We are both fairly healthy and work out but with eating and drinking more than normal on our exploratory trips, we expected to gain weight, feel sluggish, maybe some occasional bloating or digestive issues but there was absolutely nothing. @@dionnejohnson9393 It's easy. Your parents should have registered your birth. Just go to any office of the Tribunal Electoral and ask for your Certificate of Birth. With that document you can ask for your ID card or Cédula and with the cédula you can get your Drivers License and also your Panamanian Passport. If you were born in Panama you are already a Panamanian Citizen, Even the people that were born in the Canal Zone, Panama consider them Citizens. For example the late Senator John McCain who was born in a naval base in the Canal Zone.

I can tell you quite a bit about the Nueva Gorgona/Coronado area but we haven't been to Boquete yet. Are you more of a beach person or a mountain/nature person? Thanks for your suggestions. We'll definitely get to them but may need some time. I would expect for us to be able to do one on the visa process first since we're right in the middle of it.

@@ChosenFewExpats I'm a New Yorker so I can do a beach or mountains. I currently live in Denver Colorado, beautiful mountains but no beaches, but I have lived in Florida and North Carolina. I think that's why Coronado and Boquete both appeal to me. I understand that Panama has mirco climates, so maybe a few months living in the mountains then during rainy season living near the beach. I'm willing to explore. Good luck with your visa process!

Most people tend to appeal to one over the other. 6 months in one area and then the other is a good plan. You can definitely have that kind of flexibility in Panama with 3 or 6 month rentals at good prices. I suspect after this shutdown, the market will favor the renters.

You're welcome Anthony and thanks again for watching. I asked on my reply to your other question if you were a U.S. citizen. You haven't replied yet, so I'll assume you are for both questions. In order to bring your pet, you need a certificate of good health from the USDA. The health check must be performed by a USDA sanctioned physician. There's a home quarantine form for Panama that needs to be filled out and send in so they will release your pet upon arrival. There are fees for both of these actions. Also, all documents must be apostilled through the Panamanian consulate or the U.S. State Dept.

Your videos are very interesting, even to someone like me who's in my 60s! But can you shed some light on the subject of struggling with the heat and humidity? Does it require spending too much time indoors? The summer must be horrible.... What about other Panamanian cities with strong infrastructure with less humidity?? Thank you!

You would need to head to a mountain town like Boquete for decreased heat and humidity. It's not miserable unless you're outside for hours on certain days. It is the tropics! That's part of the deal. Now there is dry season from December to March when the humidity is lower.

Yes, the humidity is definitely worse than New York in July or August. Even in absence of rain, the humidity will often be above 70% during rainy season. However, it isn't unbearable because there's usually a nice breeze. As long as you're covered from the sun, it's not bad. We eat outside often but are covered from the sun.

Again, this is all a matter of personal preference. I haven't heard of people doing this but many Canadian expats go home during the summer and fall there before returning to Panama. That has more to do with the weather there around those months, not here.

Hi Chivonne and thanks for watching. We do not have any school aged children so I've not researching the schools and education heavily. Most expats enroll their kids in private, international schools. You can google the government structure. That was kind of a vague question so I'm not sure how to answer. I'll just say they are generally conservative. For example, marriage is between a man and a woman is in their constitution and they implemented heavy quarantines and restrictions to limit the spread of covid. The sewage and drainage systems are good. There is a significant rainy season as you saw in this video so Panama has the infrastructure in place to deal with that rain and the runoff from the mountains. Please check out VGIRL TV channel as she has a son and a video on schools. She also owns several shops with black hair care products so no worries there.

Hi Sandra. Panama reopened its airport on 10/12. Americans are currently still allowed in with a negative covid test within 48 hours of the flight or they offer the test at that Panama airport. It is my belief that eventually, no countries will let U.S. citizens in.

Good video, here’s my question, we hear about gringo pricing all the time here in the states. So how can a Panamanian afford the housing when they’re only making 800 to maybe $1600 a month. Many of those places in the city that I’ve looked up our $1200-$2500.

Hi Jerard. Thanks for watching and for your kind words. Did you see Why Move to Panama Part 1? We covered the housing cost quite a bit in that video. Most costs were focused on apartments or homes expats would want in terms of size, not native Panamanians. There are plenty of places they may rent for $400 or so in the city but they may just be really small. 1 or 2 BR with 500 or 600 square feet. If they have two people in the household working, they can make it easily since there are so many inexpensive food options. Many apartments are already furnished, water is often included and homes don't have furnaces that generate a high gas bill. The largest bill is electricity depending on how much AC you run. Hi Michael. Thanks for watching and for your support. We really haven't covered much so far aside from the city, Arrijan, Chorrera, Nueva Gorgona and Coronado areas which are all on the Pacific side. The beaches on the Pacific side have fine, black crystallized volcanic soil mixed in with the white sand. The beaches on the Caribbean side are more blue due to the shallow sea floor. The only major cities are Colon (which the government ignored for years but is now revitalizing) and Bocas del Toro which is a series of islands near the Costa Rican border. Transportation in Bocas is largely by boat.

