Why MOSFET is operated in Saturation for Amplification

Please note: ids vs vgs is not a linear graph (for vgs >vth) but it is an exponential curve. The graph shown here is only to explain linearity.

To put it in a simple terms : We don't want Vgs and Vds to be controllable at the same time in our design, we want only Vgs to be controllable terminal, so we fixed Vds to Vgs-Vth so that now it cannot control the current, and only Vgs now can become controllable and then as Vg incerease current Id will increase.
