The more I watch Bryan the more I like him. He feels like he'd be good company (which ticks the parasocial relationship box lol) because a) his motives are far clearer than most - passion clearly drives him a lot, which is noble imo. b) He apparently has very little profit incentive to mislead you and c) his results speak for themselves. It's really nice to have a 'safe' channel where I can watch a whole video and feel better off for having done it. There is no great focus on the consistent chaos of the world, just refreshing dialogue on how we might improve our lives - often from easy first-principles ideas (ignoring the absurdly expensive stuff, obviously)

@trevormurphy3457Ай бұрын
"He apparently has very little profit incentive to mislead you" He's linking to his supplement brand right below his videos. That's actually a pretty big incentive to mislead you. I'm interested in improving longevity but this scattershot approach of just taking dozens of different substances is not going to work better than doing something simple and cheap like taking rapamycin a few times a week and going for runs. There's also no evidence basis for a lot of the stuff in his supplements and the stuff there is a basis for you can get cheaper elsewhere. If you want to take NR or Fisetin great but why take them mixed with a bunch of crap you don't need!
@trevormurphy3457Ай бұрын
To add to this, in the video he's talking about playing around with his eating habits like it's a scientific experiment. It's not science if it's not even single blinded, the researcher is the patient, and n=1. All this is evidence of is longevity OCD.

I’ve been following your advice closely and wanted to share my experience. I’m 31, and despite experimenting with eating at different times before bed, I’ve noticed that it doesn’t seem to affect my resting heart rate. It consistently stays between 42 and 50, regardless of when I eat. In fact, on several occasions, I’ve eaten right before bed to meet my protein goals, and my resting heart rate still averages around 46, sometimes even lower. However, I have noticed one downside to eating too late: it tends to wake me up after 3-4 hours of sleep, and I find it difficult to fall back asleep. To avoid this, I’ve started eating 2-3 hours before bedtime, and it has made a noticeable difference. So far, this approach has been working well for me.

He's not a billionaire. He made $300 million off his sale of Braintree/Venmo, and he would've had to pay significant taxes on that sale. @@trying3841 -- where do you hear that? Last September, Time Magazine said that Johnson walked away from the sale of Braintree Venmo in 2013, with more than $300 million, and that was _by far_ his biggest deal ever. According to the Wiki on him, since then he has invested $100 million in Kernel, and another $100 million in the OS Fund. Obviously he's also spent some of his gains on things like his house and lifestyle. So assuming that he's getting _some_ kind of reasonable returns on his investments, unless he's found some way to print money, that looks to me like he probably has around $100 million. Of course I could be wrong. If you're aware of any other source of his income, let me know.

Let me break down the key takeaways from this video about sleep habits that affect sleep quality: 1. Late Eating - Eating close to bedtime disrupts sleep by triggering metabolic activity - The speaker found their optimal last meal time was 11-11:30 AM (though this is extreme) - Recommendation: Experiment with eating 2-4 hours before bed - Resting heart rate can be a good indicator of sleep quality 2. Lack of Wind-Down Routine - Need at least 60 minutes before bed to transition - Avoid stimulating activities and work - Recommended activities: - Reading physical books - Journaling - Meditation - Taking a bath - Walking 3. Late Stimulant Consumption - Caffeine has a 6-hour half-life - Avoid caffeine and alcohol late in the day - Individual sensitivity varies 4. Evening Light Exposure - Dim lights 2 hours before bed - Use warm light spectrum (2700-3500 Kelvin) - Minimize blue light exposure (use f.lux or blue light blocking glasses) - Avoid screens 1 hour before bed 5. Bedroom Temperature - Room temperature significantly impacts sleep quality - The speaker uses a temperature-controlled mattress: - 73°F at bedtime - 69°F during deep sleep - 71-72°F during REM - 73°F when waking 6. Noise Management - Address noise issues with neighbors politely - Use white, pink, or brown noise machines - Create a quiet sleep environment The speaker emphasizes that prioritizing sleep isn't lazy but rather heroic, benefiting yourself and others around you. They recommend aiming for 8 hours of quality sleep despite cultural pressure to sleep less.

I have wanted to sleep well for ten years, but it is absolutely frustrating. Many people are not aware of how difficult it is to find an apartment where you still want to live, but where you can decide for yourself when you go to sleep and not the neighbors around you or the people and activities outside. The brutal reality is: there is no sleep. Before everyone else in bed and being woken up is standard. It is an absolute disaster. All of the steps are really great, but having the basic requirement at all. Peace and quiet whenever you want is the biggest challenge.

Thanks for making these videos! You are a pioneer and an inspiration. I quit vaping, cut out my afternoon coffee, go to bed earlier, and pushed all my meals back earlier in the day. Feeling great, going to sleep fast, waking up early with lots of energy every day.

My ex-employer would expect me to stay late a lot and it was horrible not only for my health, but for my productivity at work. The irony! Additionally, a plant-based diet and cycling have also helped me tremendously.

Everything you said is 100% correct. But you should put emphasis on the importance of a good mattress as well. I know it's a difficult subject because not everyone can afford the quality of mattress they need for proper sleep and the whole industry is kind of a overvalued mafia but people should be aware that even it hurts monetarily, it's the best investment one can make for his health and a good mattress lasts 10 yr+ .

Hey Bryan, I’m from Germany and I actually found you through a German documentary series called “Y-Kollektiv.” Since then, I’ve watched several of your videos, and I just have to say-you’re a huge inspiration for me. You’ve really opened my eyes when it comes to health. I realized something important: I don’t want to end up like my mom. She just reached retirement age, but even basic things are tough for her now. It’s so sad that when you finally have time to enjoy life, you’re physically unable to fully experience it. She used to sit in the sun with no sunscreen, a cigarette in one hand, and a glass of alcohol in the other. She never really paid attention to her diet, and besides some horseback riding when she was young, I don’t think she ever did any kind of sport. Now, I can see the impact of those choices. Thank you for opening my eyes. You’re incredibly down-to-earth and inspiring. Greetings from Germany!

One small thing that's made a big difference in the quality of sleep that I get is a small white noise machine. There are certain frequencies of sound that do a fantastic job of helping block out certain external sounds, like traffic noises, and I've become accustomed and comfortable sleeping with those frequencies of white noise.
@ogisan-hr2gpАй бұрын
Would you mind sharing which one do you use? I prefer aerosols but they are not meant at all for leaving overnight. Also do you have any timer feature that disables the machine?

@@ogisan-hr2gp I use a brand called Lectro Fan. It does not have a timer function.

What do you think is worse for sleep- the sensation of hunger distracting you and keeping you awake, or the digestion of food?
@AhhhSukeSukeАй бұрын
Your body needs to get used to new routines.... diff types of meal, slowly moving back your last meal.... You'll get used to it. You'll no longer feel hunger. I'm willing to try it
@Nolu-ShizmatАй бұрын
Everybody is different. You'd have to test yourself over time to find the minimum calories you have to eat to not be kept up by hunger.

My undergrad was in nutrition, and before going to med school I would do little experiments on myself all the time and track my personal response. You have the money and the backing to really test this stuff, and I applaud you. Nutrition and epigenetics is something we know very little about. I respect your continued work and the information you provide people for free.

Thank you! It's amazing what intermittent fasting does for your sleep - I stop eating and drinking at 1 pm, maintain a 4-hour eating-and drinking window from 9 am - 1 pm every day, and my sleep has improved drastically.