Hi Kevin. Thanks for watching an commenting my brother. The three main mountain towns are Boquete, Altos de Maria and El Valle. Boquete is the largest and most spring like climate, but is about 6 hours away from Panama City. It's about 45 minutes from David which is Panama's 2nd largest city. Altos de Maria is a very nice, gated community. It's more like a town than a city. It doesn't have a large population, many restaurants or a big grocery store. You would need to drive to Coronado to shop or go to a large grocery store. It's about an 1hr 15 minutes from Panama City. El Valle is probably falls in the middle. It's smaller than Boquete but is still an actual town. The population is around 8-10k people. They have a grocery store but large shopping centers or retail stores. There are some restaurants. El Valle is just under a 2 hour drive from Panama City. Keep in mind that 1/3 of the population of the whole country lives in Panama City. The next few cities are not on the beach but are not in the mountains either... like David, Chitre, Las Tables, Penonome and Santiago. Colon is on the beach but is on the Caribbean side. My point is that aside from Boquete, there isn't a mountain town that has the population of a city that you mentioned... unless you'd consider El Valle's 8-10k people enough.

If you like the beach but close to the city, then Coronado is an option. David, the 2nd largest city, is blazing hot but is nearly an hour away from the beach. It's also about a 5 hour drive from Panama City. It all depends on your preference.

No, you don't ha very to spend much time in doors. Some will avoid being in directly sun between say 1pm and 3pm as that is the hottest part of the day. However, few avoid going outside. Panamanians LOVE to spend time outdoors. Boquete is in the mountains so it will be cooler and more comfortable. More of a spring like climate.

Hi Tim and thanks for watching my brother! A 2k budget is a little tight for the city. You can definitely make it on that outside of the city. Much depends on your expectations for housing. Are you looking for an oceanview condo at $1200 and up or are you willing to live in a decent 2 or 3 bedroom house in a Panamanian neighborhood away from most expats for $500-700 a month? Housing would be your biggest expense by far. Unless you run your A/C a lot, your utility bill will be fairly low. Your internet and cell phone bills should be very low. There are tons of inexpensive food options. A 2k budget leaves virtually no room for much entertainment and travel.

Unemployed Panamanians receive health care through hospitals run by the Ministry of Health. Most Panamanians in a better financial position and expats usually prefer the private hospitals due to lower wait times.

Hello and thanks for taking the time to watch our video! It's probably going to depend on the size of the home you want, location, price range and type (house or condo). Most larger, homes and beachfront condos in popular expat communities are probably owned by other expats (Americans, Canadians or maybe Europeans). Several realty companies there were also established by other American, Canadian or European expats years ago as they saw it as a good business opportunity with the growth they knew was coming. There are better rates/prices to be had if you can find a place you would want that is owned and rented out by a Panamanian. In this case you would likely need to have some Panamanian connections to those persons but these homes are less likely to be in popular expat areas. They are much less likely to be condos as the Panamanian culture is more slated towards owning a house, if possible. Whether it be through a local agency or person, an "American centered" company (which may or may not employ many locals), or word of mouth though other expats... there is no MLS (Multi Listing Service) in Panama like in the U.S. In the U.S., there is a one stop shop that all realtors use so the search process is much easier but no such thing exists in Panama. You would have to seek out housing through any of the ways I just mentioned. I hope this helps! Thanks for your question.

Can you run an Etsy shop from Panama? With hand made products?

Hi and thanks again for watching. Yes, you can. We run an Etsy shop. It will be more difficult with hand made products. You will need to make a lot of inventory before you leave and then leave it with a trusted person who can ship it for you when orders come in. When inventory runs low, you'll need to ship your trusted individual more of it from Panama. It will cost you about $200 to send a 25lb box so you may have to increase your prices a little bit. You can also employ a 3rd party fulfillment parter like ShipBob to ship the inventory for you. Listing on Amazon FBA is also an option where they would ship products for you. It will be way too expensive to ship individual orders from Panama.

Hello Christa and thanks so much for watching our video! Great questions. No, vaccinations are not required upon entry to Panama or as part of the permanent residency visa application process. Panama is on 110V / 60Hz and has the same electrical outlets as the U.S. Thanks for pointing that out. We'll mention it in a future related video. My apologies Christa. I somehow missed the question about malaria or yellow fever. Malaria and yellow fever risk is low throughout the year in most areas including the Canal Zone and Panama City. Risk is highest in sparsely populated provinces like Darien (rain forest), Guna Yala, Panam and San Blas. Panama does not have a lot of mosquitoes outside of these areas.

Hi and thanks for watching! Yes, that is mostly correct. The amount of the initial deposit will vary by bank as well as the ability to open the account but if you have the items stated in the video, you can definitely get it done. Not necessarily at "any" bank though.

Hi and thanks for watching. I don't have school aged children so I haven't heavily investigated the school system. My understanding is that with some exceptions... the public school system could use some improvement and many expats enroll their children in international schools.

As for healthcare, there are a large number of U.S. trained doctors. The healthcare system is very good and inexpensive tonthe point where many pay out of pocket. As for their ability to handle certain chronic illnesses and immunoligists, I supposed it depends on which illness. I'm sorry but that is also something I have not investigated in detail.

I don't believe a truck driver is on the restricted list but your salary here would be much lower than in the U.S. You can definitely work with a work permit but we are highly recommending for people to start some kind of online business if they don't have one already. I would like to know if $2500 is considered average as far as the Friendly Nation Visa 's legal fee is concerned. I am in touch with a lawyer and that is the number she came up with. I am kinda " lawyer shopping" these days before making a final decision. How is the shipping, mail situation there?

The best way to ship and receive packages would be through a 3rd party like Mailboxes, Etc. or similar where they give you a physical Miami address. The mail gets forwarded from there to Panama within a couple of days where you would have to go to the Mailboxes Etc. or other business to pick it up.
