Cute. I actually had a metal Tonka (sadly not Tonnika) dump truck that apparently a 4-year-old could sit on and ride (self-propelled). My mother would take away from me because I might scrape up the floor in the house...

There was a cool story about them in the book "Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina" Its a really good book. Its a bunch of short stories about the background characters in the Cantina and the events that led up to them being there at the moment the famous Luke and Obi Wan scene happens.

I love that book. My favorite story in that one would have to be the one about Momaw Nadon. I'd imagine his cool, peaceful townhouse in Mos Eisley and his previous life living on a herdship above the forests of Ithor. But as much as I love that book, I don't love it as much as Tales from Jabba's Palace. That book is a freaking masterpiece. Tales of the Bounty Hunters is really good too.

All great books, yes. I enjoy the plot loophole twist, that the backstory is that the women we see aren't the true Brea and Senni Tonnika, they are two women posing as them, hence their lack of resemblance as identical twins! Many great short stories in all three books iron out a lot of such creases. My favorite short story is "Of The Day's Annoyances" the Tale of Bib Fortuna. Which may or may not have been browsed while writing Disney+'s "Book of Boba Fett".

I never thought these women were prostitutes. I thought they were spies. I thought Lucasfilm did have to pay actors for their likeness. That explained why they used Darth Vader's helmet, a Stormtrooper helmet, or Yoda's puppet head on the 1995 VHS Box set, and not the principle three actors. This is especially strange considering how popular Harrison Ford was in the 90s.

Lucas is extremely good at running a business and at being passive aggressive. He might act like a Vulcan, but he's got a really deep and hidden vindictive side, especially when it comes to money and getting his own way. You cross him on either of those two things and he'll snap you out of existence. It's happened to everyone who's crossed him, from Gary Kurtz and Dave Prowse, to his ex-wife. Supposedly, she had an agreement where she got a percentage of takings of the OT in their ORIGINAL form, if you get my meaning?
@tperson8347
@tperson8347 10 ай бұрын
I definitely wouldn't say vindictive, but I would say he has some sort of pathological demand avoidance where he may be willing to give out profits and bonuses (like with nearly every, if not all, Lucasfim employees), but once you ask to be cut in on a deal, he may become uncomfortable and start stiffarming. There was a situation where Lucasfilm employees kept asking him to sign SW merch and autographs over the years and he wouldn't do it. He absolutely refused. One day he told everybody he would sign autograghs and such, but NEVER again after this. It's like, "W-why??" I know he's got his reasons, but what the Hell?? What's it going to hurt? And to be fair, Gary Kurtz, Marcia Lucas, and David Prouse were personal reasons. They crossed the line first. I'm certainlty not defending or saying those were good ways of dealing with the issue, but it wasn't for nothing.
@white-dragon4424
@white-dragon4424 10 ай бұрын
@@tperson8347 Oh, I know it wasn't for nothing, far from it. But as he himself has said with his house colour metaphor, what he wants he gets, even if it means coming back later and changing it back to what he wants. Examples: Lucas' original name for the lightsabre was a "laser sword", but Alec Guinness thought lightsabre was a more classy name. Lucas being Lucas, he backed off. But come the PT and Alec Guinness was dead, they're called laser swords again! Originally, the Death Star in ANH was supposed to just sit there waiting to be attacked, but Lucas' then wife suggested that it should be orbiting the planet and for there to be a countdown, so Lucas changed it. What happens in ROTJ and his ex-wife hasn't got any say anymore? He has the second Death Star just sitting there waiting to be attacked! Everyone says that Greedo shooting at Han is a bad idea, because he was already saying that he wanted Han dead. What does Lucas do? He not only flatly refuses to change it, but he's even been photographed wearing a t-shirt saying that Han shot first! Professional cameraman, Gilbert Taylor, refused to let Lucas take control of the camera during filming, supposedly because everything Lucas wanted to do would've ruined shoots. That's the first and last time he ever worked for Lucas! The excuse for Kurtz leaving was because he let ESB go over budget. But Lucas' films without Kurtz have gone over budget. It's more like Kurtz refused to be a puppet producer by telling Kershner what to do for Lucas. Instead he worked with Kershner rather than against him and gave his backing to Kershner's creative decisions, and Lucas didn't like it. Bye, bye Kurtz! You can see a hint of his attitudes towards confronting people face to face when Sam Jackson asked to have a purple "laser sword". You can tell that he doesn't like the idea by his hesitancy, but Lucas being Lucas he backed off. I wonder if he'll ever arrange it with Disney to have the colour changed in the future, or maybe that was in the contract? It's not beyond possibility, because if he's so nit picking that he'll use CGI to put a rock in front of R2, then he'll do anything to get his own way!

