Well, I think IQ means something substantial but shouldn't be equivocated to general intelligence, even though that is what it was intended to represent. Its best to think of IQ as the ability to reason though complex systems.

No, general intelligence is definitely real. It’s basically just pattern recognition ability. It’s very difficult to teach low-iq folks complex concepts. If IQ is low enough, it can become very difficult to teach just about anything. IQ is basically just how easy is it to teach the person once you’ve found the best approach that works for them.

This is because IQ is more like height than people realize. A tall person has a higher chance of entering the nba than a short person. But it doesn’t actually mean that a short person CANT be an elite basketball player baller. They just usually aren’t. And it would be a lot more work. A low IQ person CAN learn as much as any body else. It would just take longer. Require more effort, commitment, and discipline. Low IQ doesn’t mean ‘irreconcilably dumb’

There is just absolutely no way someone with a 70 IQ can ever be as curious, knowledgable or analytical as someone with a 140 IQ. Your basketball analogy doesn’t scale.. it’s like an adult playing against a 2 year old. The person in this video absolutely cannot have an IQ of 70 by the way, it’s wrong, so using him as an example is not going to be an accurate depiction of someone who really has that limited ability. The thing is, it’s extremely rare because of the bell curve. Fortunately and unfortunately, most people are just average, and that is okay.

I think he should focus on understanding his learning style, work with a mentor (to help him handle his money, marshall his resources, and grow his skills base), and prepare for a higher-paying, skills-focused job in a place that will appreciate him. The right kind of mentor can make that happen.

I think it's an incredibly dangerous thing for a society to question the value of people with low IQ. This implies the idea that a person with higher intelligence is worth more than a person with lower intelligence. Why is this so dangerous? If your value as a person depends on possessing a trait which you have no control over (such as higher intelligence), this means that no human has intrinsic value. When you accept the idea that a human must justify the value of their life by demonstrating traits that are deemed as favorable, you can also justify any evil against them. Before you massacre or mistreat masses of people, you must first dehumanize them.

If there are no low IQ people who is going to do the cleaning, building, paving or gardening? People with high IQ often think too complicated about simple things which makes them worse at jobs that require practical skills. Low IQ means nothing. They have all the skills that high IQ people lack. My IQ is 119 so I am above average, but I totally respect low IQ people. I see them do things that I can't do. They are often more sociable. Low IQ people have no problem to admit they don't know and have no problem asking for help while high IQ people tend to be arrogant and know-it-all's.

The problem is what percentage of population have low IQ. Just look around the world and see what kind of socities groups with average IQ below 80 creates. IQ is highly heritable , so low IQ people have low IQ children and our general intelligence has been going down.

I'm not an expert, but a bit of a psychometrics hobbyist. It seems your verbal reasoning is well above 70, and I think you're very fortunate in that. Not everyone can consider and weigh abstracts like you are able to in this video. Do you happen to know what your sub-scores were? IQ tests are often broken down into verbal reasoning, working memory, etc. which combine into an "FSIQ" or full-scale intelligence quotient. Something interesting to add/think about regarding low IQ jobs and high IQ jobs... for a long time people thought it was the people flipping burgers who were going to be replaced by machines. It turns out we're seeing that more intellectual jobs-- writers, financial managers, lawyers- are the ones being threatened by language model AI. Software to replace intellectual labor is cheap to replicate. Durable capital goods like robotics to replace manual labor is not. Hopefully this trend will cause some to reevaluate this trend of valuing people based on intelligence alone. But I worry that the hyper-egalitarianism in the west which confuses ability for value, and insists that all are equally capable in order to justify applying equal value, will continue. And many people will fall through the cracks, ignored as inconvenient counterevidence to the world view of many.

There is a spectrum between practical and theoretical and IQ tests measure only one end of that spectrum. If you had a test that measured practical skills you'd see high IQ's would score low compared to low IQ's. High IQ's tend to think too complicated about simple things. For example what is the most efficient way to flip a burger? They will think about it for hours but never flip the burger.

