TL; DR: I think that the playerbase would have been much more invested in the game if the characters were portrayed as actual characters with unique and interesting personalities, and the story was about them instead of some b*llshit dragged on mystery that didn't bring anything that much engaging to the table. But to be fair, that's an overall Mega Man problem, not exclusive from X DiVE. ----------- The thing is that X DiVE had the characters and waifus, but didn't bother much in actually letting you interacting with them. There's no character profile where you can see their bios with some interesting fact, there's no exclusive dialogue when you interact with them in the Hunter Base - in fact, there's NO interaction with the hunter base/characters AT ALL -, and they missed lot of opportunities to create interactions between the characters (in and out of events). I think that's a crucial part of any game that wants to make you stay for the characters. I unlocked quite a bunch of them, but as most of their playstyles are pretty similar and there wasn't anything interesting going on with them except for playing levels and watching their intro animation, I stopped getting excited for new characters. They shoul've went full on the FGO formula, where you can click on character profiles to read about their personalities (even Mega Man & Bass had something like that!), have affinity points, exclusive events and so on. But as RiCO herself said "they're not the characters, they're units", so I prefer playing a game where I can get to know them better and actually get invested in them. Some of my favorite interactions where from the Bride Event, the X-kai event and the Sigma conversation in the Final Stage. I wished we had more of that at least, but the devs seemed to be too afraid/have their hands tied. X and Mega Man; Zero, Zero (Z) and Aile; Roll and Roll.Exe; Bass and Bass.Exe; X and Doctor Light; X and Copy X; X and Volnutt; The Navigators and Ciel; Iris and Iris - Another, and so on... Really, this game had a lot of wasted potential. But let's hope for the better in the future.

I don't particularly disliked the new X-DiVE designs, in-fact, there were a lot pretty good ones. Not like this somewhat sexualized designs started with this game either, people just started caring about it now, cause it became much more common to draw attention to this stuff on social media nowdays. Never seen a soul complain about Leviathan. But I always felt like they were handicapping themselves and their creativity trying to fit some of the character design features from early X games, like the big limbs, which they even stated that they were only there on iCO's design to make her look more Mega Man-like. I feel like it would have been a better idea to have each of the Original Characters be inspired by different series. My main issue with the game was lack of balance in the progression through the story mode. They balanced everything for whatever was the average amount of power for long time players whenever a new piece of content dropped, so it just made a really slow grind for anyone else. And Fire Emblem can't even commit to being a Waifu Simulator either, cause that is one of the most censored franchises in modern gaming :v

Honestly I feel like a problem with MegaMan X Drive failing is because it was on the mobile devices and action platforms can't play well on the mobile devices. But unfortunately MegaMan is a dead up at this point that only exists in collections for older games and the fact that the mobile game died after what around 1-2 years just did more harm to the IP then most realize. Regardless who or what is to blame most mobile games off big IPs last much longer.

I've been playing since beta and still playing until EOS hits, I think the issue has to be the competitive power creep of the game, older characters get quickly powercreeped by newer characters; if you want to keep up with competitive PVP and competitive PVE events, you have to pull for new characters. They also held out on giving us new characters, instead opting for alts for existing characters. There's also the issue with the ZXA event, most fans weren't happy to get Aile 2.0, people wanted someone new to represent the ZXA event like Ashe/Grey, Vent, or Prometheus; instead we got Aile again with Vent, Ashe, and Grey's skills.

I often feel that the reason why Megaman falls short compared other IPs like Mario, Sonic and Fire Emblem; is the lack of personal connect. I don't think Megaman had to be go full waifu bait; but there does need to be more focus on characters, as well as more multiplayer content. If they made a Classic and/or X game where were are able to interact with the cast, add flavor text and cutscenes to flesh out the characters more. Fun stuff like X is secretly a painter or Roll's favorite musician is DeeJay from Street Fighter.

Yeah. In fact, ironically I think this also reflects pretty well on X DIVE. In theory, it was kind of the Mega Man game of my dreams (with all the characters from so many series being playable)! But then you unlock them, play with them for some time and...what now? I mean, every gasha game I have ever played before has some way to interact with the characters (giving some character descriptions, exclusive dialogues and events). X DiVE has none of that. Also, are you seriously going to put X and Mega Man in the same game in an non-canon story and give not even one interaction between them? I wanted to see an actual Hunter Base, where you could talk with different characters, have some fun dialogue. Maybe they could even be captured/corruped on story events, so we could care more about those stages. One of the funniest moments in the game that I recall is the Bride Event, where Pallet was the boss because she was jealous for not having any alt variant lmao! That's the type of thing I wanted more from the game, but at it's best the game almost didn't bother with the characters (exception for the great intro animations, models and some abilities). Paraphrasing what RiCO herself said, "they're not the characters, they're units".