@@white-dragon4424 I agree on those the points, but with Marcia Lucas, one thing was that she cheated on him. I'm thinking there was something else about Gary Kurtz but I don't remember now. The laser sword thing is because he's becoming from a an older sci-fi background. He's old school. I hate saying old school, but you know .. :)

@@white-dragon4424No one is aloud to touch the camera except for the camera operator, those are union rules. Lucas was from the indie scene so he was used to being able to move lights and things. Here in the states the Director of Photography can’t even touch the camera only Camera ops, thats why DoPs tend to also be camera operators. Goofy rules and why it’s best to be indie. So you've got one example, and it sounds like you're trying to make it into a thing about 'he didn't lawyer up and so it means he's a good guy and got rewarded for it' but that's bullshit, and his likeness wasn't being used to help Lucas make ludicrous amounts of money on merchandising, so you don't really have a good point here. George Lucas isn't a humanitarian, he's just another businessman making money by taking advantage of lots of people and pretending he's doing something great for them.
@captlazer5509
@captlazer5509 10 ай бұрын
@jamescarter3196 read the Wolfman Jack biography called "Have Mercy: Confessions Of The Original Rock N' Roll Animal. ".... a great read. Mentions a fair bit about American Graffiti. No, Lucas is not a perfect human. Yes, he is a businessman. Lucas, out of his own pocket, gave Wolfman Jack much more money than contracted. Wolfman Jack was about to go bankrupt in the early 1970's, Lucas saved him financially and also got his career back on track. Lucas said to him that American Graffiti would not be the same film without Wolfman. He was very thankful. Don't believe me? Read the book. Watch this video again, and Mark Hamill stated he got extra money from SW. Two confirmed examples. Now the twins admit that the douchie letter probably got them band from action figure immortality, then again threatening people out of the blue tends to piss them off.

Thanks for this video explaining things. Since Disney now owns Star Wars and Lucasfilm (God help us), and since Hasbro is perfectly well aware how much the fans want these figures, I am left scratching my head as to why Hasbro don't simply approach Disney and try to persuade them to offer Angela Staines a contract that gives her a little action from the toy sales. It wouldn't have to be much, and God knows Hasbro and Disney can fleece the hell out of us collectors when they do finally release this figure pair, so I refuse to believe there isn't enough profit in this to keep everyone happy... except possibly good old George, but since he was tricked into selling his soul to the devil, his veto on making the Tonnikas must presumably have disappeared when Iger scribbled his name on the dotted line.

Pretty obvious everyone in the cantina are there to turn an easy buck outside the eyes of regulations, and they're far more likely (like you say) guns-for-hire or some other kind of sophisticated crime, just basically con-girls looking for their next victims. The idea of them actually fucking aliens in that shithole for petty cash is something only the most uncreative EU and neckbearded fans would fall back on.

This, of course, is the kind of frustration that fires up the OCD for a full scene, and the creative juices for customizers like me. I braided almost a yard of three strands of embroidery floss, as dark of brown to almost black, soaked it in glue so it wouldn't fray when cut. Glued cut strands around the heads for tresses, the last strand became the start of the coil that came to a cone at the top. Made their faces and heights differ, as the two actresses aren't related, nor do they resemble actual twins, painted their nearly matching skintight jumpsuits one blue, one green. I've been on the internet, I have found a lot of parallel thinking, other frustrated customizers have done similarly (although a few have made them identical in face and stature!)

I would think it was how much they were demanding for using her likeness. And if they didn't get paid anything, the contract would be unenforceable in the US. I contract that states we get everything and give you exactly nothing is illegal. There has to be remuneration for a contract to be legal. We go from that to them being pretty cozy in Return. Return needs that cool alternate intro with Luke in the cave for a few reasons, but Lucas never put it back in. Did he understand his movies??? I have a theory Coppola and maybe De Palma (who worked on the first crawl) helped Lucas with the writing for the 77 movie. The American Graffiti writers did ghost writing for it and wrote Temple of Doom (the actual best IJ) with Spielberg and Lucas (though also Howard the Duck). I need to research them again. Lucas took credit for Alan Dean Foster's (awesome) novelization, something which people overlook.

Yeah, well somehow they weren't able to make action figures of 'the characters' because those characters were played by real people who weren't wearing a mask, and one of those real people didn't want her likeness made into an action figure, so it wasn't, and that kinda un-does what your'e trying to say here. The characters rely on the appearance of the individuals and THAT'S the legal difference.

First off I think the actors should get something for signing away their likeness rights. Sometimes companies can find a backdoor way of releasing them without it though. A few years ago when Super7 took over MOTUC, they released movie versions of He-Man and Skeletor which Mattel said they couldn't do because of likeness rights, but what super7 did was base it on the concept art and not the "final" designs to get around it.

It's actually normal for studios to respond badly to an actor asking for more money. The guy who played "Tank" in the first Matrix movie got shit-listed for life in Hollywood for daring to ask for the same royalties agreement literally everyone else in the movie got. Thet denied it to him by claiming he wasn't a member of the actor's union so they weren't obligated to, and when he joined they still refused, then blackballed him right out of the business.

