Id like to believe Ragnos saw Vitiate as a possible heir to his power after his death as he even told Tenebrae that when he died let the other lords get sucked in the power vaccuum and wait for his opportunity to take control which Vitiate listened and did exactly that. So Ragnos literally laid the seeds for the rise of Vitiate's Sith Empire.

While I originally wanted to believe that too, after careful consideration I don't think Marka Ragnos and Vitiate ever had a collaborative effort in mind. Vitiate used the Sith as a means to an end throughout his life, and he had apparently lost favor with the Ancient Sith Lords, including the likes of Ragnos and Sadow. The latter of whom Vitiate neutralized with his Sith infiltrators, sealing Naga Sadow's tomb a hundred years before his Reconstituted True Sith Empire returned to the known Galaxy, so that his only remaining enemies would be the Jedi and Galactic Republic. As for Ragnos, he tried in vain to support a counter-candidate to Vitiate in the form of Exar Kun. Quoting from Jedi Master Gnost Dural, the Exar Kun War Holorecord: "We can learn much of Exar Kun's story. Of greatest interest is simply the fact that he was not aligned with the Sith Emperor, in exile on Dromund Kaas. The fact that the Spirits of the Ancient Sith Lords supported Exar Kun suggests that they did not, and perhaps do not, support the Sith Emperor we face today."

It’s bitter sweet that the only real glimpse we get of Marka Ragnos is just the opening pages of Tales of the Jedi and then later has he manifests to Exar Kun and Ulic Queldroma some 1000 years later. Would love a prequel to really see his rule during the Golden Age of the Sith, and yet I feel like that would ruin the mystery of his legendary character.

Ragnos and the ancient Sith I think master the art of Ruling and while the Baneite Sith grew to scheme and use corruption they never truly learned to rule the actual galaxy. Sidious was happy pursuing power but once he got it he didn’t really think any further.

Well, considering how powerful Naga Sadow was, he still didn’t dare challenge Ragnos. Ragnos recognizing Vitiate’s potential is awesome. Even better, is how Ragnos tricked Freedon Nadd into recruiting Exar Kun, knowing full well that Kun would destroy Nadd. Interestingly, Sidious never mentioned Ragnos, at least not directly.

The one Sith (aside from maybe Pall, and Krayt to a lesser extent) that avoided infighting by a) Enforcing it with his sheer power (Vitiate laying low, putting Sadow+Kresh & Kun+Quel-Droma in their place AFTER his death) and b) Leading by example, leaving Simus alive. No elaborate scheme like the Army of Darkness or the Rule of Two needed and always hands on, unlike Valkorion, allowing all the infighting in the world and then wondering why nothing gets done.

Vitiate will always appear to be the strongest because of all the insane feats of power associated to him, but then maybe Marka Ragnos was so above everyone else that he didn't even need to destroy them or seek ways to augment his powers, he was literally a giant in a world of microbes

I was gonna say... I dont think he rewarded power out of any sense of nobility... He was improving his tools. And thats what they were to him. Tools. Not things the even consider fearing. If the old cannon was the case(In my head it is) he spans from before Vitiate till after Palpatine, and while it gave the impression he could have been destroyed, it remained unclear if he had in fact been destroyed even then, or simply banished yet again to some diminished shade state..... Exar kun was the true sith lord of Marka ragnos lineage, Marka ragnos and freedon nadd are the only sith lords to die only of age , Ragnos ignore plagueis and papaltine when they visited korriban and deemed them as not worthy of his time, ragnos was indeed very powerful since luke Skywalker say if ragnos returns he will be too dangerous

Another notable feature of Ragnos, neglected in the video, is that he was over 300 years old when he died. For three centuries no Sith ever challenged him; and this was at a time when there were thousands of Sith; the most treacherous and power hungry sect in Galactic History. To preside over so many Sith for three centuries unchallenged is a feat unreplicated ever again. Even Vitiate had his occasional detractors; whom you can find their tombs on Dromand Kaas. Darth Revan probably being his most famous detractor.

Because marka ragnos is legends all and everything about the sith lord is canon within this discussion; marka ragnos was challenged by darth simus for the his throne- then his entire time as dark lord was challenged by thousands of unnamed sith- and he became skilled at pitting them against eachother to the point his control brcame so absolute it became unchallenged- further ragnos spirit saw tavions actions as a challenge to his rule and he possessed the woman to test her mettle against jaden korr.

I love the videos. I think you could pull off a major series (a lot of info to gather) and tell the entire story of Star Wars. Each episode telling more and more. I get there are 2 areas of the stories. Like what's in Legends continuity. But even picking one and tell the history of the galaxy far far away. Or even make split videos that tell the different directions the different continuities go at certain points in time where they would vary. Just spit ballin here lol. The one True Emperor of the Sith. Vitiate the Psychopath betrayed his own Empire. Palpatine the Narcisist was blindsided by his own apprentice. Krayt the Zealot sabotaged himself trying to force his vision on the galaxy. Only Marka Ragnos was powerful and cunning enough to keep his Empire under control, and wise enough to at least try to shepard it's future by encouraging successors like Naga, Ludo, Exar, and Ulic rather then clinging to power beyond his time.

Marka Ragnos came from a really different time in Star Wars. It's hard to guage his powers since the (comic) books had a lot of dark side empowered ships and artifacts but the use of powers was far more restrained in those golden age of the Sith stories. Still, given his rein over other very formidable lords in their own right, he should at least be an equal to Vitiate or Palpatine in knowledge if not raw power.

It isn't that Sidious came back; he did that in Legends, too. But Marka Ragnos was incredible powerful with a vast knowledge of Sith alchemy and magics, who used them to create a Scepter with nearly unparalleled power, and was so revered that other Dark Siders dedicated themselves to his revival by syphoning Force Energy from people and places to infuse into him. Meanwhile, Sidious returned "somehow." Offscreen, too; no build-up or warning. That is what people didn't like.

Im not saying it isnt conceivable in a diagetic sense. It just seems like it was a last resort to avoid doing anything risky or interesting with the villains "people didn't like that Snoke was just a hologram in the first film and a rich man in a dressing gown who died in the second, we don't have time to replace him and we don't want to make Kylo Ren intimidating, lets just bring back the original villain from the first six films" it's basically admitting defeat to the conflicting expectations of the fans. I adopted many of the complaints about TLJ that others did when watching it, (except I liked the stuff with Rey and Luke and wished it had more time/focus) however I have come to appreciate that Johnson was trying out taking the films in a different direction. Then the writers of TRS went back on that idea, like a bunch of cowards. Like, dude, please at least *try* to tell a thematically consistent story. It doesn't all have to be about the dozen or so people from the original trilogy and their extended families. Normal unrelated people should be the heroes as well. I've heard Andor is good for this although I haven't seen it.
