All that needs to be said is that it is "Mrs. Thatcher" and "Sarah Palin". Hitchens' use of language was about as good as it gets. Sure, class standing plays into it but I think the point is intended and not just robotic.

Palin is physically attractive without any doubt, however she is indeed bereft of any charisma. Thatcher was a somewhat intelligent woman; Palin could not be afforded such a description. The most accurate description of Palin I have ever heard was written by Hitchens, when he describes her as: "a deceiving and unscrupulous woman utterly unversed in any of the needful political discourses but easily trained to utter preposterous lies and to appeal to the basest element of her audience".

Well, that massive gut isn't sexy. Neither is his mind at this state. Giving up Socialism, rather than seeking to slightly redefine it, is absolutely Unforgivable. Hitchens gave up. He probably believed a lot of the Iraq War stuff, I agree with him on most of it. But, mostly, he sought debate, in the waning years of his life no less, debating against an invisible child's friend and the thing that gives adults a slight amount of pleasure when they die.

When she was in power I was too young to properly appreciate what she meant in terms of politics but now I'm much older I can see just how unfair and divisive her policies really were. Even now in parts of Northern England the economic effects of her policies are still felt.

Thatcher's politics aside she is a smart, capable woman with massive amounts of personality and strength. She's very traditional and proper as well. These trait make her instantly attractive, at least from a character viewpoint. I am a conservative but don't rate Palin highly - she's not very well educated it seems. And she doesn't have the force of personality of Thatcher. Few American women do have Thatcher's strength, wit or style...few British women do either!
