Engineering the PERFECT ISLAND CITY in Islanders!

Using the power of engineering I upgraded a small island into a utopia of engineering. This super chilled city building strategy game was recommended to me after playing Dorfromantik, and I really really enjoyed Islanders slightly different take on the genre.

Wanna know the specifics?
The gameplay of ISLANDERS is pretty intuitive. You start with a set of buildings in your inventory that you can place on your island. Placing buildings is rewarded with points. The amount of points you get depends on what surrounds the buildings when you place them. Gather enough points to refill your inventory and unlock new buildings.
Once your city is big enough you may choose to travel to the next island (they are generated procedurally, so you can literally keep exploring forever). If you run out of buildings the game ends. This is where you high five yourself for beating the high score, take a proud last glance at the epic city you've built and start just one more round...

Some important tips: separate houses and mansions into two cities because they benefit from different things. Also, wall plateaus can fit temples on them and if you do it right you can get a temple on top of a city

Also, points are NOT symmetric! City center gets zero points from houses and mansions, but they get loads of points for the city center.

@@DavidGuild It's crazy to me that Matt didn't realize this considering the point values are in the tooltips themselves. When he went to place down a spare City Center, he was convinced it was "worthless" and just put it out on an island by itself, but it gives MASSIVE points when you set things up near it. Just crazy. Read the god damn tooltips man!

The houses do get extra points if you put them next to a city center- it might not be the other way around but there’s definitely a bonus

Houses get a bonus from city centers, city centers do not get a bonus from houses. Ideally you want to place the city center in an spot where it will get the bonus from the monument, and have room for houses/mansions to be built around it

@@RealCivilEngineerGaming It's surprising how much you can learn in such a chilled-out game. Certain things you learn over time like how far to space out buildings or what order to place them in. If I could give you 3 tips: 1 - keep your houses and mansions separate, certain buildings will have a + for one but - for the other (like circuses and jewelers) 2 - Tesselate your buildings for *MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY* 3 - You can place the last building on an island without getting a game over if you unlocked the next island. It gives you a chance to look around and appreciate your work. Loving your content and this game :)

Honestly I think the tutorial was fine. The game itself gives enough feedback you can do it all without it holding your hand. It just politely let's you learn while giving assistance as needed.

Seems you still need to learn about the order to place the buildings. Placing the citycenter first to mark the actual city center gets you more points for the buildings. also I like to keep mansions and houses separate since there are things that prefer one over the other

A few tips if you want to continue with this game (which is amazing btw) You need to put the temple on top of the platform and surrounded by houses for a maximum score. Segregate houses from mansions. so you can put the tavern and the circus close and earn a huge amount of points. And at the same time keep the mansions close to the gold mine for another huge amount of points with thee jewelery. Once you get the dinamics it's a great game.
