Bit of unsolicited advice from an economically challenged geezer - If you've given up all hope of owning a your own home, might as well try your damndest to settle in a place you love. No sense living paycheck to paycheck in a shitty locale, with an unpleasant climate, or unfriendly locals, or a social scene not to your liking, etc. If you're lot in life is to just eke by, might as well be somewhere nice. You're living conditions may be far from ideal, but your surroundings don't have to be. If your response is "easier said", you haven't tried. Good luck!
