That is true. Also, I have no idea why people hate on medieval 2 battles. Units were advertised to act as "realistic". They moved away from Rome where cavalry would obey your commands in seconds and one general unit could demolish entire armies. And I loved that "realistic" approach because battles and units felt as if they had "weight". Battle lines clashing into each other felt great, unlike modern TWs where it feels like paper models battling each other.

Medieval 2 is up there as one of my favourite ever games, and a remaster would be an instant purchase for me. I just hope they wouldn’t change the UI like they did in the Rome Remaster. That made the game borderline unplayable for me unfortunately.

UI change is a must, but obviously not like the one in Rome Remastered. A UI change should make the game more accessible, not less accessible. It should make it easier to play around with, and medieval 2 could use that

I really hope whatever is going on that they are not too deterred from doing anything with Med 2 because Rome Remastered should be a learning experience for them on how to do that better.

This is seriously what I'm waiting for. Medieval III I think will flop at worst and disappoint at best. Medieval 2 had the best battles, sieges and economy. Seeing one of your cities interconnected with the world and all its trade was seriously underrated especially when it started bringing 5k plus a turn.

Imo it had great battles and the best economy, but the sieges were ATROCIOUS. Its just blob central meatgrinder imo. Sieges can be really fun but thats just from seeing castle walls fall from cannons or trebuchets or whatever

CA is not capable of delivering Medieval Total War game that could meet our expectations. They abandoned too many great mechanics from older engine such as interactive campaign map, population, unit upgrading, etc. etc.

Rome remastered was a great remaster. The problem is that Rome TW itself has things that are missing and is clunky by it's very nature. Med 2 is essentially taking Rome TW and improving all of it's drawbacks and as an end result you get the best TW game ever made. When they announced Rome remastered, all I could think about was, God I hope they remaster med2. If in the end they do decide to do it, we could be in for a new golden age of med 2 modding.

Rome Remastered is amazing. Honestly a lot of idiots review bombed it because they were being autistic over the launch UI. They need to review bomb the trash CA games and not the great Feral remasters. If you don't have the $40 USD then just don't buy it. NO need to screech about the price. I still love building system from Rome 1 and Medieval 2. I don't know why they changed it later on... Still, I am not more into battles because for me it is all the same thing just different skins. I am more into complicated campaign map, trade, diplomacy, spying etc... and I hope for a 3K quick deal system for diplomacy.

They could make battles more fun if they somehow make satisfying siege battles, navy battles and extend the map so we could have completely different plays types(European knights, mongol horde, Japanese samurai and etc) and maybe even do two or three medieval games and combine them later. Medieval 3: Europe and medieval 3: Asia which also has a combined map with Europe and medieval 3: Americans which also has combined map with Europe and Asia. But these are the things they historically have sucked at fixing and in all honestly, they never got it exactly on point even at their best. They should also make City buildings more satisfying to watch, like for example we could see cities live like we did in Rome 1 but way better and etc and it's not just bunch of icons. Lastly, I want more meaningful events and characters. More rpg style character building with unique traits and titles that could be swapped along with upgrading weapon and etc even at some cost of it not being entirely historically accurate. I don't think any of these will happen in potential medieval 3 but I can dream.

As much as there is I dont like about 3K the campaign was going in the right direction qua depth. Also WH3 has some factions with unique mechanics which are kinda cool so it shows they have the possibility to do something good for MTW3. But yeah nah they probably wont

Battles were fun for me but after all these years,I usually auto resolve when I can. Newer titles like 3K and Troy has better auto resolve than older ones. One more plus.

They changed it in Empire TW because they implemented the "village" building mecanic. Basically, with region growth, villages would start popping on it, and each village allowed for more building construction. With the old Building management, it was impossible to balance, so they put limited construction slots in the "region capital", which were then compensated by village growth allowing you to construct more buildings. But then they scrapped the "village growth" mecanic and kept the new building management...

After reading many of thr comments, im glad to see most of the community together on both wanting a Med2 remaster and a Med3... i do worry with the direction they are going Med 3 would completely disappoint me. Here i am 29 years old finding myself nostalgically going back to Med2 with all the dated looks and feels but its the GOAT. I love everything about that game and its many little details. Im so very thankful for the people who worked on the mods for that game too. Id still play vanilla but just the stuff stainless steal and other mods added was enough to keep me hooked on this game for so so long!

