Exactly, looks like a waste of beskar. It should provide at least a little better protection, but background characters dying from a single shot (or slash in fantasy) is unfortunately normal. In lore, this could be explained as a matter of tradition or prestige, or that they sometimes provide better protection (even 10% more chance of surviving a direct hit is a lot for the wearer).

Saxon and his troops didn’t have beskar. They didn’t have beskar in their armor because they were working with an anti mandalorian weapon designed by Sabine Wren that targets the beskar armor with high amounts of electricity, vaporizing the person but leaving the beskar intact.

Think of gold for example, it's mixed with many other materials, I wouldn't look at it as bad story telling when mandalore is supposed to be like this very beautiful planet that has a rare mineral source but in order to retrieve beskar they would have to mine for it excessively, plus mandalorians armor, is designed based off their ancestors who in fact was not human and was a race called taung. However Disney doesn't wanna use legends for some dumb reason. But the helmets are supposed to ceremonial then became armor and it's a reflection of the mythosuar. In legends everything is written out and explained way better than how Disney does it.

Durasteel which is used on naval ships in star wars does have blaster protection, not as good as beskar but better than what most soldiers wear in star wars. Like Beskar it is too heavy to be worn all over the body.

It's not plot armor when the story gives the hero impenetrable armor. They repeat it in the show all the time Din is wearing more wealth than what most people will see in their lifetime, and people, including his own tribe try to rob him almost continuously throughout the show. Baby Yoda has plot armor. He exists to push toys. You could kill off the main character with a new one and the show could feasibly continue.

Always assumed that varying amounts of Beskar are also woven into their fabric jumpsuits too. But yeah, like everyone else says here, the most resilient component here is 'plot armor'.

The armor was also backed up by some form of electrical shielding, probably something to absorb/spread kinetic or heat energy. We can see this as Dins armor was falling apart/being repaired it was throwing sparks and had multiple layers, at least one with electronics covering the majority of the plating. Dins first armor is the next best thing since pure Beskar is somewhat rare and generally saved for the strongest warriors.

Looking at this from the point of view that I do, plus appreciating the way Mandalorians view both their armour & Beskar in general I feel qualified to comment on your explanation: This is not the way. As a Beskar alloy plate is unable to protect it’s wearer as intended there is no justification for ruining its purity. A single chest plate of pure Beskar, along with conventional, inferior alloys making up the rest of armour would have been both more logical & effective. This is the way.

They diluted the Beskar so they could sell more of it to all the houses of Mandalor. Din Djarin's full Beskar armor could probably make 10 or more full suits of Durasteel/beskar armor.

Eventhou we know he not only killed multiple force users, he always utelizes flight to counter their fighting style. So somehow back then according to legends and such he's this prodigy master hunter. But George just thought...he just kills himself today. Not to mention two blasters mean he can aim ai a shoulder and knee at once, forcing a one lightsaber usee to chose wich to deflect. Instead he fires all nicely even. Sooooo yea. Gar Saxon and his men wore plastoid, durasteel is quite good at protecting from blasters as it was used on naval ships as armour. Not as good as beskar but still too heavy to have it cover most of the body like the plastoid clone and stormtrooper style armours.

Because later armors are only sprinkled with beskar dust, so they can be called a beskar armor as a formality. Because a Mandalorian needs Beskar, but they don't have anymore steel. There are other materials that can stand blaster damage really well. The Clones phase I armor was one such.

The clones Phase I Armor was also very blaster resistant, even though they were made from a different material. It wasn't cheap either, or light, so it got replaced. Battleships also have armors, that are very blaster resistant.

None of the shows made it up, the whole thing about how protective Beskar is literally came straight out of the pre-Disney stuff that got branded as the Legends continuity when Disney bought out the series from Lucas. You can still argue about how believable or not it is, but this is something that's been around for a while *very* long while and Dave Filoni has simply done what he's always done and brought over to Disney canon what most people already considered to be true due to growing up with the Legends stuff.

