Yeah there is a beauty standard for men having strong jaws and it would take labor to "fix" that or make the jaw appear more strong with makeup. However, this doesn't happen nearly as much in practice for men as for women. Women are expected to be attractive not only in romantic situations but even in work and social settings. It gets really old getting ignored in meetings at work or in group work in school because you're not wearing makeup. Men don't have the same pressure that women have to alter their appearance to simply be "acceptable."
@harsh3948
@harsh3948 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not in practice because men are usually kept in the dark about this stuff by women who keep virtue signalling with “just be yourself” and “it’s not about looks” With the workplace, did you know that each inch increase in height correlated with a higher income? How can makeup ever fix this is beyond me

Women are expected to constantly maintain a higher level of attractiveness than men, wearing makeup everywhere for example. Men don't have this expectation, so women are absolutely expected to live up to their "ideal" more. But the standard for what constitutes "a good-looking guy" is harder to reach. As the male beauty ideal has much more emphasis on innate unchangeable features like height, frame and bone structure. Additionally, there's less room for men to go up in looks because you'll be socially ostracised in 99% of places on earth if you wear makeup as a man (probably why there are way more women having "glow ups" than men)

@reneerivera1426
@reneerivera1426 Жыл бұрын
That's because most models back then and still today are transgenders. Do your own research. Not attacking you for the comment just letting you know because at one point I thought they were beautiful and even compared myself to them but when I look back and see old fashion pics from back in the day I notice that yes I have a defined jaw but no where near as defined as theirs and tbh honest all women I know personally don't either. Also all you have to do is look at a woman skull vs a man skull and biologically it's not possible for woman to have such prominent jaw lines. Oh and the wide space between the eyes is another indicator of being born a male. It kills me how "women" are considered more attractive if they do have that space but the reality is that everyday women are being compared to transgenders. Literally. transgenders that are all over the entertainment industry, especially the modeling industry. It's also nothing new.
@RS54321
@RS54321 Жыл бұрын
@@reneerivera1426 Wha?? All the supermodels of the 90s were women!! Your comment is ignorant. Look at Kate Moss...she had very wide-set eyes. I encourage you to look at people with recessed jaws compared to those with protracted jaws...the former will often have closer-set eyes (this is due to the fact that they didn't keep their tongue pressed against their upper palate, which acts as a force to lift and widen the face). It's physics. Also, almost every model has a strong jawline-it makes for a more beautiful face. Strong, wide jaw and smile is a sign of health and beauty.

the beauty industry weaponizes the oppression and hegemony of women as a marketing ploy. men are of course taken advantage of as well, but without the added layer of misogyny and sexism. it’s easier to target a group for their insecurities when those insecurities align with historical and modern societal expectations that have been used to disempower the people within said group.

Idk about y'all. I love big noses in everyone. I got used to it and came to see it as esthetically pleasing. Because back in arts school every statue we had was of the Greek gods. We would usually have to make the portraits of Venus and Poseidon. Greek women were portrayed with quite a big, straight and a bit downward nose, really thin lips and small and round jawlines. Men had a beard, so you couldn't really se a jawline there. But they were not really that different from one another.

bc estrogen stops bone growth so small nose = high estrogen early on in life = better reproductive ability whereas men grow taller and larger due to lower estrogen that doesn't stunt their (facial or bodily) growth.

Great video. Please do one why men are expected to have an aesthetic muscular physique, while women are supposed to be skinny, and the only muscle they are allowed is their butt. - that would be am awe topic.

Just where are you getting those things about women? Women are allowed to be muscular if they keep their diomorphic traits. Just don't use steroids. Working only on legs can cause a very disproportionate look.

Well a lot of women are being brainwashed to obsess over getting a bigger ass that's why there's been a rise of BBL procedures so yes a lot of women go to the gym and mostly, or some always, just focus on their lower half but the good thing is I've seen more women try weight training not just that this year.

I'd say the beauty standard is ideal hourglass, not skinny. The really skinny ones get as much shit for being a "walking anorexic hanger that should eat more" as skinny guys do.

Toxic beauty standards apply to both men and women, but women are generally more susceptible to beauty criticisms. It's mostly due to societal pressure. Best solution is to forgive and move on. Our bodies are not fast fashion. If someone says your nose is too small or forehead too big, ask them to pay for your plastic surgery costs plus health insurance bills or else they can keep their opinions to themselves just like their money in their pockets 🙂