AI is such and interesting and complicated issue when it comes to this! People definitely should make better note that it is language that the AI is currently replicating well. If we think historically, most jobs that have been saved for those with high intellect involve language. Business, law, coding all involve language. Communication, being able to comprehend large amounts of texts in form of laws/textbooks or even learning a coding language. As a non-american law student chatgpt is definitely not an option right now in our legal system. It clearly has been trained mostly on data regarding common law systems, not civil law. I have tried asking it question about finnish law and especially the legal system. It spouts out very vague things that combine what it has learned from data regarding common law systems and tries to apply to a civil law one, while translating bits and pieces of our law into it’s answer in a context that doesn’t make sense in our legal system. 😂

He says he worked at McDonalds, and due to him being "low IQ" he took his job seeiously and outpreformed others. OK, makes sense, but then he says he was fired because of his low iq in another video. He says the job was challenging - perhaps this is true, but even if so, was it because of low IQ? It is very strange that from his videos you would guess he is above normal intelligence, but claims to have low iq.

There is this saying: Intelligence is what an IQ test measures. And intelligence is center-focussed but with blurred outlines. Which leads to the question: Is a Savant intelligent? Are indigenous people intelligent who may only understand basic maths but can survive on their own in the jungle while a professor with a PhD in math can't?

I didn't do great on an IQ test in my early 20's, but years later I was diagnosed with ADHD. Im sure I have other learning disabilities as well. These IQ tests aren't everything. There are many types of intelligence, and at our core our true inner being is perfect in every way. Don't let the label of "low IQ" affect you too much. We are all important and worthy beings.

I've often thought that the jobs done by those considered 'lower IQ' such as dustman, sewer worker, labourer, care worker and many more tend to be necessary for society to function and show an obvious positive result at the end of each workday/shift. So-called 'professional' roles may be socially useful (doctor, engineer, etc) but many are well-paid administration roles of limited worth - especially in the state sector. Even the people doing such well-paid "BS jobs" I know personally admit they don't see any value in their role and even that they could be sacked without much impact on the workplace. Better the man who works with his hands than the office drone who doesn't know what he's even doing.

Amusingly, there's a Soviet-era science fiction novel called _Andromeda Nebula,_ in which everyone is basically an "Alpha." The difference between these Alphas and those of _Brave New World_ is that in _Andromeda Nebula,_ they are conditioned from the start to appreciate all kinds of work: from the routine and physical to the intellectually and emotionally stimulating. This is, of course, in line with the communist ideal of the time. The worker is viewed as the most noble of people - not merely as an abstractly defined class, but literally as people who work. Working a job - any job - is the highest ideal and these people undergo mandatory job changes every few years. It's an extremely utopian novel, without the dark side that something like _Brave New World_ has.

I am happy to see you reading "Brave New World". Even happier you found the honest truth. Civilization would not exist if we were all the same. Everyone has a purpose. You are in some ways, more fortunate than folks on the high IQ side. There is a lot of mental illness that comes with a high IQ. No matter what your IQ, life is a challenge. It is great you are challenging yourself to improve by reading. Many people with higher IQs haven't read "Brave New World". Try to learn a new word everyday. Use that word and suddenly you will be smarter. I am very grateful for your video. I have always wondered how someone with a low IQ functions in this modern world. It seems you do just fine in some areas. I have seen comments that folks think you have a higher IQ than 70. I might agree but it is very hard to know what, and how much, people think. Lots of people think "low IQ = Stupid". It's not, being stupid is to not even try to understand something and taking on opinions that one will not change not matter what, etc. Stupid people are bad, not low IQ people. A LOT of people are lazy, I was a lazy kid. It would've been fair to blame me for being lazy or not paying attention, but at the same time I had no reason to do any better than just barely passing classes. Some aren't, and are, or were, trying their best (frustration of failing might lower motivation significantly). So I don't know, I think school is kinda flawed as it is... Should be more focus on critical thinking, and finding interests that can help in developing as a person. Then of course there's lots of things that are necessary to know to function in society too, but this might be easier for kids to study when they aren't bored the whole day of regular school.