There are plenty of good stories about Superman (and superheroes), and plenty good stories about frail cripples. Fewer reach the mainstream, mind you, but not necessarily lesser in quality. Lightsabers never bounced off his armor. We literally see Luke cut his hand off. He likely has heavier durasteel plating to protect against explosions and blaster fire due to the fact that all of his limbs are mechanical and can lift heavier loads

With modern Beskaar lore, the ancient Old Republic Mandos with the full plate armor would be basically invincible and an absolute nightmare to fight… Which is me saying, please give us more Old Republic content. Please Disney. What do you mean the High Republic? The only thing High about that is you if you think we need you to invent a whole era instead of just doing the Old Republic. Just canonize the old Republic. You could literally just take KotOR and the surrounding media, change a few dates and planet names and boom no conflicts with modern canon and it’s already perfect. Give me a galaxy at war with thousands of Sith fighting thousands of Jedi instead of doing the whole “secret rule of two Sith” thing AGAIN in a different time period but worse. Heroes have plot armor that greatly improves their survival chances, and minions have plot anti-armor which greatly decreases their survival rate. For example, stormtrooper armor is actually far more effective than is commonly shown and can save your life but there is the Hollywood rule that armor doesn't exist unless it is the hero or villain which is why you tend to see knights being stabbed through full plate armor as if it isn't even there. Durasteel + Beskar is still very strong and should stop light weapons completely.

The fact people are dumb enough to go " They didn't have plot armor. " - goes to show none of y'all get it. Mandalorians in the show. Background characters - survive. They get hit by a heavy blaster, knocked down, but you see two of their squad mates picking them back up while coordinating suppressing fire with others in the pirate port fight. Several times too when the Imperial Super Commandos fight them in the show, those commandos have beskar and rounds are bouncing off of them as well, meaning they were having to engage in hand-to-hand with one another with the mandos that also were kitted out in beskar.

Well in the clone wars they were mining beskar. They were holed up in an old beskar mine and it was active meaning it WAS beskar but they probably didn’t know how to forge it without using durasteel or maybe the vein of beskar in the mine was not as pure as bigger veins. This is of course after the civil war and all the warriors were banished after tons dying. I’m sure the ancient art was lost.

Also, you don't mine Alloys. You make it by combining a base metal with a non-metal element. For example, steel is an alloy that is made by combining Iron and carbon. So if it was Beskar they were mining, then Beskar is an ore (which it was in Legends) and is pure from the start

Original lore that is the case, beskar was extremely rare in original cannon to the point that only the most wealthy could afford any amount of it. It wasn't really until the mandalorian show by Disney that it becomes (relatively) quite common. Mando armour is iron found only on their planet so it’s common to them. Soldiers wore it with Vibro weapons for thousands of years to protect from invasion and during the civil wars. Mostly it is shoulder, helmets and back & chest plates. They were among the most fearsome warriors in the galaxy due to training and civil wars.

I find it funny that it's "Mandalorian tradition & history" (stated by Sabine in rebels) to have armour design like that, but then Gar & his female high ranking super commando in Season 7 have unique & more protective suits (or the helmets at least), looking a lot more closely protective as the older generations of Mandalorian Armour from the Old Republic era & before. Like Sabine, is evolving armour not a part of Mandalorian tradition & history too?

If only the Mandalorians knew Disney would canonize and retcon "Cortosis" to a "Gawd Mode" metal they would have simply used a Beskar and Cortosis laminate, or alloy for their armor. Not only would they bounce blaster bolts, they would also negate Jedi/Sith light-sabres and be protected from Force power thought manipulations.

This wildly illogical. It would be an utter waste of Beskar to use it in armor that didn't even protect the user. It would be better to outfit 1 in 10 Mandalorians with pure Beskar armor than to put 10 Mandalorians in 10% Beskar armor.

