I don't do a lot of gunpla, mostly because I tend to like the bigger models and most of those are prohibitively expensive for me. BUT i splurged and picked up one of these kits a few years ago. It was super easy, the tips in the manual were great for a newbie to gunpla and I still have it on my shelfs

I actually built the Zaku a few months ago, and i was surprised at how fun of a build it was. Particulary impressed with the sprue-mounted parts that you can snap together before taking them off, love the idea of this.

also that joke and meme that in Build Fighters the Mega Size kits straight up became the titans from Attack on Titan to the 1/144 scale kits that are basically the humans in a Gunpla battle, the famous one in the anime being the Mega Size Zaku II, lol.

That decal issue where they don't want to come off is due to storage conditions sadly. It's not even an age thing. I had a similar thing happen to my qubeley embellir, and that's a p-bandai from 2019. In my case I was able to get them to adhere well by just basically globbing the parts in mark setter and dabbing each decal with softer, no matter what shaped surface they were on.

Thank you very much for sharing. My primary model building arena if you will has been 1/48 scale model aircraft. My curiosity peaked when i saw Bandai release this 1/48 Gundam kit because I instantly thought how fantastic it would look to have a Gundam mech of the same scale standing next to all those aircraft. For the record, I have been utterly blown away with Bandai's Star Wars and Space Battleship Yamoto model kits. There is no other manufacturer out there as incredible for this subject matter. In particular the Star Wars kits which are so much better than the Revell, AMT, MPC, and Finemolds kits put together. They get the detail right, they manufacture incredibly well quality controlled kits and best of all they mass manufacture them to boot, to make the price attractive to all us model builders. An amazing company up there with Tamiya and Hasegawa in my firm opinion. Appreciated all your attention to showing all the details and for the record, the poseable positions are more than adequate for my purpose but watching them, I got a touch sad when thinking about the old Robotech model kits you used to be able to get, which could completely transform from mech to veritech fighter and back. Hasegawa does them now but to my knowledge they all appear to be static. In sharp comparison Bandai has put in an incredible amount of joints and hinges to allow this to be as poseable as it can be. With it's size, I can't fathom any position you can achieve with what they provided that wouldn't allow for optimum Mech positioning. (Does anyone really want to do a position with the RX-78 sitting down?? which for the record, still looks achievable with the movement provided.) Many thanks for all your great information, attention to details and even a great source website to boot(dalong fellow model builders). Much appreciated and I hope you continue to enjoy your model building.

The trigger finger for the beam sabers is accurate to irl Korean swordsmanship (as far as I know). The perfect sword grip is using the middle, ring, and pinky fingers as the strongest grips, and the thumb and pointer fingers as guidance.

I've used future floor finish for decals for years. No silvering, tucks down to details when dry, no issues with decals ever coming off.

@arandomaxolotl4114 First, your model must have a gloss top coat. A matte or semi gloss finish will not give a good result for the decal. Put a coating of future on the area the decal will rest, not a heavy coat, just an even cover. While the future is still wet, place your decal where needed. Using the brush you applied the future with, work the excess out from under the decal. When the decal is in place and set, apply a light topcoat of future. Don't be too concerned about the appearance of the future at this point. It will appear to have a rough or textured look, once cured it will be smooth and hard. As the future dries, it will snug the decal down into details and bled the edges together with the base coat and gloss coat. This is where you will eliminate the silvering. When your model is complete, just give it a topcoat of whatever finish you are desiring. I use gloss for my model cars and flat for my military and gundam models. The decals will appear to be an integral part of the finish and not raised or stuck on. Hope this is helpful! Forgot to add, if the decals are small, you can skip coating the model area and just dip the decal in future to apply. Just be careful not to let the decal roll back onto itself. This is how I do all decals less than 3/8s of an inch in size.

@Mecha Gaikotsu so you mentioned using Mark softner Neo when applying your waterslides. Neo is a much stronger mix compared to regular Mark softner and is designed for western kits rather than gunpla. Using Neo on Bandai's waterslides will tend to ruin them unfortunately.

That is actually not a Mega Size. I dont know why Bandai not grade all of RX-78F00 kits except the SD one. This one is definitely Mega Size quality.

@@casvalcat3546 they don't grade them because grades have an actual meaning, best example is the old 1/60 protagonist gundams (last one was the Exia) which are just massive HGs. Most NGs end up being bigger HGs but lack compatibility due to the limited number

I have this kit and you can order custom mega size decals for it from Delpi decal snd it's supposed to come with more hands than just the two. I have mine holding the beam rifle and beam Saber.

I got the same issue with this water decals; they tended to fall off pretty easily. I used Mr. Mark Setter before application to solve the problem, it has adhesive inside. Highly recommended!

One other upgrade might be to use a bit of the chrome marker behind the clear part of the eyes. I'm very tempted to get one to paint as the RX-78-2 American Type, I'd need to both find one that's in good shape and get another American type to, hopefully, scan the sticker sheet in for the right shoulder emblem both for the image and to size the thing to fit the shoulder. The other shoulder is easy enough to get stars for

I have the Zaku II and, well it's on it's own display because of how huge it is, not the most impressive of my collection (it goes for the HG Destroy and the MG Providence, but the special effects as the Standing bases fo aerial poses and the sheer number of lasers or the Funnels being deployed add a lot to this) Even on my WfM shelf I already see how an incredible kit can outshadow others it's own size (the Gundvolva is almost invisible and the Schwarzette almost unremarkable between the Calibarn and the Pharact, really without the pink outline and the mate paint style it wouldn't stand)

G-2: yeah, I don’t have any circuits to make himself talk or move. He’s not even sentient. MK-3: huh, so he’s more of a statue? G-3: yeah, there’s no weapons on him ether, no beam rifle, no Vulcans, no bazooka, and the beam sabers are really just some metal rods I attached onto the backpack, I basically made a statue of myself. 00: you must have been bored to come up with the idea to build a statue of yourself. G-2: yeah. I was.

It's too bad the Mega Size line isn't more popular and can't get a little more attention from Bandai. I remember looking online at gunpla back in 2013 or 2014 maybe, thinking I wanted to buy some, and the prices on the Mega Size kits being pretty decent. Then I actually started buying kits and got into the hobby right before the pandemic and they are commanding ludicrous prices. Maybe one of these days gunpla prices will become reasonable again, but I won't be holding my breath on it being anytime soon.
