Michael Jackson will forever be known as a incredible performer, arguably the best the world has ever seen. But Michael Jackson appeared to have a love/hate relationship with relationship to performing and, as a result, refused to tour the US after his Bad tour ended in 1989.
Many theories why this became the case have been speculated over the years, and in this video we discuss the most logical reasons behind his US exodus.

MJ was emotionally destroyed by the allegations. I believe it killed his creativity and desire to perform. He became very reclusive and lonely in his last years. It’s such a shame what happened to the greatest entertainer we’ve ever seen.

Bad tour - go back and watch the concerts… the energy the force and the effort he put into his dancing in that tour is something NO ONE alive then or now will see from a performer again. The man gave his all on stage then and it was a sight we should feel lucky to have on video. It’s like a Beethoven concert on film. A master at his craft giving his soul to the performance.

Yes, you are right. The allegation was pure evil from Evan Chandler, he wanted $ 20 million, he told Michael if he wouldn't give him the money he would force him to give it to him. Evan Chandler created a lot of copy cats and the rich men in the entertainment industry calculated, if he is a lot in court, he would lose a lot of money. They brought up the whole negative propaganda. They payed the media a lot of money for any false and negative reports. They payed artists or any other people a 6-numbered amount of money for any false or negative report. Behind the allegation, the bad media, where the music industry who wanted to get the music catalog. They wanted to bring Michael down in order that they can by the music catalog for cheap. In the end they reached their goal. Michael had to sell 50% of his catalog and when he died Sony bought very quick the catalog and all the film material about the rehearsal from "This is it". Michael was since he was 5 years old chased because of money. Michael's story is sad. He was trained and learned from a very young age and he wanted deep in his soul to make people happy with his music, and he had always to do with people who would stab him in the back to get a hand on his bank account.

Definitely. I always wonder what he could have done if the allegations never broke out. He had so many plans for the future, wanted to buy Marvel and Disney and become the greatest entertainment entrepreneur on Earth. Just imagine that. Right now we would have MJ Universe and movies directed by him. Along with most wonderful music. The world sucks without this man.

+FUZE Those allegations were planned to damage his impact as a power. They derailed everything he planned for the Dangerous Tour by Christmas 1993. He was going to be the Humanitarian/Lightworker Entertainer. His tours would not be just to sell albums but to literally HEAL THE WORLD. He would have been the rarest performer ever. And his power would have reached uncanny heights beyond what was already uncanny to begin with. Putting that dark cloud over his name stymied his impact in these matters. He would have been too powerful for The Powers That Be that keep this world in corruption. If other entertainers emulated Michael's model, the corruption would not be able to hold. So he had to be stopped. His influence would simply have been too uncontainable.

“This is it” would have been the opportunity for a new generation of fans to see MJ perform live. It would also have made his performances more accessible for everyone who couldn’t be there through much higher quality video/audio recordings, compared to what we have available from his tours in the 80’s and 90’s. Personally I would have payed a lot to see it and I know it would have been THE show of the century.

He would've continued to make a few more videos for the Dangerous Album and finish the tour. Those false allegations ruined it. 1993 was beginning to be Michael's best year, he was doing the numbers, selling, creating more projects, Super Bowl, the Oprah Interview (before she stubbed him in the back) and etc. The public were starting to understand him more in life and about his battle with vitiligo. People were sympathizing with him. Those allegations and the tabloids (swaying the public against him) destroyed it all.

Fun Fact: this pivot towards a more global market is one of reasons why "Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix" found itself in the awkward place of being a smash hit across Europe and Oceania (with a couple of gold records coming out of Asia), but going somewhat unnoticed by the American market...and by somewhat unnoticed, I mean managing to have the album come out in the higher end of the pop and R&B top 40 upon release, and going platinum by 2000, with its 6-million-unit sale globally making it the best-selling remix album of (you guessed it) all time.