Mandalorian’s are a race. Madalore is the planet. From which Beskar the type of Iron is found. All Madolorian Soldiers including Warriors, Blademasters, Scouts, Marauders, Commandos, Super Commandos, Gunslingers, Blademasters Jedi Hunters & Captains wore it for over 4000 years before BOY. Quartermaster’s did to hence The Armour in the Disney Mando show. Quartermaster were Mando Commanders.Hence in Imperial times it’s now rare, because they ruled the mines on Mandalor, restricting its use. Remember armour protection does not mean invincibility.

Nah im pretty sure bo katan has 100% pure beskar armor and she was in death watch, the shit is inconsistent. Honestly those Mandos never shouldve gotten one shotted. Most Mandalorians inherit their armor. This durasteel-beskar shit is a bunch of bullcrap. Why make it durasteel-beskar if its gonna work like duraplast stormtrooper armor? Makes zero sense.

​@@iivin4233Because duraplast does protect you. Most of the time stormtroopers survive the wound of a common blaster rifle or pistol and just need some medical treatment. It's also really inexpensive to make so they use it for standard issue troopers.

You do know they can always reforge their armor right? Most likely when someone inherits armor it's reforged or goes through some process to resie it to the inheritor. Very likely Bo had Beskar armor, or maybe in time due to her status was cultrally able to get a pure beskar set of armor, liek how Dinn Djarin got his either fully replaced or reforged into full beskar armor once he earned it. beskar is still a very rare metal, so every bit of it is culturally important to the Mandolarians, they don't just let anyone use it. Just look at Dinn when he got Boba' armor, Boba had to prove the armor was his, then Dinn gave it to him. Din wouldn't let Cobb Vanth keep it since he wasn't Mandolorian.

@TheZamaron no one would reforge their armor to the point of sacrificing the integrity of the beskar that would be very un mandalorian like. Also the culture that din djarin was raised in is a very different isolationist sect of mandalorians they got fucked by the republic and went into hiding and if bo katans people had found them they would've been killed. So yes Boba had to prove but he would've had to to anyone even if a non mando held it.

In original story , Mandalor was destroyed after revan defeated the leader, "Mandalor" and revans apprentice activated the mass Shadow generator which cracked the planet. Ending the Mandalorian wars. Disney doesn't do them justice, the fall short of what they should be.

Beskar alloy is as effective as plastoid stormtrooper armor Someone with a lot of money could just buy few beskar alloy mando sets(or hire mercenaries to get them), and forge pure beskar or nearly pure armor. Empire was super rich so they could afford to give beskar armor to their best units like Deathtroopers

Not really, there was never any mention or evidence that is said in this video. We do however, know that blaster is capable to penetrate the armor with the right calibration (source: Jedi Fallen Order). So the clones in the Siege of Mandalore probably knew the right calibration to penetrate it, the same can be said with the Mandalorian splitter group led by Bo Katan on the same battle. It is really well known that Mandalorian would get offended if their armor is made by other materials (Source: Star Wars Rebels: Heroes of Mandalore Part 2) Evidence: Gar Saxon imperial armor was able to withstand Ezra’s blaster (Star Wars Rebels: Imperial Supercommando). However, it cannot withstand Ursa’s blaster, which means Ursa probably knew the right calibration to penetrate it.

There's just 1 problem with this explanation. Boba uses a repainted and modified version of his father's armor. Jango's armor wasn't pure either, same goes for the majority of the Mando's we see throughout The Mandalorian yet their armor was able to shrug several blaster shots at the very least. While the theory is good, in practice it is unable to fill the massive inconsistency between Mando's from the Clone Wars/Rebels era and the Mandalorian era.

Can't work with pure beskar. It's an alloy, too. It's extremely difficult to work with which makes it more rare. It's heavier than other options, too. More than likely they weren't in beskar armor. Just like all armor, there are gaps and weak spots, also.