I'm of above average intelligence. Not genius level, but definitely above average. I hope I am not arrogant about my IQ. To me it is just a useful skill to have, not part of my identity. I have worked in jobs that are stimulating to me, jobs that are to hard for me and jobs that are not stimulating at all to me. I think all of them have something great to them. For example I miss the jobs where I can just let my hands do the work and my brain is either floating somewhere else or I listen to some podcast learning stuff. Also they tend to be more physically demanding, which is good for my fitness. I have respect for all the manual workers and I hope their jobs never run out. I think a low skill job done well is just as valuable as a high skill job done well.

Ive never been super smart and i never really did well in class when it came to maths and stuff and my brain seem to often have a short limit on the mental capacity and stuff. I'm a teacher. I get what you're saying about not being angry with low IQ students. And we really shouldn't be. But it can be very frustrating to be in a situation where you have to deliver certain results and not be able to. Not everyone needs to he a genius, but this is pretty much what is expected not only from students but from teachers as well. If a child is not a genius teachers have to make them one. We have a long way to go untill students and adults of all abilities are successful and purposefully integrated into education and society.

I find it hard to believe that you have an IQ of 70. You're too well spoken for that to be the case. I don't think someone with an IQ of 70 would be able to reason the way that you do here. Was this some kind of online test or did you actually go to see a psychologist? I've actually found that many "Alphas" in society actually have a great respect for the work that laborers do. This is especially true when they themselves had to do hard labor before they moved on to other careers. I think it's a tragedy nowadays that there are so many professionals that go straight from high school to college, and then directly into the white-collar workforce. Back in the day, I think it was more common for people to work factory jobs at a young age, so more people understood what it meant to spend a life doing hard labor in service of others. I've watched a few of your videos and I have enormous respect for your commitment to becoming a productive member of society. I hope that you find work that you enjoy and can become skilled at.

The correlation between IQ and jobs is often a myth, sure it determines a lot but many times smart people work lower end jobs simply because of other factors in their lives, and not so smart people have seemingly "successful" jobs through nepotism, connections, or just knowing how to play the social game. My IQ is 122 (not amazing but high) and I dropped out of high school, just finished my GED at 23, and have been working entry level jobs simply because of bad choices, being on the spectrum doesn't help either. Social intelligence is where i'm lacking and unfortunately that plays as big a role as mental intelligence in society whether people want to admit it or not. Especially with jobs/ education. Being relatable and likable is more important for success than just being smart imo.

Because having a higher iq you would recognise poor choices and implement changes in your life to making better decisions and moves. Society as it is built right now is designed to accommodate low IQ individuals. I think that if everyone had a high IQ then we could restructure society to still be able to work properly. Very smart people only want more intellectually challenging jobs because in other jobs they can see that they are smarter than their coworkers and their managers. That said, I still agree that we should not shame people because they cannot learn as fast as others. We need to accept our differences in intellectual ability and try to build a world where everyone has a place.

As a comment i would say that a lot of necessary work to keep a society going is not appreciated enough for pay rates to reflect that society would collapse without such work. they are normally jobs where you have to perform tasks in 3 dimensions. A cleaner, grease monkey, plumber, orchard worker are as important as a doctor. Simplify things down to environment, and whole foods are medicine. It's the trouble people get themselves into more often than not that lead to specialist high wage elites Not only but people do put on airs.

the assumption is if everyone was highly intelligent there would be no one working low level service jobs but it's still not true, the low level service jobs just might as well have more complex systems and duties, if low level services jobs are needed the world would adapt in this way naturally given if everyone is intelligent. if intelligence was scatted per average then higher level jobs would just adapt to even more complex duties

But our attitudes would also adapt. Now 70 is considered low IQ and 120 is considered high IQ. If 140 was average then 120 would be considered low and people will insult you for not being able to calculate the square root of pi.

