The problem is that the Leafs are very thin on left wing. At least Engvall produced some offence . He was never replaced. Maybe Knies can help at some point but not likely this year.

Because Martin is on the ice and he is one of the Islanders that does all rhe heavy hitting along with a number of other islanders. Engvall can just disappear on this team. On the Leafs he was another player, despite his size that never played with any physicality like Nylander, Matthew's, Reilly, Marner, Tavares, etc...Engvall says these guys make 8 million plus, I'm making 2 million. Why should I bust my ass?

That’s a terrible attitude to have lmao. If you make significantly less that means nothing. You’re a professional and you need to do what you can to help the team. The leafs didn’t need Engvall after picking up lafferty, Acciari, O’reilly. I like Engvall but he was way too inconsistent, guy was awesome when he tried and garbage half the time.

@@jdpbk93 I agree with you, but that is only my opinion. I'm just surmising that is how Engvall may have looked at it. You will agree though that many of the leafs do not play with much physicality. And yes I agree with you, the players they have picked play with that physicality now it is up to the likes of pretty boy Matthew's for one to Puck up his physical play. It's not like he is 5'9" 165 lbs yet he plays like it some of the time

@@laurarebel6282 Forgot to mention this as well but man, Matthews has truly elevated his game to a true two way Centre. Not sure how much you’ve watched but he uses his body very effectively along the wall and back checks like there’s no tomorrow. He hasn’t been an issue lmao.

Engvall wasn't appreciated by Leaf fans. Not many 3rd line wingers in todays "dump and chase" hockey can actually carry the puck zone to zone like Engvall. Wish him well, and believe he should receive a "nice" contract as a UFA.

Isles drafted him. He move on to Toronto and played while Lou was GM and followed him back to LI to reunite the MM, CC, CC line. They are great at shutting down top lines around the league. Being back with them is what makes Matt so effective.

@@bobhenry6159 He’s talking about Pierre Engvall. Engvall ended up being a great pickup. Hudson Fasching was also an under the radar signing that paid off big time. Engvall had 9 points in 18 games with the Islanders, Fasching had 19 points in 49 games. The Islanders wouldn’t have made the playoffs without Engvall and Fasching.

I love how when players play for the Leafs they’re “overrated” and “not good”. The second they get traded they become “amazing” and “great” players. It really amazes me how a team that has won nothing for over 50 years still manages to press and bother so many people to the point where they deliberately undervalue players on Toronto. 😂 Talk about an inferiority complex. Engvall has the body, length and skating ability to be a really good player. New York will find out the hard way, like Vancouver did with Mikhayev.