I would also like to see the MTW 2 Remastered go back to the original format of the original MTW with the option to start in three different eras. This allowed so much replayability that no other game has managed to match.

Agreed. The Stainless Steel mod for Medieval 2 adds the Early or High Middle Ages campaign options and it adds a lot to the game. I remember Medieval 1 and I must say at the time I much preferred the way Medieval 1 handled my favourite faction the Byzantines vs Medieval 2.

@@MsSirAndy I think if Feral meant they are not doing anything for a new remaster of Med 2 they might be remastering the first two TW titles because they are very similar to one another and would the easiest to upgrade and add to due to their age and simplicity. I would like this because they are by far the most underrated titles in the series and bringing them to a new audience would be a godsend to newer people who's PCs cannot handle such old games anymore. If not that then when Feral said they intended not to Remaster Med 2, they meant that instead they are going to Remake it, take the same engine and upgrade it but improve on far more than just graphics and add more features to vanilla while greatly expanding the modding potential.

@@rorschach1985ify I may want to agree but there is one illogical premise in the first theory.. If a remaster is preceded by a mobile port, then they are hardly working on Shogun 1 and Medieval 1 remasters directly right now since mobile ports are not out yet. More likely, they are working on med2 remastered while hiding it to avoid spoilers while developing or planning Shogun 1 and Medieval 1 mobile, unless they are planning to disrupt the pattern for other old games. Regarding the second remake option, I wouldn't rule it out but it seems very unlikely since costs would be too high with a high degree of risk and resources spent (unlikely for such a small studio) and at this point better go make Medieval 3. Overall, Medieval 1 and Shogun 1 have very good chances of being remastered at some point. These are my points, feel free to disagree and correct me where I am wrong.

@@MsSirAndy I think with how archaic the first two titles are it would not be out of line to say when remastering them Feral could port them both to pcs and mobile. If they can port Rome 1 and Med 2 to mobile it should be far less strenuous to do the same to older titles. As for Med 2 Remake being too expansive and redundant from a Med 3, I disagree because Med 3 would be a sequel, not a remake and would feature almost none of the features or even use the same engine. A Remade Med 2 would be more like taking the same game and adding on and changing certain things while keeping it the same. Compare the Remakes for Resident Evil or Dead Space where the plot and gameplay is mostly the same but there are small changes here and there that make it a different experience even if it is similar enough to not be an entirely different game.

I would definitely like to see a Medieval 2: Remastered release, and I would be willing to pay for it. The mods that currently exist are, as you said, some of the best in the franchise history. I would like to see many of the features from Rome Remastered especially the ability for unlimited factions and a much larger number of regions on the map. I would also like to see updated graphics more in line with the current CA games. Medieval 3 would be great too, but after seeing Troy and Pharaoh, I don't think it will ever happen.

I think they wanna squish out of us as much as they can before Med 3 release. You wpuld never pay for reskinned Troy (Pharoah) if you had the option to buy Med 3 before. Smart and greedy move by them.

Tbh there are other things I want before a Medieval 3... Pike&Shot, Victorian era, or both of those combined in a glorious, massive Empire 2. I'd be happy to take a Med 2-remastered first, and then only after having explored other things I would maybe like a Med 3. The thing is, I think Med 2 had enough things right that I don't need it revised in a completely new game. Just fixing the bugs and updating the graphics, plus new features along the line of (if not better than) Rome remastered, I think would sate my need for more Medieval total war-games

I've recently gone back to M2TW. Playing SSIHP. I'm so impress how so many stuff where just.... better. It should not be the case but it just better in so many aspect. Even with all the problem (monitor resolution not supported, regular CTD, mod management nightmare, etc. I always go back to it.

I don't know why but M2TW modded always has been hard on me, I feel like I experienced way more problem than the majority of other people. (TBH I'm most likely dumber than the majority of ppl, it should be the reason)

That's 1 of those that got overshadowed and mostly forgotten about unfortunately . Lot's of new NTW mods out there mostly unit/MP mods but no campaign map modding really holds NTW back, ETW as it had a global map isn't quite as bad.

