So true. I am just curious what you mean by this comment, and am genuinely interested in your opinion, this is by no means criticism.

At 58, I've lived this without ever really meaning to. At school I was always the weird misfit kid, but I think I was genuinely misfit enough to understand that trying to fit in wouldn't work for me - I could either waste my time being a poorly done inauthentic copy of what my peers found acceptable, or I could just stop worrying that people laughed at me and enjoy being myself. College was pretty tough - no unkindness or bullying, it was just very lonely - but I eventually found a bunch of friends and something I loved to do and my life has just got better as I've got older. I never did so many things people think essential - never learned to drive, never got married, never had kids - but if I fell under a bus tomorrow I could genuinely say that I've lived the life I wanted, one where I prioritised the quality of existence over long-term goals. So thanks for putting this idea into words. Can't wait to see what my sixties are like.

@ckdraws410Ай бұрын
You need to find people who appreciate your true self. Much easier said than done, I know. I only had one real friend until I went to college, and I would even pretend to her a lot of the time as well. I had learned that if I didn’t pretend to be someone I’m not, someone who was more “normal” and palatable to most people, I would face severe rejection. But gaining connection with people by putting on an act isn’t really gaining connection. Your real self will still be just as lonely, so you might as well be authentic since it might help you find people who will truly accept you and appreciate you. Once I left home, I realized that the problem wasn’t that I was unpalatable, but that the people around me had narrow palates. I hope you have a similar finding Side note: a big part of this journey was realizing that I’m probably autistic, and finding people who are also likely autistic, or who at least understand that different is not a synonym for bad and who will work to meet me in the middle in terms of communication differences and don’t get upset with me for mostly talking about my few passionate interests

I sometimes think that nowadays people don't do stuff purely for fun, out of interest or for themselves. Everything has to be documented and shown around, every little thing. It's easy to forget that to achieving something great is a process and that process can even take years. That's why intrinsic motivation is so important, if you rely on anything outside of you to continue for years to come you are set up for failure. But if you yourself are the motivation then you can accomplish great things. Remember, nothing worth having in life comes easy. Motivation isn't everything, you also need discipline.

Nice. "The person who enjoys walking will always walk further, than the person who enjoys the destination". I love that quote. I've been playing volleyball for 2 years, and about half a year ago I had the chance to play for a club. A few weeks ago I had my first match (I, of course, started on the bench). When I got subbed in, my heart started racing, and I was so nervous because I didn't want to mess up and disappoint my coach. I messed up the first two serve recieves... Then it hit me. I was nervous because I wanted to show everyone, that I was good. In that team, I played volleyball for the shortest time (2 years), and almost everyone else had at least twice as much experience as me (some even up to 6 years). I started thinking. I'm one of the youngest team members, and I have nothing to lose. It just clicked in a second, and after that, I wasn't focused on not messing up. I focused on what I love. Volleyball. From the moment, that I started to enjoy playing on the field I was much better. This crucial thing in sports is something that you can't teach a player they have to experience it themself. I love how you discussed this in the best possible way!

I don't know if I should be commenting like this or just some witty joke or throw a compliment...but anyway: I think the process of analyzing video's and media 4:30 is apart of the fun. Its like when you analyze a games mechanics to find exploits, its satisfying to see it in action and working. The important part is making sure that you still stick to what you enjoy, you **should** understand what makes the best video's then incorporate aspects of it into what you enjoy, that way you can have fun and be rewarded for it. Also one major reason why most don't profit from learning new information is cause they never apply it. If you spend all your time analyzing how to make a good video, then you wont have enough time to actually put the knowledge to use, often time making you forget it or doing it poorly. You have to apply as you learn to get the most out of it. Good vid, I hope this helps people, but for some reason I doubt it will. Not because its a bad video, but because I don't think this experience of rejecting social conformity is something that you can understand from a video. As you said "Once you finally stop playing that game, you realize how stupid it all is", it falls on deaf ears for anyone who doesn't already understand. At least...I currently don't know how someone goes about realizing stuff like this without it occurring naturally over years, and even then some end up going the wrong route becoming worse off than they started. (don't take this comment too seriously, it's just my random opinion 😄)

thank you for the comment! i love hearing honest insights like this. you’re very right about the idea that most information pretty much goes out the window unless you do something with it. aristotle has a simple quote about that idea that i always remind myself of: “the purpose of knowledge is action, not knowledge.” in a weird way, these videos are a great way for me to act on the new insights i get, whether they’re my own or from others. reading & replying to comments like yours is also a huge part of my learning process, so thank you again :)

I have been watching this video nearly everyday since I first saw it, that was 2 weeks ago. I really like how motivate people to be different but mainly, “redefined” potential. I was seen as an high potential athlete from of a very young aged and was trained as one. “Reach my potential” was all I knew after a while and I tried to live up to those expectations, which inevitably caught up with me. I had to stop for mental reasons and sulked for a very long time about not reaching my “potential”. This video truly changed my perspective and helps me a lot to get over it all and reminds me that this life is our own, not others. It should be lived the way we want to. It’s your process and your choices to make, do not let others take it away from you.
@liamzgbАй бұрын
well said bro. i’m sorry you had to deal with that bs. i feel like with sports it’s way too common & all it does is give young athletes that fucked up complex of guilt & not feeling like ‘enough,’ whatever that means. i’m glad it seems like you’re getting past it bro. i think a good life is one that’s lived on your own terms. rooting for you to keep doing it :)

@liamzgbАй бұрын
lol we both got different messages out of this but honestly that’s not a bad thing. the idea i was getting at is more along the lines of ‘don’t chase things just because everybody else says you should.’ as someone who lives their life trying to be ‘better,’ i’ve had to learn the hard way that the most important part of that equation is being able to define what ‘better’ is for you. i appreciate you calling that out though man, thanks for the comment

i’m really glad you enjoyed it! idk if everyone is reading eachother’s comments or what but the fact that ‘authentic’ is the word you $ a few others chose means so much to me. i respect authenticity in a person more than almost anything, so i try to make everything i do and say as real/honest as i can. keep pushing forward! thanks for the comment :)
@esteerutten172723 күн бұрын
what I would add to this (beautiful message btw!), is stop looking at other people so much, stop being so concerned with how other people are living their lives, and focus on what's right in front of you, the things that make up your own day and be present, you will feel like time goes slower when you are actually paying attention to the things that you are doing. I have found that brings me so much more fulfillment and joy!