I agree with your point but I don't agree about the job distinction. Low IQ people have a right to exist and thrive, but that's not contingent on the idea that they're suited to work menial jobs and high IQ people aren't As someone that generally does pretty well on these kinds of tests, I personally like menial jobs because they give me the headspace to reflect and daydream. "High IQ" jobs can be soul crushing if you realize you're exhausting your brainpower on some corporate pet project. "Low IQ" jobs are used as an excuse to exploit and justify lower wages for vulnerable people. It is why, at least in America, people with disabilities can legally be paid less than minimum wage. Brave New World is a criticism of this distinction, and a breakdown of our capitalist, class-based society and what it would look like if taken to its logical conclusion.

i'm not sure if this channel is a parody or something. Your points are interesting and well thought out. You're clearly smarter than you either think or claim. An IQ of 70 is comparitively lower than the smartest dog breeds would achieve. I have an IQ result above 120 and I'd struggle to read clearly whilst thinking of points to talk about and speaking into a camera in the way you have here. So, just genuinely interested if this is all legit content. Or if you're just trying to reach an audience, even if it's with good intent to help? If you genuinely think you're low IQ, I'd suggest retesting, or finding other ways to gauge your intelligence because you're definitely not slow and IQ tests are known to be flawed in general.

I am so grateful youtube guided me to you. I have an IQ of 140 and as a child the language used towards me and others regarding this was ultimately derogatory and unhelpful. I had to do a lot of unlearning during my late teens and early 20s that everyone has intrinsic value and I am not worthy of a) more money, b) safety and security, c) better health outcomes just because I can fulfil cognitive tasks better than someone else. Everyone is deserving of respect for their role and intrinsic value in society. Even reframing it as "different kinds of intelligence" has limited usefulness in promoting kindness, understanding, and a cohestive society. Being a human being should not be a competitive sport or have some sort of numbered power ranking against the worthiness of all other people. Especially for people with disabilities and elderly people with cognitive decline - society should unconditionally provide supports for people to live a happy and fruitful lives.

division of labor; I think taking a few aspects of the Singaporean education system(they place children into different class groups based on IQ/test results from what I've heard & they also do this with the teachers for which students they are in charge of) but not going overboard with it might be helpful. If he truly has an IQ of 70 he would be considered disabled and would be entitled to legal protection due to his disability. Him being transparent about it can be even better, because if a potential employer finds out information about his disability like this and due to prejudice doesn’t hire him just based on information about his disability that they shouldn’t have…. Well I think that have potential grounds for legal action, of course depending on the country. In my country it is illegal for hiring employers to google people they are interviewing without the permission of the person they are interviewing. I've been watching a few of your videos and I've noticed you care a lot about your IQ level. Yes, it can be important in some ways but what's more important is your happiness, so I'd say you'd be better focusing more of your time on that. Try finding a hobby you enjoy and you can even make videos about it so you can share your passion with us. At the end of the day happiness is way more important than intelligence so don't get too wrapped up on that and try to spend more time doing things that make you laugh and smile instead 🙂

I'm a high school science teacher, and I understand that some students are just not adept at understanding / learning concepts. They fall into 3 camps: those who are enthusiastic and try their hardest, those who give up and sit quietly while they wait for the class to end, and those who alleviate their boredom by being an utter nuisance to me and their classmates. If you're not very bright, just trying your hardest is all anyone can ask, and it's worthy of as much respect as an A grade. Also, staying out of the way is acceptable. But those who waste their own time, and everyone else's, can go to hell; It's those kids that give low IQ people a bad name. Though, to be fair, some intelligent kids do that too (which is even worse because they're squandering a genetic gift).