Rome Remastered is alive and kicking, mostly due to the great native RR mods because of the removal of most modding caps and the porting of so many great Rome 1 mods. I think Med 2 should and will get ported as CA are never going to turn down that easy cash. But will CA remove most modding caps ? Med 2 mods are so popular even today, that if Med 2 Remaster happens that could jeopardize a Med 3 release .

I bought Rome remastered when released for 15 euro (had the original on steam so had a discount). First game ever I bought on steam personally and it was worth every euro. If Med 2 was remastered in the perfect form, I wouldn't mind paying even 60 for it.

Got it for $8 with the same deal, being in a poor region also helped to get a lower price. Loved it from day 1 and love it even more with all the great mods. Many complain about the bad UI, which was fixed very quickly by modders and i never found it to be a game breaker.

As someone who started with MTW1, and had a disc of RTW onbrelease, I adore the remaster. It's a joy, and makes me ache for Medieval 3. A remaster would at least solve the unbearably stretched UI on 16:9

Started with Shogun 1 and had discs for all the games that had them but sadly i've lost all of those. RR is a great addition and i'm sure we'll see a Med 2 remaster, i'm guessing by mid next year.

Actually, I think that even Empire and Napoleon remasters will be coming for sure (90% probabilyty) in my opinion. Even Shogun 1 and Medieval 1 have pretty decent chances (a good 50-80% according to my calculations) to arrive somewhen in the future. Do you agree? If Rome and Medieval 2 remaster sells well that would be a no brainer. My 2 cents!

I don't like much vanila MII, but it's strange that the battles in MII feel so good after all these years, also the battle maps are beautiful to my eyes. And you have some of the best mods ever, like Third Age (Fourth Age is even better). Could be a great choice to be the next remastered. After Medieval 2 comes Empire, of course.

I still prefer the original UI. But Rome Remastered was and is really good. The original Rome had this weird micro stutter on the campaign map for me on modern PC (I've tried on 3 different PC's), which gave me a headache so I couldn't play for long periods of time. The remaster works smooth and the more modern 3d camera in battles is making the soon 20 year old game even better:D A Medieval 2 remastered, where they hopefully keep the original UI, or make a new one which stays more true to the original UI would be amazing! But what deserves a remaster, or a proper remake the most is Empire as it is so ambitious and never reached its true potential.

Inbuilt garrisons (with proper units reflecting their overall strength and condition) and trickling replenishment, are two of the most redeeming features of the new games (along with in RTW2 the ability for units to utilise multiple different formations). Trickling replenishment and retraining shouldn’t be mutually exclusive though, in fact they’re two systems which could synergise very nicely indeed!

I wish for a Medieval 3, but after the warhammer and historical TW games ive witnessed i think its better to leave it be as it is and maybe do a small remastered DLC with better graphics voicelines, a few now Battles/Sieges and some features from rome 1, like watching your settlement at peace times aswell as a sort of button that turns new graphics on and off (like they tried at Warcraft 3 Reforged) and a general patch that gives the community better modding suppport, some bug fixes (like Pikeman being wierd) and a multiplayer support like they had in Rome 2 where you can fight your Campaign battles with the "enemy" or "gift" your friend that spectates your battle against the AI some Units to Control. And maybe start working on some form of DLCs, in Scenarios like the fuster cluck that was the HRE or "Russia", the Reconquista, or the early middle ages with the viking invasions/raids and the slowly encroching Arabic Calipate, or a sort of 30 Years war Scenario. Or might as well go completely Insane and make World Conquest a thing

We’re about 9 months on from the release of the kingdoms dlc release on iPad. It took around 18 months to release Rome Remastered after the release of Alexander dlc on iPad. And 6 months to release the modding tools. So we are looking at at least 9 months before a Medieval 2 remastered, maybe 15 months with modding tools.

The recruitment pool and armour progression (along with free garrison slots), along with inbuilt gore / unit filth. All served to really bring M2TW up and above Rome, along with the audio work, which was much better too, and the cutscenes. It was all simply amazing! My only hope for a remake would be that, given our modern systems. I’d love to see both Rome Remastered, and M2 remastered, allow for 30 unit armies. Also it would be good to have more control over choosing the next heir when a faction leader dies. This last thing are two features from MTW1 I’d love to see, though I accept it’s a stretch. Firstly “rank bonuses” for unit depth (particularly spearmen and pikemen for example), the other being separate buttons for “hold position” and “hold formation”. This would do wonders to also help getting phalangetes and spearmen to work properly in both titles (RTW & M2).

