Is your body giving you strange signals? Troublesome symptoms such as weakened muscles and numbness could be a sign that something is amiss with your nervous system. Don't wait to get checked out-take charge of the situation now!
This is where an EMG test and nerve conduction tests can help.
An EMG test (electromyography) measures the electrical activity of muscles, while a nerve conduction test measures the speed and strength of signals traveling along nerves. Together, these tests can help identify problems with the way your nervous system is working.
You might have questions about EMG and nerve conduction tests; don't worry, we're here to help! To gain a better understanding of the process beforehand, take a look at this exclusive video clip. Contact us today if you think these procedures are right for you!

Thanks so much, very informative and very needed, 81 yr old patient here. I suffer very painful hands, numb fingers, and some neuropathy in the toes which began first. Numbness/sensitivity of fingers was almost an overnite thing last Sept. 2023. I've been all these months of referral appts to see neurologist. I had laminectomy surgery 1974, was very successful. Lower back pain began again in mid 90s; so I've had much spinal involvement, but nothing has ever ever manifested itself in my hands before. I'l undergo EMG testing in mid February and was very nervous, fearful about it to be honest. I have degenerative disc and osteoarthritis of the spine. Had RNA facet injections in 2022, steroid injections for lower back pain since that time. You have helped me understand more about the procedure & possible results. God bless you; you've been very helpful and I apologize for the long comment.

Your explanation was so well presented -Thank you. I had my EMG today due to tingling in mainly one leg. The test was okay, a little uncomfortable for the muscle test but it was manageable. The doctor who did this told me that there was a significant issue but now I have to wait over a month for an appointment with the consultant and he will discuss the results . So now I am slightly worrying for the result and trying not to look on google about what it could be! Your video was really concise and I learned a lot about nerves.

Thank you for this. I am getting an EMG NCV test next week. it has been a year since my thumb started to move on its own. First was both thumb, then it stopped for 3 months. Then the left thumb started moving again on its own. Then after a month, my right index finger started to do the same. There are also occasional tremors for seconds in my cheek and lips.

My Doctor ordered for an EMG/NCV Test. But i am hesitant. Question Sir. Can EMG/NCV exactly pinpoint the cause of peripheral neuropathy ? If this type of test will just determine that a nerve had injury or damage but can not pin point the actual cause to be able to cure the issue. Then this test is useless in my opinion.

I had an EMG done in December that indicated abnormalities in both my legs. I was treated for Guillain Barre but the neurologist had doubts it was Guillain Barre after a few treatments with IVIG. I had a visit with my family doctor after I was released from the hospital but she had no answers to my questions in regards to why I have abnormalities in both my legs. This video gave me more answers than I got from my family doctor. I now know what might be the cause for my symptoms I have spinal stenosis, multiple sclerosis and type 2 diabetes. Listening to this doctor explain the results of an EMG, I have information on the possibilities as to what might be causing the symptoms I am experiencing. Two years ago I had an abscess on my big toe and decided to cut away all the skin and tissue right down to the bone. I was able to use a sharp knife and cisors without any pain as I couldn't feel my toes ever since I got MS. Based on the trouble I had with my neck going back to the mid 90's I probably started having deteriorating discs in my back before then with the spinal stenosis developing over time. The MS was diagnosed in 2006 and the diabetes started around 2014. Ever since I got MS I can walk in the snow barefoot even when it's -40 outside. I have peripheral neuropathy. This video has given me the information I need to find answers by doing my own research. The problem with doctors at this time is the tremendous workload they are under so I don't blame my doctor. Now I can tell my doctor that I want to see a neurosurgeon about the spinal stenosis. My neurologist is right saying my symptoms in regards to the peripheral neuropathy has nothing to do with my MS. He has been adamant saying my symptoms are related to my back and not the multiple sclerosis. I don'tknow if this doctor sees these messages but I am very thankful to him for giving me the information I need in order to request to see a neurologist and to request further investigation in regards to the abnormalities in both my legs. I know this comment is long and I hope this will help others who have viewed this video

Doctor, I will check if they find anything from my urine and blood tests done at the hospital. I have had some bad incontinence for the past six to seven weeks. Update: all good, it was caused by mental stress, or as they term what happened, psychosomatic illness. So I have to heal in my mind/ brain, and so I am healing and feeling much better. Mediation helps a lot, take life easier, moment by moment.

Thank you so much for explaining everything about this testing. My question is, I have a defibrillator and I’d like to know if there is a chance I may get shocked due to the electrical stimulation from the test.

Does a EMG show signs adhesive arachnoiditis specifics to help diagnose ? Thank you
@dr.kensharlin1548
@dr.kensharlin1548 Жыл бұрын
It would show changes at the nerve root level. It would not necessarily be able to distinguish other nerve root pathologies from arachnoiditis. This is where the history, physical exam, and MRI imaging would be critical to narrowing the diagnosis to arachnoiditis.

@@dr.kensharlin1548If findings indicate chronic bilateral lumbosacral radioculopathy with chronic motor unit potential remodeling in the distribution of the bilateral L3-4 without active/ ongoing deneration is this essentially permanent nerve damage or something that could be corrected/ improved? Would having a ablation prior change the findings or make a difference on results?
