I always agreed with Brad, even if it was partially to cope with his trauma and 'selfish', him defending Buddy is morally justified, even if everyone (even Buddy herself) disagrees with him. Buddy IS just a kid, she couldn't even begin to understand what her life would have been like if Brad didn't protect her. She would have been raped constantly even as a kid and forced to give birth for the rest of life, which is an absolutely horrific fate, some people argue that sacrificing one person to save humanity is worth it, but the world of Lisa The Painful is an apocalyptic wasteland, there is nothing there that would be worth sacrificing Buddy, bringing more people into such a world would be pointless, maybe humanity dying out there is best

Oh my God... And I thought everyone forgot about this amazing game... I mean, the emotions it gives are amazing. Even the ending... I was crying when Brad was forced to kill his party members... I tried to reach the least painful ending for Brad saving him both arms, choosing for Buddy to hug him in the end... But my efforts were not enough to stop the pain itself. Lisa is all about the pain... And this is what makes this story unique for me... R. I. P. Bradley Armstrong (even though physically he is still alive)... You were the most tragic example of a father figure I have ever witnessed...

I like undone a lot but it’s a totally different story to what joyful is. Maybe that’s for better or worse, but I would definitely not compare them both outside of the broad strokes. I’d argue undone is more of a Rando / Olathe centered mod given how little Buddy being the last girl drives the plot.

I think Austin’s biggest pitfall with this games writing is how buddy seems attached to Marty versus how she sees almost everyone else during joyful. It’s impossible to imagine buddy saying Marty was a better father than Brad ever was even despite all the beer outside the cave showing the contrary, it’s just one vice versus the other, but Brad most likely chooses to continue to try and do good by Buddy. I don’t get the Marty stuff in painful at all and I feel like it just sits as a blemish on what is otherwise a captivating story. It definitely feels like Austin wanted Brad to be a morally grey character. But when he tries to juxtapose how Buddy saw Brad vs how she saw Marty it feels just wrong. I love this game but that part has always been a sore spot for me. Maybe I’ve just always been more sympathetic to Brad as a character than most people, but it just feels like sometimes (especially involving Buddy and Brad) it felt like it was hatred upon hatred that seemed very unwarranted in the story that unfortunately follows painful.

@@bossdoor my guess is unreliable narrator fuckery involving Brad and the slow effects of joy mutation. Since Buddy is much younger than Brad with I would assume the joy wouldn’t take long to have a far more potent effect on her like we see in joyful and all of the visual hallucinations. VS Brad I would argue it’s likely a lot of what he hears or sees from people could be effects of the Joy taking over. Brad still has hallucinations involving Joy but they’re all tied to Lisa and his trauma, so Buddy and Sticky saying things to allude to Buddy’s rape by sticky could possibly be chalked up to Brads mind simply assuming the worst or making things up based on what he KNOWS happened to Lisa, and what he fears could happen to Buddy. He doesn’t want to fail to protect Lisa again, it’s something I think definitive editions secret final boss demonstrates wonderfully and it’s one of the few genuine improvements to the games

Well, that's because Marty, like Brad, is a man who's attempting to make up for the wrongs he did in the past. Marty's not over his addictions much like Brad, so bottles are expected. but the cave scene made clear that she didn't even know what joy was thanks to her closed-off lifestyle, and Marty even tells her not to take them while Brad asks for her to look away when confronted with it. Buddy's also likely going through puberty around the time that the events in the game are taking place so unstable emotions are commonplace.

Personally im ok with Lisa: The Joyful. I think it served its dual purpose very well - it was simultaneously "more of the first" while also being a more direct answer to what happened in Painful for those of us who didnt quite get what was going on. I like to akin it to Hotline Miami and its respective sequel, serving to be more direct with the player about irs story and providing more official game play

Tbf I really wonder about the post credit scene at the end with brad cause it just shows him strolling up to buddy I assume maybe the developer put it in their with the dlc in mind; but without it your left thinking a joy mutant brad is getting close to a sleeping buddy who has a sword and idk it just leaves to many questions in my mind. Like I get the dlc wasn’t the best and I feel it would have done better as a full game instead of a dlc but at least it doesn’t leave on such and ambiguous cliff hanger. Or maybe this game has made me crazy who knows

Loved the video, but i think there's one thing that would make it better. When you've put "Undertale" over the fight where Brad massacres Rando's army, the song should've progressively gotten more distorted and eerie, to symbolize that Brad is losing his last bits of humanity, his precious memories are being twisted into animalistic instincts and desire to kill, and he's quickly stepping towards his doom. This would've made the scene hit much harder.

First of all, just wanted to say thank you for remembering me, Boss Door. It means a lot. Your editing is very well-done and your humor combined with your monotone voice makes for a fabulous watch! Now, I'm about to criticize Lisa the Painful heavily as I have discovered that I don't like this game very much, but this is in no way criticism directed towards you. I think you're a very good creator! I just don't like the game and have decided to add to the conversation, even though no one asked. 1. Brad's dad and Buddy's relationship...is not great. She's just a kid, sure, but why would she say that Marty did a better job taking care of her than Brad ever did? He [Marty] CLEARLY didn't do a great job, what with the blue Joy pills, the alcohol, the cave, and whatnot. Maybe she just said that to hurt him, but that's unnecessarily cruel. 2. How did Brad completely annihilate his father and the army? Is he magic?? Did the Joy mutate him? Or just "video game logic"? 3. Trans erasure. The apocalypse wiped out all flora/fawna and women, right? But trans MEN exist. Testosterone is not a form of birth control (although some trans men cannot/don't wanna go on T, and that's fine, too) (continued in reply to this comment)
