Idk I think most fans who were being realistic knew this was a very real possibility, particularly if contract negotiations didn’t go smoothly. We were all hopeful that it wouldn’t happen, but everyone knew it was a risk taking on a player who had drama on his prior teams.

@@lubangz6062 The Suns are over the second apron in salary cap, i.e., they are two tiers above the standard NBA league limit for salaries paid to players, so they have an additional two levels of penalties/restraints when it comes to trades. One of those restrictions for teams over the second apron is that they cannot aggregate player salaries in a trade to get a salary match to make a deal. That is, they can only move to trade players with relatively (very) similar salaries because they cannot bundle, or “aggregate” several of them together to match a much larger salary. Therefore, even if the Suns wanted, say, to try to match Jimmy Butler’s salary (~$48.8 million) with multiple guys and perhaps trade Grayson Allen (~$15.6 mil), Jusuf Nurkic (~$18 mil), Tyus Jones (~$2.1 mil), Ryan Dunn (~$2.5 mil), and a pick, THEY CANNOT DO THAT! THEY ARE EXPLICITLY PROHIBITED FROM BUNDLING, OR “AGGREGATING” SALARIES IN A TRADE BC THEY’RE ALREADY OVER THE SECOND LEVEL PAST THE STANDARD SALARY CAP, OR THE “SECOND APRON.” Hence, Bradley Beal’s contract with the Suns (with his no-trade clause, which means the Suns can’t trade him unless he agrees to the deal) becomes crucially important for any deal the Suns are trying to make for Jimmy Butler because Beal’s salary (~$50 million) is THE ONLY SALARY THAT CLOSELY MATCHES JIMMY’S(!), so since they CANNOT aggregate salaries in a trade to get a similar or matching amount, it’s, in fact, EFFECTIVELY THE ONLY SALARY THAT THE SUNS COULD POSSIBLY MOVE TO GET JIMMY. Does that make more sense now?

If we get Middleton and even if we keep Rozier, Duncan Robinson's contract and about $15 other contracts if we don't extend Jovic that's $95 million coming of the books after next season. Plus those expiring contract will have value next season as well so could help with trades. So a reset really is needed to get on track. Plus adding a few picks doesn't hurt. So I don't mind a deal adding Middleton.

If they don’t trade him now Butler has a lot of the leverage and he’s clearly petty enough to opt back into his contract and ruin the Heat’s upcoming season like he has been doing this year by continuing to make it ugly and uncomfortable for them and then at that point who would even want him given all the chaos and distractions he’s been making so the Heat will be playing a dangerous game by allowing this to linger.

I know less then 1% of heat fans will agree with me but here goes.. I feel with Jimmy. I think the heat organisation has handled him poorly. And I do not undersand how all fans are on the organisations side? Soo hear me out... Somehow cant have figured out who Jimmy is. How proud he is. How loyal he is when treated the way he deserves and how cold he goes if someone treats him less well then he deserves. It was a perfect marriage until outside influences came into the picture. PJ and Kyle were never bought in like Jimmy and PJ walked for money. Miami is 7th in the league in team salary. They are clearly not cheap. Meaning, we cannot simply keep saying Pat/Micky wouldn't pay to get Jimmy help or they are too cheap to pay Jimmy...other stars will see this. The facts are the facts. He's an older player, he has a history of being a mercenary (whoever bids the highest), and he wants max money. He could have played out the season and his and the Heat's positioning for trades would have been much easier BUT this is what he does. There's literally a history here. Doesn't mean we didn't enjoy the Jimmy build..the finals runs, etc. BUT, the money he wants cripples the Heat's future moves. Players who do not consider the new CBA in their demands (Jimmy, B.I, etc). Will get butt hurt it's not the same as before.

Our greatest asset for the last 30 years is now our biggest liability. Pat riley is 80 years old hes stubborn and old school. Free agents dont really want to go to miami. Yesterday's players respect riley todays players do not. Espn says "A player who signed a three-year or four-year contract is allowed to extend on the second anniversary of the original contract. A player who signed a five-year contract is allowed to extend on the third anniversary of the original contract. The maximum years, including what is left on the original contract, is five". Meaning extensions end and at some point players do become unrestricted free agents. I'm sure the Heat are monitoring those players😅
