I’ve only just found your channel and it’s nice to see another person with some actual common sense and genuine ball knowledge for a change, so you’ve just made a subscriber out of me. I’ve been trying to tell the same thing to people by posting this for weeks: I keep hearing people say that we don’t have a style of play and really don’t understand why. It’s just become a buzzword for attacking the manager. Man United’s style of play is clear to me. ETH wants to play a 4-2-4 formation without the ball, then quickly transitioning to either a 3-2-5 or 3-1-6 formation with the ball. When it’s the 3-2-5, you’ll see one of the fullbacks step into midfield, therefore allowing one of our midfield players to join the attack. If it’s the 3-1-6 (which will likely only be used against lesser opposition and low-block systems), you will see either both of our fullbacks go forward helping to stretch the pitch, or we’ll see one of our midfielders join the attack along with one fullback. The system also includes having a high line of defence, so the front players can press the opposition high up the pitch, without leaving acres of space in the middle, just like we were seeing last season because unfortunately, we didn’t have defenders capable of playing it. The signing of Ugarte was essential for playing for us being able to play the 3-1-6 formation, because Casemiro doesn’t have the legs to do that job alone anymore, because the CDM basically needs to cover the ground of two midfielders, and the signings of Mattias De Ligt and Lenny Yoro were essential signings for allowing the team to play with high defensive line. Personally, I think Casemiro may be used more as an 8 rather than a 6 this season once Ugarte has settled in, because let’s be honest he still excels when going forward.

10:41 Did this man just insinuate that Roy Keane was only good at ball winning but bad on the ball? 😂😂😂 Roy Keane was a fabulous player. 8/10 at literally everything. He was a master of getting the ball under pressure. One touch, lay offs and slapping the ball wide or forward. What a mad bit of revisionism 😂
@Pat149222 ай бұрын
Indeed. Keane was a master of defence, aggression, interceptions, leading, but also often controlled the tempo of the team, when we went forward, and whether we went wide, inside the full backs or drove with the ball to the edge of the area. If Ugarte manages half of that, he will be our best midfielder for a decade. From his stats, he looks more like Nicky Butt than Keane. ( that's not a bad thing, right now )

I disagree with the assessment on 11:50 - that goal is on Marquinhos. Marquinhos carries the ball centrally towards 3 opposing players in a way that places his "bail out" option is on his weaker left foot. Ugarte shows himself initially to support but the opportunity quickly goes away because it doesn't make sense. He sees Marquinhos looking further up the pitch so he shifts left and out of the way, but doesn't sprint over there and leave his position in case he has to cover the attack. If anything, this clip shows that he is more defensive minded (by not making himself available earlier out wide when Marquinhos has the ball), but this defense-first mindset is also what makes him great. Marquinhos should have recognized that the team wasn't set up to play out from the back (he and the other CB are way too wide and deep in their own half for this) and just gave it back to the keeper. Great analysis!
@aljazzier2 ай бұрын
The keeper must also take some blame for having zero interest in being involved, he should/could shift to his right to receive a pass and open up an angle to the right back or a longer pass into the right channel. I'd need to see the full build up, but I believe that Ugarte is probably late/slow in his movement to rotate out of cdm into a higher position on the right of midfield, thus not creating space for the midfielder dropping into the cdm position or an potential ball into the striker.

Although you didn’t state it explicitly, Roy Keane with the ball at his feet - yes, in 90s and early 2000s football, it is faster and more intricate now in general - was reliable. He was no Busquets, but he’d twist and turn and make a step back and shield the ball with his body until you either gave up or a passing option became available - or, sometimes, he lost it. But he wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, in fact he was very good because of his two great attributes: his tenacity and his reading of the game. He already knew what to do next before receiving, usually. Mid- and short range passer.

I think considering Man United's current system, Ugarte's ball-playing abilities shouldn't be a huge concern. We can learn from the 3x UCL winning RM side, they knew that Casemiro wasn't as good at passing out from the back with, so they basically shifted him up almost like a CM/CAM and had Kroos or Modric drop deep instead to collect and orchestrate. We can do the same thing but with Mainoo, and if Mainoo is man-marked or under pressure we could even drop Fernandes there as well or have Dalot/Mazraoui tuck in. What we need more desperately is a ball-winner to either support or replace Casemiro, which is what Ugarte is perfect for. Also Casemiro's passing and decision-making is quite underrated, even if he's partnered with Ugarte you could potentially have Ugarte act like a wall-pass and let Casemiro's underrated long-passing help progress the ball forward.

