I think it's too early to take a chance for Mickey as coach. I'm hoping he stays on as WR coach. But if he doesn't and gets a coaching job elsewhere, then maybe we are able to get him in the future once he has taken some lumps learning. He would cost more at that point, but may be worth it if his learning and honing his coaching skills is not at our expense.

Scott Frost checked every box when we hired him and in the end, his character (or lack thereof) destroyed his career and set us back 5 years. @@Herbcatt1988 Maybe in hindsight but in the moment, Frost was a no brainer hire. Coming off of his time at Oregon and UCF, it made the most sense to everyone looking at it. Remember, we weren't the only one looking at him back then. He was going to get hired as a HC at a larger program no matter what. Looking back now, Nebraska fans were too drunk on the idea of having Frost bring Nebraska back to national relevancy (myself included) to see that he was carried at Oregon by the players and staff, and he was carried by the players at UCF. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The University and fans need to stop thinking that only a former Nebraska guy can make the program good again. In fact, it just needs to stop being a point in the pro column when talking about coaches. We cling to this idea that only someone who "knows the culture" can do something. But all of these guys played/coached in a time when the culture was different. The culture isn't 100% the same, so it shouldn't be a sticking point. Nebraska has a problem with nepotism. Let's look beyond the Nebraska ties, and look at what a coach can do well with what they have. If Mickey is that guy, awesome. If he isn't, let's get someone else who can prove it.

The HC doesn’t necessarily need Head Coaching experience (Osborne, Solich, Pelini didn’t have HC resumes!). Coach MJ is excellent at recruiting and developing those players! He is paying attention to the details and taking overall responsibility when things don’t go as planned. And most importantly, he truly cares about these kids, not the money, not the fame, not the attention, the most important asset is what he truly cares about! In line with other comments, Scott Frost’s issues at Nebraska do not appear to be connected to his resumé; I believe there will be multiple stories breaking in the coming months. I’m developing trust in Trev Alberts and believe that he’ll have dotted the proverbial “i’s” and crossed the “t’s” before announces the next head coach. I heard many rumors in Lincoln last Saturday, including ASU making contact with Mickey Joseph. Among those, that Mickey’s contract cost would free up beaucoup dollars to spend on assistants. I’d be fine with him as HC. I’d be ok with losing him IF the hire was a big enough name to ensure recruiting would be at least on the same level as it would with Mickey retained.
@lavenderchants60142 жыл бұрын
Scott Frost and his team were decent recruiters every year, but not so great at getting the most out of those recruits, yet Trev still gave him one last chance, as long as he added Mark and Mickey and the star players that Mickey brought in, but it feels like maybe Trev had bigger plans for Mickey all along. Obviously, Mickey is a recruiter on a much higher level than Frost, and he is known for getting the most out of his players, and he seems like he's ready to take the next step to being a head coach on a higher level. Some people will complain that Nebraska should not be a learner school for new coaches, but in my opinion those people ought to get off their high horses and realize that Mickey is a commodity in today's college football that is going to help some team get to the top. Mickey is a magnet for the players we want, he tells it like it is, and he does things the right way - in return his players play lights out for him. You see it all around college football - big names, big resumes, all riding the carousel - win a champ one year get fired the next. We need something new! We want Mickey!

Again the big money people don’t want Mickey as our head coach. That’s the latest information I have. And Arizona St. interest is a bs rumor. Surely ASU isn’t that stupid. And Nebraska better get out the gigantic money and hire a new big time head coach and staff like LSU and USC did. Great video. I took part in your first call-in show and would love to talk to you guys directly about the MJ situation. In my opinion, he's got the Dabo aura about him. Dabo was a career position coach before being promoted to OC and then HC in the same season. His players loved him, the fans loved him and he had a great mind for the sport (still does). However, it took him several years to build his program and they had a number of grueling losses and a lot of moments where they felt they could've moved on. I'm afraid we don't have those cushion years as a program. Clemson had been a middle-of-the-pack program for years before Dabo averaging around 6-9 wins a year. We are not that. We NEED somebody who can make this program nationally relevant again and I fear we don't have room to experiment with a (relatively) unknown commodity like MJ. In a perfect world we get a proven HC to come in and make us a strong contender in our conference, then once that guy leaves we elevate MJ to that position but it is incredibly unlikely that we could keep him that long. The risk his huge with MJ as of right now and I don't know if we have time to wait for the reward before Nebraska become's completely irrelevant.

Unfortunately Frost left the program worse than he found it. Why? I have no freaking clue anymore. I’ve heard every excuse imaginable made for Frost in the last 2 months on why he couldn’t get it done. I think the simple answer comes down to one word: Accountability. Mickey Joseph as interim has not only shown extreme Accountability for a team/coaching staff that isn’t his, but a clear plan on how to get it fixed. The guy as we speak is recruiting his ASS off to give not only himself, but whoever gets the job the best shot. I think the pro’s out way the cons with Mickey Joseph and everyone I’ve talked to wants him as HC. GBR and appreciate the video as always Connor! - Jake from Texas

He can recruit well, and he can develop wide receivers, but we don’t know how great he can be at coaching the whole team. I think if you’re Trev, you try and keep Mickey around, but bring in a proven head coach. Honestly, whatever happens, I just wish Mickey the best. I hope he stays here, but if he decides to go coach somewhere else, I hope he has success there.
@gt5mhansen2 жыл бұрын
Knowing the X's and O's isn't a concern... he'll hire that out. Trev isn't letting the next head coach be the play caller too.. unless is Lane Kiffin. But I mean come on, do you want to win that bad that you hire a guy like that?!
@lsuvsfar50712 жыл бұрын
@@gt5mhansen The best head coaches know their X's and O's. Even if you look at Alabama, Saban might not be calling all the plays, but guys like Sark and Kiffin don't just roll in there as elite playcallers. A good football coach works with his coordinators, and helps develop the gameplan. If you don't have a headcoach that can do X's and O's, you're always going to be at a disadvantage, even if you have good coordinators. Anyhow yes, I would hire Lane Kiffin if we could. What's so bad about him?