Guys like Red Zed have made lots of videos going into it and the recent changes coming to it in the beta that will be officially out in October are massive and overwhelming. Maybe they will after Hayenas CRASHES AND BURNS? Good on CA for trying to Diversify their Gaming Portfolio. But for god sake, a "cringey" Extraction shooter? That is a VERY NEISH and TOUGH market to get into these days. This isn't Alien Isolation, which from what iv heard was a grate horror game, that game had a franchise title which doesn't get many games in its universe. Regardless, CA would be unfathomably STUPID to not Remaster Medieval 2 at some point, given they remastered Rome 1. They even added Merchants to Rome 1 (a feature last seen in Medieval 2), why? Don't know but they did. Personally after Pharaoh has its run, it would be logical to make the Remaster of Med 2 and drop it head of (ideally) a Empire 2/Victorian Total War. Cus a Gunpowder game should be pretty easy to do, and one could be forgiven if the melee combat looks a bit shit given thats not the "focus". But for Medieval 3, oh boy they better work on that Unit Combat or its gonna be pretty BORING watching more BRICKS of men bang against each other till one of them runs away.

While I agree med2 needs a remaster, I think you and a lot of other people are getting remaster confused with remake. -A remaster is keeping as much of the original content of a game intact while improving things such as minor quality of life bugfixing and UI/graphical upgrades. That's what RR did with the extra bonus of more mod support. -A remake is where you take the original idea of a game and remake it into something new and fresh with lots of new content, changed features, etc. This is what you and a lot of other people seem to be wanting for MTW2, which would be a much larger (and by extent more expensive) project then RR. In addition I feel like the reason they made RR was lost on a lot of people as the original RTW was becoming increasingly unplayable on modern systems so it was either remaster it or let it die completely. Med2, by contrast still runs almost perfectly on most modern systems even when heavily modded. So there's no threat and thus no real need to remaster Med2 right now as the original is still in good shape when it comes to running well on modern systems and being a mostly stable experience.

Med 2 remaster would be great. I could play that while waiting for med 3. I mostly play warhammer but I dabble into the historical total wars from time to time. I agree they would need to give us some actual upgrades to the remaster for it to be worth it.

Although after all these years of using the Med 2 camera settings it would feel strange to use anything else. Do you have an idea of what's a fair price for a Med 2 Remaster ?

Let me tell you medieval 2 is one of the best games ever. And From it to Extend its Life came some of the greatest mods ever. However creative assembly is not the creative assembly of the past after they bought out. Passion gave way to greed. Love gave way to half assing it. If CA did it it would be a stain on it's legacy

Feral Interactive would be the 1 handling the Remaster with CA marketing it and probably setting the price. I think Feral would do a good job but i fear CA attempting to overprice it. Not much faith CA wouldn't mess up a Med 3 from start to finish.

I think that remastering Medieval 2 would be a nice idea. I really hope that the cold and kinda hated start that Rome Remastered had wasn't a reason for Feral to not do it. Also, a remaster of Empire would be pretty good. That game deserves way more love.

Haven't watched the video yet but still gonna be leaving my comment, might edit later. This game should TOTALLY get a remaster. Why? Because it still rocks. Most of its problems are due to of its age, which can easily be solved with a remaster, polishing visuals, improving the graphics and (more importantly) the resolution so it supports 1080P and 2k/4k better. It should have QoL changes and easier control with a better mod support and it's would be a good remaster this way. Obviously we also need a Medieval III. But let's be honest here, it won't be like Medieval 2. It's just the golden TW and that's ok. Medieval 3 shouldn't try to be a better Medieval 2, it should be the next best Total War game, whereas Medieval 2 will continue living, with a remaster.

Other than the issue of pikes, I really don't want anything changed in Med 2. I still feel the ui changes in Rome remastered should have been optional, and that's why I haven't bought it. I think CA should concentrate on Medieval 3, with naval battles, and a world map as big as Immortal empires in Warhammer 3.