I got into the series only recently and X-dive pretty late in its lifecycle. While I'm happy there will be an offline version of the game, its stripped features is a setback (why just not have p2p for pvp etc). For me the biggest con is losing the crossover characters and presumably the armours for the canon characters. But it is an online game being somewhat preserved when the servers shut down, those servers shutting down was never a question of "if" but "when". I'm gonna remain hopeful for future Megaman titles regardless of what style of gameplay they come in. I am a Kid Icarus fan and have waited years for a sequel to KIU so waiting on a new mm game (it has happened with the likes of 9, 10 and 11) is easy. As for the swim suit designs? While not my thing or something I look for in frankly any game, Yeah those were tame by far.

It's very simple business: When you are a a multi-million public company, you become subject to the interests of shareholders. Shareholders don't want stability, they want short term profits, even if it ends up killing the company long term. Strong leadership can reign in the desires of the ravenous shareholders and search for a middle ground. But when the strong leadership is absent, you are left at the whims of the shareholders. This is what happened with Mega Man after Inafune left. Inafune may have been a questionable leader, but he had a very strong presence at Capcom and was willing to fight his superiors to green light projects. I really believe that current day Capcom doesn't have a "champion for Mega Man" like Inafune was. We only got great games like _Resident Evil 7,_ _Devil May Cry 5_ and _Street Fighter 6_ because their directors and producers were extremely passionate, and were willing to say "NO" to what their superiors initially wanted to impose.

Why Mega Man X Dive have fail? I see two big issue about why in hope they have been fixed for the offline version: First, despite it's a gacha game, the dev should let the players to unlock easily any characters for enjoy the game the best that they can since the official trailer promise that every players can play as their own favorite characters like Sigma, Vile, Magma Dragoon, Bit and more but the true is unlock those characters in the online mode is a big pain in the a*s. It's been few years that I'm into this games and I have never manage to unlock Sigma or Magma Dragoon because there is no shop for you can buy your own favorite characters in exchange of Metal Element so the only way to unlock a characters is to use those stupid capsules who give you random characters and even if you have already unlock a characters like Axl, when you use the capsules somes times later, you get another Axl despite you unlock it already (4 times I get the same A rank Axl so people don't say the capsule system in this game is perfect because it's a true garbage) and when we get the Dark Coins event with the store for get every characters we want, they are so f***ing expensive despite I never use Metal Element in capsule for keep a max of Metal Element for the Dark Coins event. And I don't forget about every time I try to play in co-op with a friends, every time I defeat a specific flying ennemy, the game crash and close with no way that I can finish the first level in co-op even if I try to do co-op level but alone without I meet a crash issue. That why if the offline version be release and if they have fix all those borring issue from the online version like made playable characters more easy to unlock and without any crash when you play a level, I would definitively enjoy more the offline version than the garbage online mode despite its not free but I think it would worth it to have a game who is finally fixed unlike the online mode. Plus maybe we will be able to mods the offline version for add more custom Mega Man characters instead it's another useless X or Zero with just a alternate skin for the online version instead it's be a new playable characters like Napalm Man, Needle Man, Storm Eagle and more but, another good thing about the offline mode is, I don't gonna have to deal with any of those salty players that I meet before into somes guild in the online mode and who act like a jerk or be into a drama story i don't know what with others people.