I personally think that we should give MJ a chance. We cannot deny what a difference we've seen in attitude and self-accountability in comparison to Scott Frost as HC. He can recruit, make the hard decisions and he's obviously a fan favorite. I do agree with some of the cons to keeping him as HC, but if things don't work out, the program won't have an enormous amount on a pay-out if need be. Especially with Auburn now looking for a HC of their own is going to make finding a better hire that much harder. GBR

We loose to Minnesota this season is over. So, you hire Mickey and give him a 1 year contract with the option of 2 additional years. 1st year must make it to a bowl game. Period! Then he will receive bonuses beyond 6+ wins. Second year year 7-8 wins. More bonus money and give him a longer contract. If he falls below 6 wins, hire a new coach. If he still at 6 wins he still has 1 more year to prove he can do it. I believe Micky and get us where we need to get to. Top 15 every year. Micky needs an off season to bring in his players. GBR

Step 1 - Go to 'My Account', then 'Payments' & add your username for whatever payment options you have. Step 2 - Go to the top where it says 'Games' & you can scroll through up coming games by sport! Step 3 - Click a game you want to make a bet on, then hit 'Open Bet' or Click a bet that's already open below. Type in which bet you want for how much money and wait for it to be accepted! Step 4 - Once you win, someone will pay you through your payment options, if you lose, you go to your 'Balances' and you can see their username so you can pay them what you owe. once you use it a couple times, it's super easy. If you need help reach out to me over e-mail and I'll send you a video tutorial! corncrazedig@gmail.com

If it was up to me, I would keep Mickey Joseph. At worst we would be a seven and five team under his system, I’m sure. If he isn’t hired, I will be devastated, unless we get Deion Sanders, who is the only person I think that I would take over Mickey at this point.

There’s no perfect hire for head coach. However, Nebraska needs more wins in the Big Ten- now! Call a candidate who can recruit and develop nasty offensive and defensive lineman to dominate the line of scrimmage. If Mickey can be convinced to stay as an offensive coordinator, that might work. Otherwise I think ASU is wise to contact him. On a side note, even though Bo Pelini was the angriest Husker Football coach in history, his consistency was never fully appreciated until now. Imagine what Bo could achieve now in the Big Ten after his learning curve in the conference.

4. He's Never Been a Coordinator: you had a great interview with Zach Smith who said there's no overlap between the primary skills needed for a head coach (recruiting, hiring/firing) and those for a coordinator (scheming/play calling). Especially since most coordinators aren't responsible for hiring the assistants. Can you speak to why you still disagree with Zach on this?

My fear is getting someone like Callahan again. Don't want to see another guy come in and derail everything because they know better. One thing is for sure we cannot make a reactionary hire. We cannot look for someone frost isn't because that is how you end up with a Riley and we 100% cannot do that again either.

I'm looking at the MI game to make a true determination of MJ. Yes, I'm looking past MN. NU can believe it has a chance against them because MN at the same level. The question is, can NU come out and match MI intensity, passion, and purpose in Ann Arbor? If NU does not believe in their abilities to win and "refuse to lose" then another HC is needed. For me, the only other bigger than life, inspiring person that has been out recruiting even Saban is Coach Prime. BIG experience is minor when the conference is forced to adjust to NU instead of the other way around. NU a Prime Time program. Here's its Prime Time coach.

Make Mickey Associate Head coach under whoever is hired and pay him like a coordinator. He wants to stay. I don't believe it's "all or nothing" with him. Why go to ASU or Colorado with less resources and risk things not working out and getting fired in 2 or 3 years? Help turn NU around, build your network and resume, THEN after success, your dream job will be available to you.

Here's the way I look at it, is there someone out there that we can get that is a guarantee success? Not really, at least that I can tell. So if there is no one out there this year that we really want & will be rolling the dice either way, what could it hurt to give Mickey 1 year & see what happens? It can't possibly get worse but if worse does come to worst, we can see who is available next year, anything can happen from here to there. Just my 2 cents. Give Mickey the off season + game season & see what happens, cause fuck it why not?

This is a tough decision " scott frost had barely two years head coaching experience when Nebraska decided to hire him" Mickey Joseph has even less experience " granted he's a great recruiter he can get close to the players and they respect him" but what these players need is not a friend " but a head coach" who will light a fire under their asses " these players with the "nil " deals are being paid" if your being paid for playing football" your now a professional " and you should be held to a higher standard " the o line and the d line are the biggest part of the problem " and if these players for Nebraska can't hang with the big boys then they should be riding the bench
@InDaWilderness2 жыл бұрын
Mickey is a solid choice, but there isn't nough proof yet (unless he starts racking up wins to finish the year). Trev should have a list of 3 or 4 other more proven guys that he reaches out to. If he can snag one of those for a good price then pull the trigger. If not, then roll the dice on Mickey.

Don't fool yourself, agents are hired for many reasons. This is just one...FOMO. The most important thing is to block out the noise and ensure we get the RIGHT guy to lead our football team.