@@akrav1983 I'm a bit annoyed that Pharaoh doesn't appear to have naval unless i've missed it. But then i'm not planning to buy Pharaoh for a long time. Troy didn't have naval either did it ? haven't played that in a long time. I think it had the similar feature as in Warhammer, if your army got attacked crossing the sea they would be deposited on an island and fight a land battle 🤔🤔

What really needs to happen before revisiting the Medieval period, is CA creating a different game engine entirely. The company have been anything but "creative" since Shogun II. The franchise looks tired and lacking any ingenuity in the actual battles which should be the core of the game.

Yes! Just new skins and maps would be great for remastered. But for MTW3, I think CA could finally bring the historical crowd over to the individual hero combat (which I personally don’t like) if they added a new mini-game for tournaments to spice up the peace eras, where the characters could joust and fight in gloriously rendered, region-flavored lists and improve traits and such.

the biggest problem with rome remastered was that it felt like a mobile game. I like that they try to meet their fans with a historical titielt with remastered and hope they come out with something similar too Medieval 2 . but think they renamed the mobile game and sold it as something else.

RTW>M2. M2 had extreme balance issues. Cavalry charges were either extremely underwhelming, or stupid op, because the unit mass was so linear. English longbows could melt anything, literally anything. The Agincourt Historical Battle showed this off pretty clearly. Some pole weapons had massive effect against cavalry, some didn't, and it made no sense which. Most of the factions of Europe felt almost exactly the same in infantry, and it meant that unit experience levels meant way too much endgame (a stack of 7-8 chevron units can kill essentially infinite of the same unit with no experience) because everything only had 1HP, and defenses were about a single hit or miss. It meant that, endgame, ANY general could be Richard the Lionheart, charging an entire army of cavalry with fewer than 100 knights and winning. Nothing could hit them, defenses got so high. Luckily mods fixed all of that pretty easily.

Nice video but you have to realise that a remastered only changes graphics, audio and maybe bug and if you really want to stretch the definition of remastered the you can include bug fixes and some minor gameplay changes and nothing more! Everthing more is called a remake. A lot of people dont understand or know this and have expectations which cant be fulfilled by definition.

He's plenty of materiel on the base of which a future Medieval 2 remaster could use the level of depth and detail already witnessed for Rome's

I dont want a Medieval Remaster like the one of Rome Total war: The only thing that changed was the graphic which unfortunately did not improve that much. Pathfinding was worse (at the start and now as good as in the old one) The Ai is still as stupid as in the original game. The new agent is basically just a nuisance. The new UI looks worse than in the old game... they made it so that the ai gives you the option to become a vassal of yours when they are basically defeated. However, this was implemented poorly(if you want to modify the proposal the ai will always reject because of old behaviour) Sure, modding options are better. At least something, but not good enough. ->For me, the remaster is not better or worse than the original game. ->When they make Medieval II, they should do it as a remake or a definitiv edition. I'm one of those people who actually loved the Total War Rome Remastered, ever since it came out till to this very day, I still play it from time to time and I had over 3.8k hours with almost getting all the achievements for it. I love both Rome Total War and Medieval II, and if they ever remaster Medieval II, I would definitely buy that in a heartbeat. Only thing that I'm sad about is that there's no Co-Op Campaign for Rome Remastered, its such a missed opportunity from them because I'm sure that would bring more sales .. but what do I know ..

Call me mental. I want to see M2TW remastered more than any other title (closely followed by an Empire/Napoleon one). However, I’d love to see them give this same treatment to MTW, the original one! 😂 Bigger armies (they’re sadly limited to 16 unit armies, going to 20 to 24, even 30 would be nice). Open up the limit for map provinces, get rid of some silly bugs (the “chinless wonder” bug, 56 ruler death bug, among others). Also the ability to add more cultures (languages for unit voices) as well. 👌

At this point I doubt they do it, but they made a more than capable engine with Rome Remaster, so modders would probably make Medieval II. I don't want remasters, I want a deeper Total War that it's not restricted by oversimplified mechanics, but also a game that is more complex than Medieval II and Rome... but I know CA will never do it because they're now aiming to casual players.