@@helifalic you are dangerously over attributing everything to IQ. Human behaviour is extremely complex, and cannot be simplified down to IQ as the biggest variable. Many psychologists today posit that there are roughly 9 facets of intelligence. IQ only measures 3. And even if IQ measured all 9 facets of intelligence, that still wouldn’t even come close to measuring someone’s personality. Further, let’s assume that what you are saying is true, which I doubt, but for the sake of argument let’s assume that IQ is the biggest predictor of income and marriage stability, and that therefore a child’s upbringing is the sum of their parents IQ predominantly. Under this assumption, we still arrive at other societal issues being the problem as IQ measures 2 things: fluid intelligence and crystallized intelligence. The G-factor resides in fluid intelligence. Whereas crystallized intelligence completely relies on access to education and information. So even then, I’d argue that IQ is less important for measuring a families income and stability, but rather education is a much bigger factor. In my life, I’ve run into all sorts of people both dumb and smart. What I’ve noticed is that there are a lot of smart people that come from poor places, and a lot of dumb people come from more affluent environments. We cannot view human behaviour purely from the lens of IQ - this is very dangerous. IQ, with all its flaws, is only a small aspect of what makes a person a person. I used to share this view of yours, that IQ could be attributed to a large chunk of human behaviour, but in reality it can't.

Education only correlates with income because most of the highest paying jobs require difficult degrees - but you can't attain those degrees without fluid intelligence first. I've taught in quite a few schools at this point, from low SES to high SES, and there are shocking differences in overall student behaviour and general ability. It's naive to assume that those kids develop academic ability based on affluence. If daddy is rich, it doesn't help Jimmy understand abstract concepts. Now, here is your fundamental misunderstanding with my point: I didn't claim that IQ determines even a large chunk of human behaviour. I was talking about student behaviours in the context of science in high school. Misbehaviour in this case arises predominantly from a lack of interest, which I'm asserting typically arises from a lack of ability. If you can't keep up, you'll get bored. If you're bored, you're more likely to act up. I am not misunderstanding your point, I am just arguing that lack of ability is a small factor and that there are many other factors that supersede IQ, that determine a students interest in high school science. I will proceed to list them. 1. Cultural significance of education. Different cultures and backgrounds put a certain level of emphasis on education. This is completely unrelated to intelligence, this is a completely cultural matter. As such, you'll notice Chinese students or Indian students that work extremely hard and are extremely interested in math and science. This is not because Indians and Chinese have greater ability than everyone else, this is because they come from a culture of studying extremely hard in school. 2. Money. Money plays a big role in your access to support. I know you like to argue that IQ is the predictor of money, but for the sake of a hypothetical let's assume we have Bob and Joe. Bob has an IQ of 100, so does Joe. But Joe and Bob come from different socioeconomic backgrounds. And as such, Joe being the far richer of the two is much more inclined to enjoy and appreciate education because every time Joe struggled with a concept his dad could afford to take time off work and help him, or even buy him a tutor. Bob on the other hand, even though his IQ is completely equal to Joe, Bobs dad works 3 minimum wage jobs and could never afford to take time off work to help Bob when he was struggling with a concept. As a result, despite Bob and Joe having equal IQ, Bob is extremely frustrated and disinterested in high school science because he doesn't have a support system to help him learn. 3. Friends. At a young age, what a child's friends do greatly influence their path in life. Many students, if involved with a studious group of friends, will also be studious and follow. However, if one finds themselves gravitating towards a group of friends that are disinterested in education, despite the individuals IQ, they will also have a proclivity to copy what their friends are doing. 4. Guidance. Children need guidance above everything else. A 110 IQ child with guidance can far exceed the capabilities of a 150 IQ child who never had support systems or guidance. 5. To conclude, I have listed 4 factors that supersede intelligence that have a great impact on a child's proclivity to education. I maintain that it is a dangerous argument to make that IQ is an indicator of children's engagement with high school science. Further, you may now make the counterargument: but some of the factors you listed are results of socioeconomic standing, which is predicted by IQ! This would be such a true point if our society wasn't designed to make rich people richer and poor people poorer. Because of the structure of our society, being poor traps you in a cycle of being poor - this is evidenced mathematically, I have studied it in depth as a mathematician. A famous example for you to look at is Vilfredo Pareto's distribution that showed the longer a capitalist society exists, the richer the rich will get and the harder it will be for the poor to escape poverty. Thus, by the vary design of our society, it is so hard for poor people of any IQ to escape poverty. And it is so easy for rich people of any IQ to maintain that wealth. And with money, comes greater education, and with greater education comes greater understanding, and with greater understanding comes greater interest. Hence why IQ is such a good predictor of work success, because it's such a good predictor of education! Also, not to be an annoying mathematician, but we also can't completely put our faith in psychology models - inherently, they are so multivariable to a point they are almost redundant. And there is so much we still do not understand about human behaviour, one can only ask: how many unknown variables of human behaviour are we missing that stop us from making a complete picture?