Yeah but the main reason why it sold poorly in America was because of the HIStory album. Many fans were confused and didn’t know how to take the album. MJ was reportedly so distraught that the album wasn’t to his standards and remixed a bunch of tracks. Tbh as a big MJ fan, I only listen to 5 tracks on the BOTDF album. The remixes kinda throw me off but the fact that the album again wasn’t as popular as Mike hoped and still sold well all time speaks volumes

Some in a more benign way like fellow artists who resent his dominance & some in a more sinister way like evil secret societies like the ones who plotted the witchhunts against him. Madonna broke it down in that 2009 MTV speech "Because that's what heroes do & Michael Jackson is a hero". She was always in awe of him while also being his rival on that charts trying to beat him. I think his treatment by the press and media especially after the allegations in 1993 and his highly scrutinized personal life in the mid to late 90s didn’t help at all. The 80s were his peak in the United States in terms of popularity. Another fine video. What’s great about this one is it’s focus on Jackson’s use of specific tours and appearances as part of a wider strategy to globalise his musical brand. In that sense, Jackson was truly ahead of the curve in anticipating the growth of commercial engagement in emerging markets and developing economies (that are commonly tapped into now). It is also remarkable knowing the business savvy of growing and maintaining the brand in an age before the digital, social media viral age. The limited appearances that Jackson did do in the States still reinforced his cultural grip (even as he became perceived as yesterday’s news as far as musical trends were concerned) among the music loving public. We can see the harvest boon of this work with the success of the previews of MJ the Musical, where most, if not all, previews have sold out, with fans travelling not just from across the States, but the world, to watch the official tribute to the King of Pop (any scandalous and sensational TV documentaries notwithstanding).

+Inaworldoflove Correct. And it's also a matter of Been There, Done That. Michael had toured the US since 1970. Going overseas & being treated like the King he was had to resonate with him just a little different. The love overseas is special even though us American fans still love him greatly. I always thought this was unfair to his US fans. Some of us were too young to see the Bad tour and never had a chance to see him. It did not make sense to tour the rest of the globe while leaving us out. No tabloid press was worse than Great Britain and he went there many times after Bad. It wouldn't matter if Dangerous & HIStory had sold 10 copies Michael could have sold out any stadium in the United States whenever he wanted. Would his musical output have turned out the same? Would he have stuck closer to the pure Soul category & shunned the Crossover? Would Off The Wall or Thriller be possible? What if Prince & Michael did Bad together? Would Wesley Snipes have a career as a result? What if Madonna & Michael did In The Closet together? Would it change the trajectory of Madonna's career? Michael's? What if Whitney & Michael did I Just Can't Stop Loving You together? Would Siedah Garrett have missed working with Mike? Would we have Man In The Mirror if that was the case? So many crossroads to ask What-Ifs when it comes to this man's life.

It’s crazy how every artist dreams of breaking Into the scene in the US and hitting the biggest markets! But Michael did that so easily when he saw how bad he was being treated he took the chance to go global and that’s why the world loves him. It’s truly paid off because most people around the world agree on who he was and how he still is the King of Pop however most people who disagree live in America, most press in America still try to discredit his success even after his passing, and it’s Americans who try to compare artists from today like Kanye with his level of success. So going global was actually one of the best things he ever did!

According to Dick Gregory, Mike was afraid someone was going to kill him, especially during the trial period. He lost so much weight because he was afraid of being poisoned. Dick took Mike to a hospital after the verdict. He said they got to the hospital around 5 o’clock that evening and around 6am the next morning they were still putting fluids in him-he was just that dehydrated. He wouldn’t eat or drink during parts of the trial; that’s why he was so frail and thin. The doctor told Dick it was good he brought Mike, cause he would have been dead in a few more days. I believe that’s why Mike left the USA. I don’t believe he came back til James Brown’s funeral. Sad part is someone actually did murder him (and I ain’t talking about that Murray man).
