (assuming you already have the mechanics)
@christian64558 жыл бұрын
OBLIQUE Before Game 4 in the finals you can tell he was scared to take the Shots reason why everyone kill him for that Game. Green piss him off and Confidence Went at a All time High. game 5 he didn't give a Fuck how many time he shot it that night or his Stat when Kyrie saw that he also have less to worry about and had the game he had.

LeBron has always struggled shooting with his feet planted no matter how far or close he is from the rim. His shooting rhythm is the exact same whether it be 10ft from the basket or 35ft which is why if you go watch his FTs and jump shots, they're identical minus the actual jump. He could try a new FT technique but that can stuff over your rhythm. Expect to see him around 75% next season cause he'll definitely work on it during the off season but you can't change it up midway through the season

Trying to figure out why LeBron has a decent technique for shooting his jumper but a not so decent technique for his free throws. He shoots his jump shot with his shooting foot forward making it more possible to get his hip aligned with the rim and therefore more easily dictate a straight shot. On the other hand, he shoots free throws with both toes squared with the goal which forces him to shoot with a more bowed shot. It's almost impossible to have a straight follow through like that. He literally has two completely different shots. I also think that he is literally flat footed on his free throws and isn't light on his toes. It's kinda hard shooting free throws flat footed like that. It's hard to shoot any shot flat footed.

I guess its because of the Warriors. One could say that they revolutionized the 3pt game and made it more necessary to shoot 3s than ever before... meanwhile Bron is trying to put that into consistency with his all around playing form.

@danielgalea8 жыл бұрын
I'd disagree tnat he makes harder 3s than any other small forwards. Durant, George, Leonard and Melo are more feared shooters..Lebron is a feared driver far more. So while he does make some very difficult ones...the iso 3s are often with the defender not pressing up and playing him for the drive before a late contest.
@danielgalea8 жыл бұрын
also while there are some differences in technique, I think Lebron will always go through cold spells. he shot the 3 very well in miami, but at times the Spurs dared him to shoot, even from inside the line..and the vast majority of the time it worked. and I think if any team out east (or gsw in the finals) had a defender who could challange him physically like Leonard can, plus an intelligent non fouling big in Duncan waiting in the paint..they would also prove that strategy effective.
@danielgalea8 жыл бұрын
What evidence? 10 clips of him making difficult 3s? I can show you 10 clips of him hitting barely contested ones.
@danielgalea8 жыл бұрын
Did you see the numbers? Because I don't think your interpreting them correctly
@danielgalea8 жыл бұрын
Yea...and why? Do you think it's because he is a better shooter than Curry? No..it's because when he is iso'ing...defenders are always preparing themselves to stop him driving, especially when he is already dribbling.. so they are gonna let him dribble into 3's with late contests. Guys guarding Curry in iso and off the dribble are gonna crowd him and try and force him to drive it. So Curry's contested 3s are a whole lot harder. These are the things that your numbers don't show you.
@danielgalea8 жыл бұрын
No its based on actually watching a game and knowing what I'm looking at...instead of relying solely on numbers... No its not irrelevant at all..becausen what will happen in the playoffs? It's very possible my theory is correct and Lebron becomes an inconsistent shooter again. If you read my original post..all i said basically was that I disagree with the original statement "lebron takes/makes more difficult 3s than other small forwards" He takes and makes more off the dribble 3s...but your "logic" is connecting off the dribble 3 directly to degree of difficulty of the 3 and that's what is wrong with the majority of people relying solely of numbers for their basketball "knowledge"

I'll tell you why, he's shooting with confidence. That's what it comes down too. LeBron has tweaked and made subtle changes every year to his shot. When it stops falling he loses confidence in it and is more stiff and hesitant to shoot it. This year, he's shooting with confidence just how he was in Miami. It's 90% mental for LeBron with his shot.

coach, I really like your videos and the way u break things down into real details. but just from the clips u chose, to me the biggest difference in my eyes seems to be he's changing from hopping into a three to a 1,2 shooting motion. Lebron's made 70% of his 3s in February and twice he's made 3 straight from the same spot on the left side. In fact, it's almost a mirror image of Kyrie's favorite spot on the right side, as Steph Curry and Bradley Beal know.

if LeBron shot 80% from the ft line for his career, he would've been no.3 all time scoring right now

You can definitely see his mechanics have changed and look very smooth. I used to think he had one of the ugliest jumpers, here it actually looks pretty good. You know what they say, you look good you play good.

Lebron being able to shoot now = game over #unstoppable. Now if he could just make his free throws consistently

He is shooting three with that kind of weird awkward mechanics and still at 39%. God is fair after all. If he got better follow through like Kobe's shooting form, he will be extremely difficult to guard at perimeter. He will definitely need to keep improving his jump shot in the coming years tho his mid range is not that bad.