Extremely unfortunately, Mega Man's own future lies on the continuation of Production Talent stepping up, which is NOT happening this year sadly. Not to mention that the ONLY main Passionate Producer left who is still employed at Capcom is none other than Masazaku Eguchi aka Mr. Famous who is in charge of the Battle Network Legacy Collection, with the Mega Man Series overall Producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya officially resigning from Capcom back in end-May, 1 week before X DiVE Taiwan and Japan Versions announced End of Service. Not to mention that previously the Producer of the Taiwan Version, Hideto Yoda, already resigned from his position back in April 2023, despite remaining a shareholder in Capcom Taiwan till this day. To be frank, Capcom had a storied history of continuation of its IPs inseparably tied to the series Production Staff remaining employed at the Company, and Mega Man isn't the only franchise bound by this tradition. Literally ALL the Capcom IPs that have collaborations with X DiVE all suffer the very same fate in both the positive & negative aspects. "Monster Hunter" definitely guarantees the positive aspect for being a "princeling IP", the producer bears the Tsujimoto Family Name (Ryozo), with his older brother (Haruhiro) as CEO and father (Kenzo) being Capcom's founder and Executive Chairman. By the exact same measure, "Street Fighter V" and "Devil May Cry V" had to have the negative parts borne down to them instead, with SFV Producer Yoshinori Ono resigning from Capcom in 2021 while SF6 was in production stage, in which Tsuchiya had to fill in to complete the title before he himself resigned from Capcom in June 2023, Ono is now President of current FGO Developer Lasengle, an independent subsidiary of Aniplex Studios under Sony Entertainment. "Devil May Cry V" had a even more storied negative aspect, with the three producing heads (2 Americans + 1 Japanese) being split up permanently, Peter Fabiano & Matthew Walker concurrently resigned from Capcom one after another after concluding production of their respective last projects and landed employment at US Production Studios, while the Japanese in the trio, Series Director Hideaki Itsuno, has literally abandoned the franchise after DMCV SE, choosing to return to his first love "Dragon's Dogma" after 10 years to direct its sequel.

I honestly think Dive failed because eventually it just became really unfun to play and it wasn't welcoming to new players, at a certain point it just became pick a character that can screen clear, There was no skill involved or anything. I do think that something like Classic/X and especially Legends(It only got 2 games and it had a great foundation) can survive in modern gaming but I think that there needs to be more customization. speaking for X series I think X8 was in the right direction if they want to stick with 2D but I also think that X can work in 3D they just need to figure it out. I'm really curious what Mega Man Taisen will be like though since it's supposedly multiplayer focused? as a long time fan I'm pretty much down for anything genre wise.

Why Mega Man X DiVE failed? Because Mega Man isn't a series that lends itself to the gacha format or a mobile game. Why would I play a dumbed down version of the franchise made to operate with touch screen controls when I can have all the franchise legacy collections on any device I own and play them with a controller? And better yet, the rest of the franchise respects my intelligence and my time, contrary to what gacha games are supposed to do by design.
@LowerBlack64 Жыл бұрын
I don't know, man. Gacha games _can_ work with an action format, just look at Punishing: Gray Raven and Devil May Cry Pinnacle of Combat. I do see where you're coming from, though, as Megaman is a series that is tight on its platforming, and add a 2D plane on top of that and translating _that_ kind of gameplay to touch controls is definitely not a good combination. Maybe there was a better way to make a Megaman game work on touch screens? Maybe! I am not sure myself. Part of me says that a Battle Network approach may have lent itself better, but at that point, it's definitely not the core gameplay of the main series, so attaching the Megaman name to it would've raised some eyebrows at best and alienated the players at worst. Adding the caveats of gacha stipulations is a whole other can of worms, of course.

Thats true . The gameplay of the megaman games arent about making numbers go higher or equipping different weapons armors , accesoirs on X or countless other characters to get more damage , defense , attack , attack-speed and other gacha-/MMO-stuff . Its a franchise of fast paced action-platforming with hidden content with their own new mechanics rewarded for discovering them that has great boss battles and reactionary gameplay . Making Megaman into a gacha-game just isnt megaman anymore . And putting Fanservice of the sexy kind into a game that never was focused on the Sexappeal on any game before , warps and changes this series into something that was never intended to have . That kills the uniqueness of the franchise. And i like to have Sexappeal in games too but not every game fits to have it .

XDive even survived fairly long, for what it was. I'm really enjoying the offline version, but the bit that I played of the mobile version made it clear: not only do the controls not feel good on mobile, but also Megaman's main audience does NOT want a mobile game with gacha elements. Since the most passionate fans are the backbone of Megaman and the game was very centered around 2D Action Platforming, thus not easily attracting an audience as large as it could've were it from another genre, this can be considered the most legendary mismatch of the what the fans wanted vs what they got. Which is a shame, Dive has a lot of good in it: different characters in the same structure, jumping and dashing, makes for easy experimentation with good variety in skills and builds, tons of weapons, fun levelling system (for a gacha), tight gameplay, good boss design... The team could've managed it a LOT better, but in the end, it's a product intended for an audience that, by their nature, does not like it, at least here in the West. Must be why they felt like it was green light on the East. Hopefully the offline ending teaser will lead to something new. I love this franchise unconditionally, and there is still plenty of hope for it. We just need to keep going.

