I got some too because of exactly the same reason you mentioned (and I left a comment on one of your previous videos about this topic, if you remember - fellow NYC musician here, and KZbinr). I play flamenco guitar, so that is *extremely* loud, even at home while practicing, so I now wear the custom ear plugs with the 15 dB filters even at home while practicing. I think a combination of the loud flamenco guitar playing for 25 years coupled with attending loud dance events (and hereditary issues from my dad whose hearing got worse in his late 30s / early 40s) did it for me.

Yes you are right. Practicing a lot at home can also damage your hearing over time.

Thanks for posting this, Aaron. I’ve tried similar earpieces, although not custom fit. I am a vocalist 1st & guitarist 2nd (& bassist a distant 3rd 😂). I’ve tried earplugs like these, and what I’ve found is that when I am singing, due to bone and ustacion conduction, ALL I can hear is MY VOICE. I think they serve well for an instrumentalist.

Yea the voice is amplified when you block your ears. This can be good or bad. It happens less so with these custom earplugs than regular off-the-shelf ones.

I had a real scare years ago and got custom plugs, but...I never felt like they made the impressions deep enough, and as a singer/sax player, they were always working their way out with jaw movement. I used them until the pull tab on one broke. I have an audiologist friend, on the opposite coast, who tells me your ears change so they need to be redone about every four years or so. I went to ready fit, then a couple years ago I got wireless in ears. But, and its a big but, unless the rest of the band uses them, and they turn down the stage volume, you wind up turning them up far too loud in order to hear yourself and do even more damage. So, as I try to ignore the buzzing, I am going to try going back to ear plugs, ready fit for now, and I always keep them on my key chain and they don't seem to work their way out like the customs did. but... if I can sing and play with them, I will probably get molds made again. whew, sorry for the book. ;)

What's the material of your customs? Acrylic, silicone?
@aaronshortmusic6 ай бұрын
I’m not sure but I think silicone.

Are they somewhat bendy? Probably silicone if so. How are they for singing/occlusion effect? Thanks!

@@alec9729 Yes they are. I don’t sing with them. I use them for concerts and loud environments. I use IEM’s for singing now.

Why do you use headphones Aaron when you do the vids?
@aaronshortmusic Жыл бұрын
Because I can’t find the headset mic without them yet. I am looking for one but it also lets me monitor the audio while I record.

What brand custom ear plugs are they for reference? I have eargasm plugs for concerts, but would like to purchase custom plugs for practice/concerts.

These are ‘Microsonic’. You can see their logo on the case in the video - microsonic-inc.com
