God I relate to the whole "where's Mikey" situation, every single time I do a collab. It's so obnoxious how people assume I'm the one not inviting people when I try my best to be as inclusive as possible. When you work for weeks on a thing and people only care about who ISN'T included, and blame you, for some reason, it's disheartening. (especially when it's someone you did reach out to) People politely request the presence of other Poketubers, but MandJTV fans rudely demand Mikey's presence.

This broke my heart. Just to let you know, we watch you for you and your amazing content. Not Mikey’s love for Drowzee or Jack’s ungodly shiny luck, but your creative and enjoyable content that brings us all so much joy. Don’t feel that we only want more Mikey or more Jack, we just want you to make the content you want to make because no matter what you do, you make it so much fun. Just let your content be how you want it to be and don’t worry about the restrictions of having two friends that aren’t friends. Yeah, he was the cheesecake to their strawberry or cream. They both are special and extravagant when eaten alone but with John it was a whole meal. He is just the grounded wholesome meal in this analogy. I watch all three of them. Jack looses himself in his short term videos and insanity, mikey looses himself in his routines and more often his own head, but john is always just chilled, grounded and goodhearted content. There is a reason why he is the first one to talk freely about this.

Some people just don't pick up on hints or social cues. The trio videos were amazing and special but even during those videos it is BLATANTLY obvious that Mikey and Jack don't click. There were times where Jack would do something goofy or dumb like he does that we all love him for and Mikey wouldn't even so much as smirk. Mikey is more reserved and serious and he and Jack just don't click. I'm super proud of them and glad they handled it maturely and just moved on with everything. Much respect. My thoughts exactly, like I’m not the best at reading social cues, but them getting on each others nerves was pretty clearly not just a bit to me. I’m sure it was played as one and played up as an actual joke sometimes, but i remember watching videos and being like ‘I don’t think that’s actually a bit, mikey kinda seems genuinely upset’ (and there were probably points for Jack like that too I just didn’t know him as well) When trio videos stopped i assumed something happened and they decided to stop working together. It really sucks johns had to go through all this because of people not being able to make a simple assumption and let things go. He doesn’t deserve this harassment over something out of his control

It's incredible how many people think friends have to be attached at the hip and do everything together. In the TTRPG space (D&D and the likes) its pretty common to hear the advice "hey, maybe you are all friends but how you want to play the game is fundamentally at odds. If that is the case, continue being friends, but split the table." I always assumed that this was what happened to them, that the way they play this game is so different to each other that, despite everyone loving the game itself, playing together wasn't fun. We now know that it wasn't the case, but it boggles my mind that people would skip past this conclusion over 2 years and just go "why aren't you making this happen?"

Having two people not mesh well within a friend group is always a hard thing to figure out. You want to spend time with both of them but it feels like you have to pick and choose who to be with at any point. Something I've kinda learned is to really not try to force it. I feel like the way you guys handled it was absolutely the correct way. I've had a couple friends where I kept trying and it just made it where instead of them silently going their different ways it instead ended with hostility between them. Some people just don't mesh well, and that's okay. It's especially difficult when it's a group of 3 where you can't really isolate yourself at all. It's easier if it was something like a party with 10 people where they don't really need to interact much. I've felt overwhelmed with a lot of this sort of stuff and I don't have hundreds of commenters constantly pestering me about it. When the trio videos stopped I just kinda figured "oh I guess they just stopped making them" and kind of left it there. Figured maybe Jack was busy or you and Mikey wanted to focus on JMC. It sucks that it had to come to a point where a video needed to be made just to discuss it. Sometimes people just disagree or just don't get along and that's perfectly fine.

It's super unfortunate to be a people pleaser watching your friends do well, knowing you aren't doing the same. I have defended this matter before to as much extent as I can, even before this upload. Jack had actually spoken out about what had happened between him and Mikey very briefly on his Instagram. When you posted the trailer for your 24 hour stream on Twitter, I replied to a few comments and let them know what had happened (to the best of the knowledge I had prior to your clarification) and tried to respectfully, and quietly, get less attention focused on the Jack and Mikey stuff. But John, I hope you read this, as I am sincerely a huge fan of all three of you. I relate to you, however, the most. Your content is just fine without the two of them, it's just fine with the both of them. You have nothing to prove to the haters who will only ask for Jack and Mikey content. Being a middle man between the three of them is an awkward situation: only magnified by the group who only use you for extra content from either person. Being there is understandably tough and I really, really appreciate this video giving us a closer look at how things kind of felt behind the camera: all while retaining respect to your friends. Even if your channel itself isn't doing too well publicly, just remember there are a bunch of people here who genuinely appreciate your content and what you do, without the need for collabs, pleasing others, or whatever other thing people demand. I also want to add to this in case you see this John. Keep in mind that people like the videos with you and Jack/Mikey BECAUSE you are there too. People like seeing friends have fun together. And they like it A LOT. Let me give an example that you might recognize from the perspective of an audience rather than your perspective as a creator: Markiplier Makes videos. Markiplier makes are videos where Mark, Ethan, and Tyler make various things (often food with no recipe, but sometimes they build stuff) and they have fun as friends. These videos are great and average around 10 million views. His solo videos average around 3 million views. Tyler and Ethan have less followers than Mark does (and no shade to them, theyre all great) so its not like people are only there to see Tyler or Ethan. People just like seeing them all together having fun. Its the same thing with your collabs. People want to see you together having fun, not because they want to see people who arent you. And i know it can feel like that the way people in the comments talk, but if you ask them WHY they are so eager to see such collabs and they answer honestly they arent going to say "because i want to see more prplclf" theyll say that "when you guys are together you seem to have a lot of fun and its fun to watch." Try not to take it personally.