Who should partner that future more progressive no 8.
@davidgriffith15522 ай бұрын
Mainoo is the more progressive 8, Ugarte is undoubtedly being brought in as a 6. One of the things clear last year, and last weekend, is that Casemiro doesn’t STAY in the 1 position in the 3-1-6 attacking rotation. Mainoo is so, so good on getting the ball and getting it/going with it further up the pitch, but Casemiro ends up crashing the box or tackling a player on the edge of the box. Ugarte (hopefully) will have the discipline to let Mainoo play his best game (which we’ve seen vs. Wolves, Liverpool, and City last season).

Personally I think that he's a decent buy. With the kind of system Erik Ten Hag plays, they need to win the ball higher up the pitch, and Ugarte gives you exactly that, ofc his ball progression ability is questionable but the fact that he can ping long balls to the wide players is crucial when there's players like Garnacho, Amad and uhum uhum, Rashford and Antony uhum, but yeah nevertheless, this has to be planned out extremely intricately, because if not done so, things could go horribly wrong, very quick. If Ten Hag makes it work with Mainoo and Ugarte/Casemiro as a double pivot, then United might have a chance at achieving good things. Will be interesting to see how he and Ruud plan it out.

The footage of the ball from Onana to Dalot is telling. The central players should be moving forward, not so much that they can't recover of course, when that ball is in the air in anticipation of Dalot winning it. If you notice even after the ball has entered the space and Dalot is clearly running onto it, Fernandes and to a lesser extent Mount are still jogging instead of busting a lung to get into the box for an eventual cross. Both should be 10 yards further up the pitch when the ball hots Dalot's head.

But leaving Ugarte alone in midfield seems like a bad idea if hes terrible under pressure. In any case, we'll just have to wait and see how well they play as a team and if Ugarte can learn a thing or two from Nistelroy + Ten Hag & his teammates on how to be calm under pressure

A little bit of “weird” editing in that video where it seemed to jump. For example when you were talking about the Newcastle game

Ten hag is a good coach. He'll improve on his ball playing, we saw it with Aaron.

I’m waiting for the “How Chelsea DESTROYED Wolves” video. Why isn’t that out yet?!

Thanks very much for the analysis.but you will see him play a totally different game. That's why good players fade at United

Great analysis but something you don't mention us Ugarte's workrate. Man U have a lot of players whose work rate goes down when things start going against them. Ugarte has the potential to lift everyone's energy and keep them going. That said he's probably more of a Nicky Butt or a Darren Fletcher than a Roy Keane.

I wish you were a trader giving trading tutorials. If you were explaining trading it'd be so much more interesting and understandable.

I would love to leave a comment, I think he will be a fantastic player at Manchester United to strengthen the Mid field. Stephen Patpal from Bristol

United are such an enigma, on paper and sometime in practice the plan works and we look dangerous and clever and almost like the next step in football tactics. But then we go and fuck it up, badly.

My thoughts about Eth is that he’s a good manager - but has poor instincts in reacting to the game. He wants it to be calm and relaxed, but the EPL is a wild animal.

Opposition teams will exploit his poor passing under pressure skills. Just like how emery exploited AWB & McTominay in that Europa League final.

United should switch to 3-2-4-1 formation now. It's our best bet for player longeveity now

The average position shows how isolated Maguire is at the back, luckily hes been fairly solid of late!

They will still do the same mistake against Liverpool if he start Maguire..... Coz his too scared to play high line.....

That is not really the initial eleven of Manchester United, Bruno is not our striker, he is playing there due Højlund is injury and Zirkzee was not in a 100% physically, but when they are recovered they will play from the beginning every match and also Yoro plays for the right side and he will not replace to Lisandro. The real initial eleven is (When Shaw is back he will play in the left side and Dalot in the right side): Onana Dalot/Shaw Lisandro De Ligt Mazroui/Dalot Mainoo Casemiro Rashford Bruno Diallo Hojlund/Zirkzee Ugarte will play when Casemiro is not available or for Mainoo in some matches.

I think United will play much tighter at the back with de Ligt or Yuro sat CB and Ugarter in the middle. Maguire isnt mobile enough