Pretty sure people mentioned the grind curve. It was brutal; once you ran out of EM, it was a pain to build up again (you could get like 60 EM minimum from daily grinding, more if you did multiplayer). Power leveling was also big (and grinding). I think you couldn't even max out a weapon or character unless you had them in PVP fights (which also took time). Resources would be juiced if you used them on armor and or weapons, and don't get me started on the memories. 300 to max out a character minimum. Zenny was pretty much useless (unless you used them for part boxes or EXP/chip memory). They could have made a more expensive version of the Zenny capsule with a chance to get an S Rank - it could have been more pricey, but at least you have something to justify a capsule over small amounts of parts from a 10-pull.

Ngl, a Mega Man game that pulls a Fire Emblem Awakening would be very interesting to say the least. I say this as someone who played Fire Emblem Three Houses, a game that singlehandedly became the highest selling game of the franchise. While I'll admit that the whole waifu-ing of the game was a significant factor for why many (myself included) bought and enjoyed it, the character interactions and the story was the main reason why a lot of people are still talking about the game even after almost 5 years later. The gameplay might be good (or not), but a great story can do wonders for a game's reception and legacy. At this point, any Mega Man game that takes its story seriously and actually utilizes its characters well would easily become the highest selling game of the franchise. Of course, this all depends on Capcom's decisions as a company, so it's still very unlikely that it would happen.

Some series like Gradius did try to appeal to people but ultimately died either way and don't even get a collection anymore, so there's that.

The reason MegaMan as a franchise is failing is because Capcom refuses to make a numbered series outside of the old style games. MegaMan 9 and 10 were the last MegaMan games ever released. What people want is a true sequel to MegaMan X which has been the best the series has to offer. I'm for sexy robots and I don't think that had anything to do with why this game specifically failed. It's a combination of a side project MegaMan game instead of a mainline game in over a decade. The 2nd reason jt failed is because all we received for MegaMan related games is a gacha game. MegaMan has never been a gacha game and I'm not trying to spend 1000s on a live service dead game. 20xx and 30xx does a better job and Capcom just decided to copy paste that and apply it to MegaMan and that is how dive started. Dive is just a numbers game like maplestory

We had a new Mega Man game after 9 and 10 which was Mega Man 11 that came out back in 2018 ended up being the best selling Megaman game ever. But ever since then Capcom has only focused on collections which isn't bad. But we've not had anything really new besides indie devs making their like 30XX and Azure Striker Gunvolt games. For some reason, Capcom doesn't want to make any new games for Megaman even tho 11 sold really well who knows, besides new collections in the future.

did it really 'fail' when it is allowed to live on as an offline game ? hundreds other gacha games just become lost media

xdive offline is selling better on steam than any other megaman game

Simple megaman doesn't have enough female characters. They really run dry every single one it did have.
I just started playing X DiVE for the first time for over a week..

Three words: Lack of diversity. Every single character except for Magman Dragoon was.some generic anime human in generic armor. Why should I care about Robo-Girl 13 over Robo-Girl 26? This game NEEDED more animal/non-human characters besides.just Magma Dragoon.

I do think it has to do with the 2006-2010 changes in gaming landscape, already traditionalist games were selling all time low and not turning into classics, I even remember how SEGA made Valkyria Chronicles as an attempt to test their traditionalist game in the market and sold very low, and most of its fans were already above the age of 24+. I do think that already from that era, games that had a traditionalist 90s, early 2000s vibe already were a generation behind and the current generation of players left it, indicating no growth, and the industry must grow pandering to newer audiences, it's why i think gacha games are the future, they are built in foundation to attract a younger audience, and profit big, and very big if the game is very good and enjoyable. While series that are a generation behind and both devs and fans resisted this kind of change became stagnant and never got growth due to not attracting younger generations. Or we can look at series like Phantasy Star, which already disregarded the older generation which looked for escapes on western titles around the same style but more fit for adults like Warframe to fill their niche, meanwhile that franchise went into a full blown anime style and grown with their newer generation with Phantasy Star Portable and the base Phantasy Star Online 2. Hence I do think it's all related to Inafune leaving CAPCOM, starting Inti creates and seeing his dreamed fullfilled better in an indie company, which i do think the best chance we have for getting more megaman is from a smaller company that doesn't want to envision profits over passion. There could be a case that while Megaman fans don't share the same vision as Keiji Inafune, we could see a Megaman successor by some rising indie dev that is a giant Megaman fan of the "Specific" realm, specially with game making become more and more accessible. Hell, there was even a lot of Megaman fangames when the franchise was big that felt accurate to the feel of the games like those Castlevania games so there can always be hope for something like that coming from it. For now just enjoy other games and wait for it to happen, or you could even be one of those future game developers if you want it so badly that you would share and even profit from it!
