This was such a bad time...
I seriously did not expect this to happen, I just booted up the mod and got scared a bunch of times in a row xD
Expansion Mod is "Nyctophobia" by "Nankh", "[VORUMA]" and "BensoneWhite" (Check the mod files for a full credit list)!

Fitting name for this scary mod, this and pitch black are the only 2 mods that can really scare the heck out of me at times... (Unless you also count the leviathans and the abyss from Old New Horizons, those always get me going too)

Nyctophobia just means fear of the dark, plain and simple. Whether you're alone or not is irrelevant. But I think it is worse for most people if they're alone/without a friend. And what form it precisely takes can vary per person. Sometimes it's because they're afraid of what scary things may be in the dark, and sometimes it's more just fear of the darkness itself and the resulting inability to see. And near dark can be worse for some people than pitch blackness, and some people are only afraid of pitch blackness. For me, it's usually worst when I can see a little bit but not very well, because then things take different forms than what they actually look like, and can morph into some pretty scary things. My cat (yes, cat) also has nyctophobia, and gets really jumpy in the darkness (he's okay enough when inside, where he knows its safe), and will only readily walk outside if we hold a flashlight for him.

I really expected some real jumpscares but then I remember that "Rainworld effect" that you are so focussed in your gameplay and then suddenly you get into a room with and a very unexpected creature gives you a little scare. It happened to me quite a few times. But add that a very loud noise of spawning (In this case that silly music) and I thing that coul count as an jumpscare. Nice video though!

Nyctophobia just got a major update, nice to see you covering it! I think of it more as a meme update cause of boykisser being the first thing we see when we start (at least the first part anyway, the later jump scares are way more scary)

To be fair, the entire region has been changed :P And I have yet to see what the other 2 slugcats have to show haha! I hope the devs have some way to turn off boykisser though, otherwise it will be a huge pain exploring with it on!

I know that it seems that boykisser is not scary, but the feeling is not the same as when you only see it or when you are experiencing it, anyway there will be an option to deactivate it, but more nexbots will also be added, and worse, this alone It was proof of how deadly it can be, thanks for trying our mod!

I mean, if someone doesn't want to see the boykissers, they can definitely use the Keep that away from me mod! It works for modded creatures and items, since i disabled the night terror centipede from pitch black mod using Keep that away from me

The boykissers and the Five Pebbles dialogue are most likely placeholders, meaning that this will get much... much worse. I have a proposition for you, however. If you happen to take any mod recommendations, I do have a particular mod in mind that additionally relates to horror, and that mod was something I had just recently found out about as well. Now, I have gone through lots of horror, so my judgement on its scale of disturbance is blurry at best... but if you are still interested in horror Rain World, I would not mind lending my knowledge over. That is, of course, if you haven't played the mod already. Due to how hidden it is, I highly doubt, but one can't be too careful... and if you are willing, in the first place. If not, understandable. It is best for you to be careful as well.

@@lolight2 No worries, it's alright to take your time if you need to- and I do wish you good luck on that backlog, hopefully it's not too daunting. The mod is called Personalizer, nothing more, nothing less. It contains blue fruit updates, and something specific alongside it that I will not spoil... all that I will say about it is that I recommend to play this mod in regions with wide, open spaces.

Nextbots (That is technically a specific technology but whatever) are nothing new, but an _actually high-effort_ mod that presents itself as un-ironic horror just to pull the rug on you is a whole new genre of shitposting. This is what I'll imagine Japanese horror games to be like from now on.

I dont really like the use of nexbots for jumpscares in serious mods. Unless this is somehow a joke mod, the "boykisser jumpscares" do not fit in at all with the general theme nor are they really all that scary. The best kind of scary in rain world mods is the kind that is sprinkled far and few between, with just enough warning to barely escape every time. Something like the rain, or a miros vulture in a flat no ceiling room. Not... boykisser spawning everywhere with goofy music playing and turning into "scary face" when its near. I hope "boykisser jumpscare" is just a placeholder for something better.

This was probably added around April fool's as a troll so I am pretty sure they don't intend to keep it enabled by default, it will also have an option to toggle it from what the dev says. With the exception of that, I actually think this mod is pretty good, yeah the difficulty is a bit overdone and slightly edgy but I think there is a lot of work and soul put into it. (look at the amazing art, it has so much dedication)
