My opinon, ever since Sonny Digital Producers been realizing they have a shelf life no matter how talented they are, in terms of being radio hitmakers, so they know now just from seeing the signs and how its gone for others that its time to transition in to some other A&R or behind the scenes role before your 15 minutes (or 30 or an hour) are up. Metro Boomin is pretty much an artist at this point, others have gone onto work for labels or do music for film, TV, video games, and other genres etc. Or help work on VSTs etc.

All these clout/trendy producers with no real artistic vision are the ones that fizzle out because they have nothing to offer once the trends inevitably shift to a new sound. Look at someone like Kenny Beats. He’s now co-producing rock records with the guys that made Radiohead’s best records IN ADDITION to still making trap beats and he’s gaining a lot more respect, notoriety, and staying power by his ability to expand. Meanwhile other one note producers that were popping off around the same time as him are nowhere to be seen nowadays.

He didn't disappear. Being a producer is a progressive and layered process. We make the beats, artist is buys the beat, song is drafted, goes through various changes, then is placed or cut. During that process, an artist feels towards to record can fluxuate, which is a producers nightmare. They can switch the beat out entirely, or bring multiple producers in to add, the original producer may not even recognize the record. Its about what's hot and trendy.