I would have sued for damages, get a settlement and enjoy the victory over Lucas. It's sad, because all these people didn't have a clue, to syndication and merchandise rights and they do deserve something. And no, not living on in the fandom mind counts. The majority of them actually deserved more, they just got scammed by very greedy individuals. The business end doesn't like negotiating and renegotiating, because it would set precedent. They don't want to open flood gate litigation. And that's a big problem with AI now, you could literally do one road runner beep or star in a single crappy film, and the studio can do whatever they want with your likeness for 90 years or more. Even the likeness of the long deceased who have no say in how they would be used, their families could very well sell them out, even against once living will/wishes. Put yourself in her shoes, in her husband's shoes protecting her and doing what is right. You'd be lying to yourself that you wouldn't exhaust all means of litigation. Or you just wouldn't care about anything if someone stole your invention or your likeness, so good on you if you don't care, enough of those people around a dime a dozen. Now a days all that legal stuff is usually accounted for, and workers do get paid, even paid above and beyond unless they are doing work as a favor. Back then a studio could possibly sell your contract to whomever they wanted or trade you like on a sports team, swap you. Best you might hope for is to be released.

We need a BoShek streaming series. We also need a figure of the recently discovered Han Solo girl in Mos Eisley. (See EC Henry's awesome channel.) (OMG. There is a black series of the ion cannon girl.) They wouldn't need to make them exact. I think it's more of Lucas's ridiculousness. I wish people would stop supporting him. We still haven't got official good, unruined versions of the OT and notice we rarely (ever?) see the Lucas era aliens in Disney Star Wars. (I haven't watched much of it.) (There is the Rebels character.) They used some of his ideas in the sequels everyone hates, maybe more than we know. (The Sith spirits are implied in RothS and he created Rey, broken Luke, and kind of Kylo Ren.) Who knows what's in the contract. He wanted to go full microbes with the Force. Thankfully, Abrams did the opposite.

@@michaeldumas9203 I'm sure some knew about her a long time ago, though this one is on the street. She looks like Han Solo's little sister (another spacer I guess) and is in a couple shots. EC Henry's channel is great. It looks like they don't have a figure of the "Enemy fighters coming your way" rebel guy in the Yavin control room lol. They could make a lame set of it. (The Twi'leks show up sometimes in Disney.)

@@ThatJunkman I always wondered what Ben (his birth name in my, prequel free Star Wars universe) says to him and what is going on and if one of them knows Chewy and how Ben knows Wookie. Maybe he is the worst smuggler in the galaxy and Ben recognized his name, so he went to Chewy. "The Adventures of BoShek, coming to Disney plus." Or maybe there is some kind of secret rebel network BoShek and Chewy are part of and Ben called them. That's why Han is there. It's not a coincidence or the Force (implied later). 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Maybe BoShek is an old friend of Ben who knows Han and Chewy or Ben senses he should go to Chewy and uses Force language comprehension. It seems Wookies are common in the 77 movie galaxy.

@50TBRD so if there is a crowd seen at a baseball stadium in a movie, everybody gets a royalty check? Do extras walking the streets get an annual check? Nope. They could have played off their 15 minutes of fame by other means, which is what I'm saying. They are not victims.
@50TBRD
@50TBRD 10 ай бұрын
Extras in most cases don't have the personality/uniqueness that was built into Star Wars and cultivated with merchandise in the fandom. Angela Staines' case is unique since her modeling contract excluded her likeness and Hasbro/Kenner/Whoever tried to backend that.

@50TBRD I know some folks who were extras in a movie, they got a one time check, done. Enjoyed the experience and no crying. Does the twins deserve more because SW was so successful? Or they were models? If they have a contract that says so. If an extra in just any movie demanded a royalty fee, then they would be replaced quickly. They took the job.

The thing about them being 'Prostitutes' never made any sense in the first place. So self employed, voluntary sex workers aren't allowed in a universe in which enforced Slavery is common? Seems it was more likely a case of clumsy miscommunication between lawyers, I doubt Lucas had anything to do with it directly although that doesn't get him off the hook, he's the Boss, what happened to 'the Buck Stops Here'? Remember when Mad Magazine got a Cease and Desist order from Lucasfilm lawyers accusing them of 'breach of copyright' for their parody of 'Empire' and Bill Gaines sent them a photo copy of a letter from George Lucas personally praising the parody? Sometimes the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Perhaps Lucas has one thing in common with his Emperor character; he employs idiots and doesn't keep an eye on them. 😂

Right? Oola gets a figure, yet her screen time is cut short minutes later, by her murder. Yet, there is a Caucasian-looking woman slave dancer with ombre hair (rumored in backstory or retrofitted to be Mara Jade in disguise) who gets no action figure, or fictional nomenclature. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Kind of unfair, here, too.