I find it hard to believe that this person is unintelligent. He is articulate, reads literature, and thinks about society on an abstract level. I am wondering if this is a case of ADHD with a brain shut off and dyscalcula for your math. Not invalidating, but i wonder. Nonetheless, i fought with people over this. Two very intelligent men at different times shared their idea of genocide based on intelligence, and I have built an arguement around why this is not just wrong, but a negative for society. Low IQ is below 85 and there really isn't much jobs for those people in the west, mainly because these jobs have been automatized.

There are many things I want to say, but I will keep it brief. You are not just the number that the IQ test assigned to you, and you may find that through your efforts now and later, that the number which is supposed to be a measure of your innate intelligence has changed. I want you to know that you are not a number, but a person capable of growth and experiencing things in different manner from everyone else, primarily because everyone experiences their own life in their own way. Do not pigeonhole yourself into being "the stupid guy" or whatever, even if you're forgetful or a bit slow compared to your colleagues, you still have something to add. I think jobs are a means to survive. If jobs are automated, either unskilled workers are maintained with social safety nets, or they're forced to survive in other ways. Scavenging, hunting, fishing, and farming for subsistence are ways to survive. Though it will be ironic if we get so technologically advanced that people are made to go back to more primitive living conditions.

How many times have you had to settle down someone above you who makes an error that you didn't? We also have to constantly explain that dumb people are not easier to control. Ignorant people, ignorant people are easy to control. At 24, I had an IQ of 116 with serious defects from schizophrenia, which I'm obviously faking say hours of people. Fine. Brother you don't seem to be low IQ. I excelled at science in English but almost failed math every year lol. I work with a guy who I suspect has low IQ. He's also lazy as hell and complains everytime he has to learn any new task . Even the very basic of task he has trouble completing. I'm talking about a 45-year-old man. We also just hired a 20-year-old kid with little to no work experience but he is leaps and bounds ahead of the 45-year-old.

Everybody has a place. We can't all be geniuses. And geniuses also come with their own set of problems - lack of social skills, usually. I'm categorized as Superior and I've witnessed how people categorized as Gifted operate also - they're far better than me with their cognitive skills, LOL. But my social life is better than theirs. maybe you should get tested again. I don't think your IQ is really 70. And if you measure that low it could mean that you have some other learning disability which is interfering with your ability to take the test. There are many different types of IQ tests, some even measure it by having you stare at a dot on a wall and they measure brain activity. you might find your IQ is actually much higher than a paper test (or some other clinical test). It isn't fair for you to be labeled with such a low score if other certified tests indicate otherwise.

I don't think you have an IQ of 70 and if the test said you did then it was not done correctly. It could just be learning disabilities that were not accounted for in the test. Also, IQ is not something that is fixed. People can improve their IQ 1-5 points per year of extra education.
