Tbf he’d have gotten screwed over, Hollywood accounting would fudge the gross profit of that film to the main studio down hundreds of millions diverting that to smaller companies the studios own as subsidiaries (anything from makeup, CGI, filming, equipment anything which is done would be down on paper as profit for a different company from the main studio) so he would have made nothing close to $290 million at all, still a lot but the biggest studios screw Actors with those deals On paper, infinity war was a loss for Disney but that’s only “on paper” from the main studio but there was countless, literally countless, small “separate companies” owned by Disney to ensure nobody but Disney would earn anything from the profits, like any comic writers who negotiated a percentage of their characters are used Forest gump too, the writer of the book chose percentage cut to money out right and got absolutely screwed through this kind of accounting, making less than 10k for one of the greatest films of all time being made from his story. Matt Damon didn’t turn down nearly as much as you’d think

If it was "the profits", Mr. Connery made a smart decision. Hollywood accounting means most movies never turn a profit, despite raking in millions upon millions. @@bimmerdude7158 While I've not followed the financial side of LOTR, that's great news if that's what was officially recorded and they played it straight. But historically, it's not the norm. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was offically recorded as a 167 million dollar "loss" from WB. Return of the Jedi grossed almost half a billion in ticket sales, but the actor who played Darth Vader (the man, not the voice) never got his share of the 'profit' because of Hollywood Accounting. There's a big difference between being worth $170m, and being worth nearly a half a billion. It's the difference between charting private planes, versus purchasing your own plane. To put it in perspective, if he took $170m and invested it at a standard compounding rate, he would be worth $1 billion by the time he's about 90. That is why they are called “Moral”. What’s moral it’s priceless… you can not buy it but sets the standards for a life welled lived. It also gives you the power to ask the people that surround you to do the same thing. How can you live a life without trusting anybody. Not everything can be bought. And that is good to know. He sure “lost” almost 300 millions dollars but he gained the respect of Cameron, how many other proyecta like Avatar are in the future ? Nobody knows and certainly the people that he had committed all along and did not get let down for “money” know what a legend is. You need to live your life and make sure your standards are met, if they are not, nobody is going to remember you as somebody with “Integrity”. That gives you peace of mind.