I think they are already working on new historic title because the WH3 fixes are so slow. CA Sofia is doing Pharaoh and I think they will give the Medieval 2 Remaster to the studio that did Rome 1 remaster. If they want to milk the most cash it can be in this order: - Medieval 2 remaster - Next major historical title - Next WH - Medieval 3 They can save Medieval 3 for bad times because that is their milk and safe cow. Hype will be unreal.

Personally if I was CA after pharaoh and Warhammer I would do releases in this order. - Medieval 2 Remaster, to generate interest and attention. - Next Warhammer dlc since it's a cash cow currently. - Medieval 3, make it to where it can be expanded easily. (Also throw in all of the new stuff that went over well with the community along with some older popular mechanics) - Alternate between Medieval 3 dlc and new historical titles. - If there is ever trouble expand the Medieval 3 map to include new regions and factions.

Honestly the Medieval mods for Attila are better than anything CA can do including this remaster, I don't plan on ever giving CA another dime. If CA does Medieval 3 and it expands to the age of exploration I would consider coming back, especially if they somehow put in the effort to take it to a new level in the spirit of the older games, but I just do not see it happening.

It's actually a conundrum of a question for me because of the MODS for Med2, all of those mods have a chance to get the ROME remastered mod treatment. I would love a Med 1 and Shogun 1 remastered because I wasn't there to experience that , My first total war game is Rome remastered. If they did remastered Med 1 instead of 2, they'll be backlash. But I'll be happy as duck because I get to experience Med1 In a perfect world, Med1&2 would both get a remastered and sold as a collection pack. Med1 for vanilla and Med2 for the mods.

I agree that it would be a blacklash if they do 1 instead of 2 first... but I think that Medieval 2 will be coming first, Medieval 1 (if it comes) would be next or maybe on the line after Empire, Napoleon and Shogun 1. That's the most logical scenario. They have to finish the more recent, demanded and popular titles first before going to the old two original games. It's a matter of priority, but that doesn't mean that Med1 and Shogun 1 will not happen. Actually, I think they will!

Just take everything from medieval 1+2, shogun 1+2, empire and napoleon, make a world map, they showed it'd be possible with warhammer and it dosen't have to be to scale, make it have a tech transition from late medieval, pike and shot, colonial era (empire), napoleonic era, up to mid to late victorian era. Fix and improve ai for maps, diplomacy and battles, add never before explored factions like china and korea or african kingdoms, and bring back the natives and south american tribes like the aztecs and incas while also adding small island kingdoms like hawaii that start off low tech but can advance into a "modern army" with their own cultural flavor (taking a page out of the indians in empire) and if they somehow become a proper empire they can davance to their version of a Napoleonic and victorian army (example shogun 2 fall of the samurai). Expand on diplomacy, trade and subterfuge; make it possible to make puppet states or tributaries, to be able to set tarrifs, trade embargos and tax increases or cuts to be used in diplomatic negotiations, be able to buy small peaces of land like ports and plantaitionsbwithout having to go to war and conquering it and through sociatal reasearch be able to make independent companies that you can toggle direct control or ai, and it makea its own militia and or patrol fleets for defence with a minorly diminished income so that one doesn't have to micro manage everything (that way you dont have to leave your warfleets in trade nodes), sell and buy tech and ideas but also contract colleges and churches to expodite research n conversion; and be able to insite rebellions on other nations through slave uprisings, religious/cultural separatist and ideological revolutions making it so you'd have to manage how many slaves you import/capture if not doing away with it entirely, how you convert and integrate conquered lands and as you advance social tech you make sure to implement govermental policies as to avoid civil wars if you dont have a big/strong enough army to stamp em down. Pirates to be playable can make their onw anrchych states and if they persist long enough they can become a proper nation. Keeep first persone view in a unit and artillery direct contro. Make it possible to pick your nations wife and/or mistresses, be able to rig elections or bribe a junta or something. If this is somehow hard to do for a multi million dolar game studio to make, then sell each era as a lone game and sell em 3 piece while adding dlc where they can be played together in a grand campaing map like total war warhammer 1 to 3. Or some more passionate indie team take my ideas and make your own total war like game, god knows yall can do better than corpos nowadays.