And to A never put them together again, or B stay clear of particular subjects whenever one or the other is near.

@@DrawciaGleam02 As a 10 year teacher, I definitely saw some signs of two people I would not put together in a "group " for any real long-term situation. Mikey, I find, tends to want things done in a very methodical way and with clear reasoning, while Jack is a bit more of a jump with two feet and kinda see what happens. The "chaos" that Jack can bring (while very enjoyable and he has made it definitely work for him) is very opposite to what it sounds like Mikey expects. John is such a lovely, easygoing personality that he blends well with both energies. Again, they are three very smart, enjoyable, and effective people, but in the long term, I can see why the two can rub each other in the wrong way. And of course, I don't know these people, but that is just based on what I have seen over the years of watching all three.

I have two "friends" in my college who just mostly ignore me, and whilst that doesnt parallel your situation at all really, hearing from another people pleaser that I can put myself first and that I shouldnt worry about how they'll react if it means I'll enjoy being at my college much more, as I have wanted to distance myself from them (especially one of them, the other one can be nice by himself) for a while, and haven't because I'm worried how that'll effect them. Honestly, I love whenever John gets a chance to interact with people he isn’t usually collabing with. Videos with Wolfey, Superblah, and the little interactions during Showdown tournaments (both the ones he competes in and the one he ran) are videos and streams I love to see. Not to say I don’t love the other videos, but John’s a really fun and enjoyable person to watch, and his interactions with people who aren’t Jack and Mikey feel just as special as the rest, and I love seeing them occur. I think I remember Shiny Catherine being a part of the Kanto thing (though her busy schedule at the time exhausted her from streaming), and I was super hyped to see the two of you in the same place. I look forward to what comes next in 2024!

While I’ve always wondered what did happen behind the scenes between Jack and Mikey, I never said anything and never bothered anyone about it. I remember Jack saying on one of his streams a while back of something like “people can be civil with each other, and not make content together”. He seemed to really have something on his mind when he said that, because people then and even now STILL ask about it. It honestly has gotten annoying for me to see as a viewer, so I can imagine what it’s like for you guys. People need to be as mature the creators mentioned in the questions, and just accept that people grow apart and move on. But no matter what, I’m still a big fan of all three of you guys. I was a Purplecliffe fan when he was on Twitch, and I remember being like “wait, Purplecliffe and Pokemen7 know each other and are friends!?!? My first experience with Jack was actually your collabs, I remember not really liking him because of the way he acted, especially with Mikey. And it’s not because “oh he’s a bad person” it’s just… they clearly don’t share any similar views. It always felt like they were at each other’s throats, even on camera. Once I watched Jack separately and with other channels, I really liked his content. It’s just the two don’t mesh well, and that’s something people need to understand. Yeah sure they may get along at first, but that’s just to be expected. Someone’s true colors don’t show until later into the relationship. As someone who went through drama within my friend groups which caused some people to never speak with each other again, I understand that feeling. But to have hundreds of people looking at it and going: “HEY WHY AREN’T YOU INTERACTING, WHY WONT YOU COLLAB AGAIN?”, ugh I can’t even begin to imagine how much pressure that would be. People have lives outside of the screen and others seem to just forget that. Maybe it’s possible you could have someone new on the channel that Mikey or Jack could click with or just new collabs in general. Mixing it up can possibly get you out of that funk and there’s a lot of potential with the people you chose for the Kanto challenge

Trust me when I say that the people who disagree with their decision or feel like they can blame you just don’t understand really how this works. The fact that Mikey and jack can decide not to stay upset that they can step back and realize that they need to end the friendship takes a much bigger person than anyone understands. As someone who’s often found themselves in the middle of two great people who just didn’t get along with each other, or grew apart over time, I’m proud of you for not trying to “fix” things. It’s natural that not all people will get along, and trying to force folks to be friends when they just don’t click will only strain the friendship between them even more, and turn you into the group’s therapist (which is never a good situation to be in)! We're about the same age and you've reached a similar point to me in some friendships. One thing I've learned over time through my friendships is that sometimes friendships are temporary. And that's okay. People grow and change. And just cause you and another person don't click together to be or stay friends doesn't mean one of you is "wrong" or "bad". This was a very deep video to make, John. I was wondering where Mikey and Jack have been, and this video answered that in the most unexpected way, I'm kinda sad to hear they really don't interact much anymore. I'll always be subbed if you're alone or you have collabs! It's really heartbreaking to see that the majority of people don't wanna see solo videos, KZbin channels almost always start out as a solo project and collabs/more creators usually follow after. To think that someone who started out by himself now relies on collabs due to the audience's interests is kinda wild.
