I’m sure that you’ve heard the old saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. However, according to book publishers, that is exactly what we do. Book publishers will tell you that your cover design is one of the most important decisions that you can make when creating a book.
The reason is that research has proven that when making a decision to purchase a book, most people spend about 3 seconds looking at the front cover and about 7 seconds looking at the back cover.
Maybe they will flip through the book quickly; nevertheless, if they like the “look” of the book then they will buy it.
Some may flip through the book to see of there is any content - but most don’t. They purchase the book based on its “look.”
Strangely enough, people do the same thing with you; they judge you by your “cover” - your image.
We all create an “image,” in people’s mind. That “image,” can often be quite different that we have of ourselves. Yet, other people’s image of us may be more correct.
Why? Because it is sometimes hard to see ourselves as we appear to others and that appearance is, usually, more aligned with the “true” you. (We are just “too close to the forest to see the trees.”) For example, you may feel that you are a good person, a hard worker, and a good and trusted friend who is always fun to be around; however, others may see you as a person who is insecure, who gossips, and is whiny.
True, you might say that what others think of you is “their” business. Yet, that is not necessarily true, is it? What others think of you or the image they have of you in “their” minds is a factor in how successful you will be in life.

We always say "Don't judge a book by its cover" but we tend to forget that most of the time the cover is supposed to reflect what's inside the book
@HauptmannGallenstein
@HauptmannGallenstein Жыл бұрын
it doesnt make sense for humans because it literally just reflects your ancestors and what was outside of your control until you were 20 years old more specifically childhood and puberty, it reflects things that are and were not your own choices and not your own guilt

And If it doesn't , then it simply means that we are trying to Hocus -Pocus about our true identity which may seem idealistic in some situations but is oftentimes considered as a hypocrisy towards behaviour.

Honestly the kind of uncomfortable truth I've been desperately trying to preach to my friends for a while. People need to understand that, there is already little merrit to your character if you don't even have the decency to take proper care of yourself. And if people will judge you for being negligent with your own hygiene and presentation, that is not them being "shallow and objectifying", it is you being unhygienic and unpleasant to be around.

Probably the only real use of "don't judge by its cover" is when we try to identified someone's foolishness either that he's actually a fool or pretend to be

I was watching an anime named "Black Clover" and somewhere in the last episode I got to listen to this statement when someone tried to oppose by saying, "You shouldn't judge people based on their looks" and the reply came, "If you don't wanna get judged by your look then you need to change the way you present yourself". And that struck me so well it helped me change my behaviour and presentation of myself in front of others. And here Mr. Forged reminding me of that again, to keep pushing and improving myself. Thanks man.

mm interesting. I was looking at first impressions in a way of behavior instead of mainly appearance. As in working a job where you're meeting the executives for the first time and can't behave the way you normally would with your coworkers and managers...as in first impressions could be misleading.
@Forged88
@Forged88 11 ай бұрын
Behaviour is usually judged or considered after your appearance is perceived. I'm just generalizing here, there are always exceptions as they both can go hand in hand, it all depends on what stands out from you or what you showcase to people firsthand whether it is positive/negative and mostly it is through your appearance & demeanour. In professional settings you also have a standard in your corporations or among your peers of how you should present yourself so you'll be taken seriously. But we all know when it comes to work, performance is everything, but that doesn't mean you should sabotage your opportunities to be perceived as a valuable part of the company by neglecting how you present yourself

Lets face it, despite all the 'dont judge a book by its cover' talk people do judge off initial impression & clothing, body size etc. People haven't got the time in most cases to do anything but judge people from initial impression.

Excellent video as always, but take this advice with a warning. There are a lot of high value circles of people who actively avoid people who view others in this way. We understand this is a slippery slope that can quickly deteriorate into tribalism. Do with this information what you will.

Great video man, although I have to disagree. To truly know someone you have to be willing to look past the looks and inside their mind, that’s my philosophy.

You give a lot of good advice, but I don't think everyone who says don't judge a book by its cover just can't handle being criticized. I'm a nonconformist - I only use this phrase when someone admits they've misunderstood me, or when others have the wrong opinion of someone I know. Honestly, I'm not going to use this phrase to make myself look like I'm more than meets the eye - I am - but I don't care if others don't know it - I don't need their approval or validation. Most of the best books I've read have surprisingly boring covers. You want to seem like you want to hit us with some hard deep truth, but it seems more like your obsession with some kind of people than an objective truth. Bc you might look priceless on the outside - if you're trash on the inside, you're worthless. Plus, unlike the book, I don't just sit there waiting to be read - I can introduce myself to people 😉

Exceptions does not disprove the general rule. The fact that you have to justify to this extent to "prove" yourself that you really don't care about how others think about you, just makes it clearer that you need that approval of "being different"

@@marshallpeters3853 Well, that s not the general rule and I didn t justify to this exthend to prove myself I don t care about others opinion - I just used my own experince to make a point bc I use the phrase too - from one nonconformist to another 🙃Instead, this accusation might be a projection 🥲

@@ronn0246 You said you're a non-conformist, that itself shows you're trying to be an exception to the rule. The problem is, most people will judge you by the cover. That is the general rule. Regardless if you consider yourself as interesting, if you smell like garbage, people will not take you seriously and will eventually avoid you because you give them the "ick" factor. No matter how much you say you don't need other people's approval, humans are social creatures and have social needs. You still need some people's approval, no matter how little, to consider you as "a part of the tribe" or "respectable" one way or another. Humans don't like feeling isolated or alone, It's okay to admit it bro
@ronn0246
@ronn0246 Жыл бұрын
@@marshallpeters3853 That's right, most people will judge you by your cover - but most people are more than their cover suggests - that's what I was talking about. And I don't call myself a nonconformist because I'm trying to be an exception to the rule - but because I am 😅 I can't help but be different. And just because I don't need everyone's approval, that doesn't mean I'm not approved or that I don't have friends - there are always people who will get you. And yes - people need other people - being nonconformist is not about being alone, it's about being authentic.

so essentially you say its over if youre below 6 foot 3 just cope or die ita all about height face frame but actually its mostly about height and frame but even more importantly its about height. nowdays even women are getting 6 feet and weighing 170lb without being fat and they deadlift 300 lb so if youre below 6 foot 3 its overrrrrrrrrr you actually need to be 6 foot 5 because 6 foot 3 already is just average for zoomers and young generation. 6 foot 5 is the only base that will guarantee you victory and dating

No, what is being said here is that you should take a shower, use soap, wear some good looking clothing, have a welcoming body posture and warm attitude, so that people feel more inclined to interact with you, and judging by your first impression in this comment I will assume you have none of those.
