The final formation for us should be 3-2-2-3. The problem with our system is simple and other managers like de zerbi, pep and arteta have demoed it...the FBs need to invert. One of mazraoui or dalot needs to move into the midfield BEFORE a risky forward pass is made. Pep called it making the "extra pass back" WHILE the team shape changes...while the FB moves into the midfield...in that time you make safe useless passes back to the keeper and defenders etc. You then go on the attack when the transition is complete. Dalot or mazraoui have to invert into the midfield during the build up. The reason manutd end up in the 3-1-6 formation is because we RUSH to attack and our FBs DON'T invert...instead they are all going very high up to overlap with the wingers. Thats why there is this HUGE gap in the midfield when someone plays a bad pass. This is why our games are like basketball games. Players are either running to attack or running to defend...NO in between. We dont hold posession just to have it...noooo...we are always going forward or back. Even Onana kicks long just based on vibes...and yet he should be looking for triggers Listen, There is NO system that can prevent bad passes permanently..there are very few players in the world who never hit a bad pass..a small countable number...you just have to play a system that prevents BAD passes from becoming GOALS. No midfielder is going to fix that huge GAP in the midfield...ugarte wont...even mainoo got pressed for the last goal. Even prime kante cant cover that huge space...you need the team shape to be CORRECT before you make risky passes. United players need to know which passes to make in which phase of play. The distances between players have to be correct before you begin making risky passes. This small thing is why teams like mancity and arsenal take control of the game...its not that rodri or declan can cover massive spaces...its that stones moves into the midfield to help or zinchenko/timber for arsenal etc. Those players move in the midfield to allow the DISTANCES to be CORRECT BEFORE risky passes are made The biggest problem with ten hag is I feel that he too crammed the system..he knows how the final shape should be BUT not WHY or HOW...so when things fail....HE BLAMES the players...oh look, I dont have lisandro...oh i dont have luke shaw...oh but casemiro is bad, i need de jong...he doesn't teach the players WHY they have to do something in a CERTAIN phase of play. Casemiro can play safe passes...he just hasnt been told WHY. In ten hags mind, the solution is always to just to replace the personel...replace casemiro with amrabat etc. But good managers know and explain to players the WHY. Look at mancity...pep can play 2 Right footed defenders for most of the season...no complaints about angles etc...because he explains the details, so they know which passes are allowed and WHEN.

I think united should try an 3-4-2-1 formation , you have 3 great CB with the ball and good defending (Licha , De Ligt and Yoro) , the pivot should be fine with mainoo and ugarte , you can play with 2 playmakers like bruno and diallo to help with the creativity in the offense.
@blessingbetha97312 ай бұрын
Finally someone said it. I prefer the 4-1-2-1-2 though. I’ve been saying this. The 2 strikers can be Garnacho/Rashford and Amad and during attacks they can split. And you can also play Amad in that 10 role

this is one of the many possibilities of the way we should play or love to play, but the sad reality is that some of the best players lack the basic qualities of modern day model player of that position, and these are the players we heavily depend on. And mind you i am not talking about maguire or lindelof no, i am talking rashford who seems to have lost the basic ability of providing width for the team and solely depends on the overlapping runs of a full back in order to be effective. Mean while players like doku, son, martinelli, diaz, gakpo are all comfortable with receiving the ball in that high and wide position in a possession based team. So if rashford cannot class himself with proper wingers so what is his best position or does he always want the ball played in behind the defense on the counter only??? Bruno is a midfielder and a modern day model midfielder should be very comfortable with at his feet under pressure and should be able to at least manipulate the ball in tight areas to a certain level in order to afford space and movement for his team mates around him. Sadly bruno does not excel in these areas. But rather his strengths are receiving the ball in space and immediately smashing the ball into space for a forward runner. Ball retention and good link up play are required from modern day attacking mids. The problem here is, we depend a lot on players that are not versatile or complete. The modern day player in any position must tick all the boxes in terms of skill sets for a certain position. that is why bruno or rashford may have a brilliant game today and might put up a stinker the following week because they do not posses complete skill sets. But as a coach it is normal to try and play in a certain way in order to get the best out of a certain player while maintaining your style of play, but the task becomes even more difficult when you have about 3-4 players you are trying to protect

I feel like this system is great in buildup but im unsure if it would work successfully in the final third. It would lead to multiple united players box crashing without any target forward pinning their two centre backs. It seems like its not enough numbers in the box when in possession in the final third imo.

I strongly believe that Ten Hag should switch to a back 5 formation. Anthony or Dalot would be perfect as a right wingback, while Rashford or Mazaraoui could excel as a left wingback. I suggest a 5-2-3 formation, similar to Bayer Leverkusen's setup.

But we have only one press resistant player in the midfield which is Mainoo. 1st things first, can our players pass the ball correctly even when they are not under pressure? The answer is no! So how do you expect them to implement something so complex? The coach is not capable of implementing tactics. Something has to significantly change. If we can't pass the ball, there is nothing we can do. It is so frustrating

@@AtlantisFootball but I saw Dalot, Martinez, Mainoo, Casemiro all loose possession in our half infact they lost the ball in more dangerous areas than the Casemiro ones just that we conceded from those 2 he lost. Watch the game again and see how many turn overs we had, there were more unforced errors than forced errors. The issue of losing possession is very important because you won't concede when you have more of the ball. In that midfield Mainoo is the best press resistant player in the team Collyer too is another. Those combinations you are talking about are impossible for ETH to implement for 2 years we are still practicing how to play out from the back. The Manager for some reason looks like he does not have any plan. Too many wrong things happening at the same time. When Arsenal play you see Odegaard come short to help them play out from the back but our players are instructed to stay so high Bruno is always so high same as our full backs and one mistake just one misplaced pass and we crumble like a pack of cards looking isolated. The manager should be sacked in November if the results stay the same or no pattern of play is established. Aston Villa, Marseille, Bayern Xabi Alonso's team, Spurs and even Chelsea are implementing styles of play after one season with average players but ETH wants 7years?
